Captains. Lets have some fun with upgrades.

Is there an upgrade you always wanted? Propose it!
Is there an upgrade you do not like but want to use - Propose how to change it.

Best proposals will be added to the game - Picked or changed upgrades will receive the name of the proposing clan

Rules are simple

  • Must be crafteable
  • Must use trade goods or looted resources
  • Must not be too crazy.

Format

  • Stats - no more than 4 stats affected (high positive stats must have high negative stats)
  • Bluepring - no more than 5 components
  • Proposing clan

(extra points for integrating fishing into upgrade crafting)

You are brilliant, Sir!

Another use for fishing is genious. I remembered that I read in a magazine about other uses of the fish in the industry.

Whaler refit

Continuation of Conte d.catellanis Ahab idea.

Refit that turns your LGV or indiaman to a whaler.

Fairly easy to capture whales, increasing chance the further you are from land, through space limits amount, gives alot of provisions and whale oil. Whale oil can be converted to luxurary trade resourses in a workshop, like soap, candles and cosmetics. Sells high in ports that are low in trade income, they dont get alot of visitors so they pay more for basic luxary. Like candles and soap.

Might aswell put in some dubloons to be gained somewhere there to make it another option, like delivery mission.

Stuff to craft it,

weird Wood types noone ever uses.

Iron

Coal

Nothing special really.

This permanent mod for small ships is inspired by Leonardo DaVinci’s Ships Cannon With Shield. The idea here is extra shielding is built that helps protect a ships bow and stern chaser guns as well as helping protect crew. The shielding is lowered when not in use (open water) and its design in this position helps stabilize the ship but has the expense of lowering speed. The angle of the shielding helps to deflect or bounce shots.

DaVinci was thinking small ships; so should we: Permanent Mod for only 5th rates and smaller:

DaVinci Cannon Shielding

Clan: [SNACH]

Can these pluses be applied to just shots on the  bow and stern as this was DaVinci’s original concept?

Crew Protection: +5% (is this splinter resistance?) The shield protects crew

Cannon Protection: +5% The shield protects cannons from being destroyed or dismounted

Increased bounce: +2% (from increased bow and stern thickness?) The angle of the shield deflects shots

Open water characteristics as the shields would be down when not in combat:

Ship Speed: -3%

Crafting Recipe:
2 x Historical Artifact (it is a DaVinci design after all)

100 Oak Logs

50 Iron

25 Coal

I don’t have a great handle how the various numbers work in this game so hopefully you get the meaning and would adjust as necessary. I’m thinking of a mod that would be useful for a small-ish ship in PVP but not OP.

If you wanted to get really wild, you could make an Elite Version of this which would require much more coding I assume. DaVinci thought this would hide the armament of a ship from the enemy, perhaps until it was too late. What if mounting an Elite version allowed a much more powerful cannon to be placed in the bow or stern spot? For example, instead of 6 pounders, you could place 24 pounders. In which case, I would require at least 5000 doubloons more to the recipe.

DaVinci’s Cannon Shield

PvE specific upgrades.

Purpose - Flying another nations flag

Unnamed book.

National trade good.

National upgrade material.

This upgrade could be placed into an upgrade slot allowing the player to join into another nations port battle as either a defender or an attacker depending on that nations task at the time. It would probably work best as a Knowledge Book as opposed to an actual Upgrade.

As the PvE server is made up of a lot of individual players who don't wish to be involved with a clan and some nations don't have enough members or large enough clans to take or hold a port this would give the PvE server more flexibility overall. This would help both clans and the individual players to take/hold ports also fleet up and make larger groups under one flag. (I'd actually prefer this as just something everyone could do on PvE rather than burn an upgrade slot or even a knowledge slot).

And/Or

Purpose - Clan affiliation with foreign nations clan or clans.

Unnamed book.

National trade goods from both nations.

National Upgrade materials from both nations.

Fixed amount of Dubloons/Reals/Tools/Stone to port owners to help with infrastructure and expences.

This upgrade would allow a player to use a foreign ports ship building facilities and get the Port Bonus' as either a clan or individual player.

If either cant be implemented as upgrades or knowledge books then I'd probably even buy it as a bloody DLC for PvE as the PvE server needs this added flexibility on the server!

Before all the whiners jump in about PvE  please remember that the PvE players are part of this community as well and some players play on both PvP and PvE.

By the 1650s, the line of battle had developed as a tactic that could take advantage of the broadside armament. This method became the heart of naval warfare during the Age of Sail, with navies adapting their strategies and tactics in order to get the most broadside-on fire.[17] Cannon were mounted on multiple decks to maximise broadside effectiveness. Numbers and calibre differed somewhat with preferred tactics. France and Spain attempted to immobilize ships by destroying rigging with long-range, accurate fire from their swifter and more maneuverable ships, while England and the Dutch Republic favoured rapid fire at close range to shatter a ship's hull and disable its crew.

Discipline and Punishment
Another wholly new class of permanent modules – discipline is the thing that transforms bunch of rabble into effective fighting machine, where everyone are acting as a part of it, not thinking what they are doing, just executing orders. And if they are not, then they’ll get severely punished with the lash or some other thing and they fear it more than punishment from the enemy.

General Features:

  • Heavy to moderate reduction of Shock length – disciplined crew are less prone to losses and will do their duty amidst death and destruction
  • Small bonus to speed up such actions as crew transfer (and bracing), reloading, sail setting and work with rigging and survival – crewmen fear to make mistake or fulfill order not in time and receive punishment for it. That forces them to do everything a bit faster and more effective
  • Very heavy malus to Morale – you can’t inspire men you are flogging everyday

Specific stats are speculative and can be changed during testing but according to those main principles.

Flogging Captain men fears him more than the enemy as he is flogging seamen everyday, though not as ill-fated Hugh Pigot of “Hermione”

Craftable permanent elite module, made in Academy:

  • 1 x Book Articles of War
  • 5 x Naval Veteran (new resource dropping in Spanish, British and French capital ports, or the ports that are historically known as large naval bases)

  • 200 x Hemp (for ropes and lashes)

  • 500 doubloons (or even 1000)
  • 50 labour hours

Effects:

  • Gunnery/Rigging Shock time – -30%
  • Crew Shock time – -70%
  • Bracing time/reload – -15%
  • Reloading time – -2,5%

  • Crew transfer – 3

  • Sail rising speed – +6%

  • Yard turning speed – +4%

  • Time to do survival tasks (fires of leaks) – -5%

  • Morale – -40 (or even -50, if other stats are too OP)

Ship's Provost/Ship's Corporal – person, who is in charge of everyday maintaining discipline and inflicting punishments aboard ships

Craftable permanent module, made in Academy:

  • 5 x Naval Veteran (new resource dropping in Spanish, British and French capital ports, or the ports that are historically known as large naval bases)

  • 200 x Hemp (for ropes and lashes)

  • 200 doubloons (or even 500)
  • 30 labour hours

Effects:

  • Gunnery/Rigging Shock time – -20%
  • Crew Shock time – -45%
  • Bracing time/reload – -10%
  • Reloading time – -2%

  • Crew transfer – 2

  • Sail rising speed – +4%

  • Yard turning speed – +2%

  • Time to do survival tasks (fires of leaks) – -3%

  • Morale – -30 (or even -40, if other stats are too OP)

Cat o'Nine Tails –leather lash or whip widely used for corporal punishments in the Navy. It has his end slitted in a few thin tails, that are then plaited and knotted, so that small knots will lacerate the skin just as the cat does, hence the name.

Craftable permanent module, made in Workshop:

  • 5 x Bull Shark (shark skin and teeths were sometimes used to make the cat)

  • 3 x Buffalo Hides

  • 50 x Hemp
  • 50 doubloons
  • 5 labour hours

Effects:

  • Gunnery/Rigging Shock time – -15%
  • Crew Shock time – -30%
  • Bracing time/reload – -5%
  • Reloading time – -1,5%

  • Crew transfer – 1

  • Sail rising speed – +3%

  • Yard turning speed – +1%

  • Time to do survival tasks (fires of leaks) – -2%

  • Morale – -20 (or even -30, if other stats are too OP)

Boatswain's Cane – a stick used but boatswain and other warrant and petty officers to speed up their subordinates’ actions, to get them their posts and to clear their minds of some stupid ideas.

Module obtained from chests or looted from NPC-ships

Effects:

  • Gunnery/Rigging Shock time – -10%
  • Crew Shock time – -20%
  • Reloading time – -1%

  • Bracing time/reload – -7%
  • Crew transfer – 2

  • Time to do survival tasks (fires of leaks) – -2%

  • Morale – -15 (or even -20, if other stats are too OP)

Book Articles of War – set of regulations for governing the conduct of a country's naval forces, usually listing both some rules for combat behavior and punishments for various crimes and misconduct, except those that shall be punished according to the Laws and Customs in such Cases used at Sea.

Effects:

  • Gunnery/Rigging Shock time – -5%
  • Crew Shock time – -15%

Press Gang -

Yes it’s back with a vengeance a permanent upgrade to break the hearts of all those landlubbers lazily sailing around with determined defender.

Allows boarding with less crew for the saltiest of surprises...

A few  ways you can go with this either only to be used for pirate nation to give something different to those dastardly rats, only for pirate frigates, or you can use it across the board for everyone and every ship.

Requirments

5 x Nassau boarders

5 x Grog rations

10 x Ladders (god knows I’m sick of destroying them).

500 Salt.

P.s I miss my press gang.

I see another use for press gang, forcing surviving members of enemy crew to serve on your ship

Letter of Marque.   Bribe the local Governor to issue a Letter of Marque so that you can go out Privateering.  The Letter of Marque is good for one calendar month.

Cost - 10K Doubloons

Advantage - All 5th rate and above PVP kills give 1 Combat Mark. 6th rate and below gives 0.5 CM.

Disadvantage - Can only be done in 5th rate or below.  Zero real or Doubloon reward from combats (Bribes to Governor).  Doubloons in Hold still exist and credit for other missions still in effect.

Range: same as normal logbook

where we can see all the trading traffic:  but only from trading vessels with trade goods on board  (including warships* with trading* onboard) provided by your admiralty.

Very good idea, but the problem is that ships are moving objects while battles are not.

Alan Lewrie's Salty Armour

Once in Dewey Lambdin's Alan Lewrie novels (I think it was "the gun ketch") the sides of a merchant vessel were armoured (from the inside) with bags filled with salt.

Ingredients:

- 500 Salt

- 200 Hemp (for the bags)

Effects:

- Side Armour thickness +2

- Heel +3% (due to weight placed on higher decks)

- Maximum crew -20% (due to less space on decks)

- reload time -3% (due to less space for doing the job)

- Splinter resistance +15%
