Gambling Den

made by Academy

Effects:

You provide a gambling casino on board of your ship which entertains passengers (from eco missions) so delightfully they voluntarily extend their maximum stay on board for the fun of it. Passenger delivery countdown is doubled: six days instead of three

Blueprint needs:

actually only playing cards and dice needed, but devs can add 5x specimen of really rare fish as you need to cook splendid meals for your guests on board as well, plus an assortment of alcohol we have in the game, tequila, gin, whiskey, bordeaux wine, danish beer, for a deluxe accomodation.

Nice if this upgrade also brings back the money betting game we once had while sailing, and you can use it to squeeze money out of your passengers...

Clan:

MDRA (Framce)

It should increase the reward of the mission by 20%, but reduce the discipline aboard, so morale should be reduced.

No, there should not be an automatic gambling gain. It could as well happen your passenger is more lucky or is the better cheater and he rips you off... I think introducing the onboard gambling game by this hypothetic upgrade serves the purpose better, as it means you may lose or win money alike...

Premium crow's nest spotter / Excellent crow's nest spotter / Genius crow's nest spotter

made by Academy

Effects:

Intelligence is everything before you engage. Also on sea. You send up as crow's nest spotter a member of your crew with best identifying skills and sharp eyes. Regular spotters will only tell you what type of ship in what direction and how many in fleet. The premium/excellent/genius spotters give you far more information than that. They have the experience and insight to tell ships apart in their specifications due to the most insignificant details only they can make out.

Premium crow's nest spotter:  Provides you with information on max two (random) upgrades in use on the target ship (beyond the regular information everyone gets)

Excellent crow's nest spotter: Provides you with information on all upgrades and 2 random ship knowledge books in use on the target ship

Genius crow's nest spotter: Provides you with information on wood composition, all upgrades and up to 3 (random in number and choice) ship knowledge books in use on the target ship

Blueprint needs:

Premium:

- Book "Table of Parts of Ships of War"

- 400 doubloons

Excellent:

- Books "Table of Parts of Ships of War" + "Service Historique de la Marine"

- 700 doubloons

Genius:

- Books "Table of Parts of Ships of War", "Service Historique de la Marine" + "Forces navales de tous les pays, leurs particularités et caractéristiques" (new book)

- 1000 doubloons

Marooned (not an upgrade but..could make it a upgrade, to get the ability to find these, swaps the shipwreck bottles to marooned bottles)

Sealed bottles can now also contain the location of a marooned sailor/soldier/smuggler/merchant/Cook or any other title. When saved the person acts as a permanent stat upgrade for that ship.

For instance a Cook could give a permanent moral boost. The sailor gives a 0,05% to Speed and turn. Soldier 0,05% better reload. Smuggler increased hull space.

Soo the idea is the marooned will act as a legendary upgrade which you will need to risk your best ship to benefit from it the most.

Like that Gold l'ocean would need to go out to a strip of land perhaps deep into enemy water to get a 5% dpm upgrade.

Or a Gold endy getting a sailor/soldier/artisan carpenter after a few weeks, to really get a legendary status of that ship.

To make sealed bottles more valuable

If upgrade,  hemp to make a net. Need to be cheap.

Heated Shot

requires a workshop and a forge

can be fired with both carronades and cannons, but limited to one broadside each(like extra shot)

  1. fire probability 0.05 per shot hitting the target ship
  2. firing range for Heated Shot -50% (because of reduced powder)
  3. penetration for heated shot -5% (because of reduced powder)
  4. loading the shot needs 3x the normal reload time and cannot be preloaded using the prepared perk

needs:

  1. 100 coal
  2. 200 stone blocks
  3. 10 Swedish iron
  4. 25 tools

fire watch

requires academy and workshop

  1. fire probability decreased by 10%
  2. fire fighting increased by 95%
  3. crew percentage 5% (like marines)
  4. water pump bailing +20% (because of additional pumps)
  5. water pump hit points + 70%
  6. no longer requires crew in survival to extinguish fire(handled by fire watch, but you are unable to purposely go into fire shock)

needs:

  1. 1x additional break pump
  2. 1x coles bentick pump
  3. 50x copper ingot
  4. 25x tools

Your heated shot must be fired within 30s after loading, else it will ignite the powder itself.

I would see heated shot as an upgrade on forts (for a horrible price, of course). Too dangerous to have those on ships.

Fireprobability on own ship 25%, per shot, or something like that.

I see a lot of good suggestions and some are way too crazy. I generally don't like overpowered things, and especially ship knowledge books (collections) cause you don't lose them. The most expensive and good stuff the best players will get and the casual player will only suffer more.

I think it's important every upgrade, ship knowledge book and perk has it's value and it's not redundant. The same for woods, Teak and especially combined with White Oak (T/WO) is way too popular.

I think all the bow figures need a (slight) buff, apart from the Phoenix.

Elephant bow figure - Reduce penalty of speed - 2.5% » - 1.5%.

Gazelle bow figure - Increase speed + 1% » + 1.25%.

Katherine bow figure - Increase turn rate 2.5% » 3.5%.

Lion bow figure - Reduce cannon reload time - 2.8% » - 3.5%.

Rattlesnake bow figure - Increase cannon ball penetration + 2% » + 2.5%.

Thor bow figure - The magic hammer. I think repair time reduction is good, but heavily increase the stats: - 2% » - 10%

Whale bow figure - Increase water pump bailing + 5% » + 10%.

Introduce seven (7) new bow figures, all available in Admiralty for 300 doubloons:

1. Golden bow figure - Increase doubloon reward when looting a ship (NPC and player) by 20%.

2. Prestige bow figure - Increase XP reward for ship (knowledge) and rank at the end of a battle (NPC and player) by 20%.

3. Monk's bow figure - Increase open world speed by 5%.

4. Birds bow figure - Increase accuracy (horizontal and vertical) of bow chasers (cannons) by 30%.

5. Hippo bow figure - Increase bow armor hp by 30%.

6. Wolf bow figure - A more allround alternative of the Hippo bow figure. Increase bow armor hp by 10%, bow armor thickness by 10% and adding 5% splinter (crew) resistance.

7. Ram bow figure - Deals damage to armor hp and if no armor hp left: hull hp when ramming a ship (friendly and enemy) and also makes some leaks. Damage (in hp) and amount of leaks is based on: your ship class (would be cooler if it was based on true weight), your ship's speed and the enemy's ship class (or weight). A first rate sailing at 3/4 knots should be able to crack a 7th rate instantly. Because bow armor plating is removed for the ram and the ram is heavy, the following penalties:

  • Penalty of speed - 3%
  • Penalty of turn rate - 5%
  • Penalty of acceleration - 20%
  • Penalty of deceleration - 20%
  • Penalty of bow armor hp - 20 to - 50% (depends on how many damage it inflicts)

Maybe some battery refits for 5th rate and higher only?

British battery refit: Cannon caliber on the second lowest gundeck +1, Cannon crew -3%, speed -3%, heel +5%

French battery refit: Damage to Sails and Masts +15%, penetration +3%, canon traverse up +3%

Spanish battery refit: Splinter Damage +10%, Preparation +5,  muskets +10%, Boarding Cannons +3%

Makes sense tho didn’t they nerf leeway to almost nothing after testing it. I’d love to see it back.

Not an upgrade but a craftable item:

Scavengers team:

-Can be used to detach a permanent upgrade and send it in hold.

-Require Tools + oak + fir for the repairs + Provision (+maybe rum) for the workers. (+eventually a rng component so permanent remain so in general.)

(can be two different items, one for salvaging academy upgrades, one for workshop upgrades.)

Salted Frame

Wooden ships were often salted. The salt would be poured between the frames of a wooden ship and the wood would be tamped down. If water got between the wood the salt would turn it to brine which actually helped prevent leaks, rot and preserve the frame.

Stats:

  • -20% leaks
  • 3% hull hitpoints
  • -0.5% speed

Blueprint/Crafting:

100 salt, and whatever Iron Knees costs. Would be in the same upgrade category as Iron Knees.

Boat Crews:

Sailing ships in the age of sail often carried small boats that could be used for fishing, towing the ship, cutting out enemy vessels from anchorages, going ashore, and transferring crew between ships. Thus I give you the Boat Crews perk:

Stats:

  • +50% looting range
  • +10% fishing
  • +2% upwind speed (OW only)
  • (Optional) - Allows kedging off a lee shore in battle (obviously would take crew away from the ship).

Blueprint

  • 10x Oak
  • 20x Fir
  • 10x Provisions
  • 1x Tools
  • 5x Labour Hours

SNACH

Would be a good use of salt, but should make it more salt IMO.

Why though does it slow you down? Makes no sense.

Instead how about a -6 on morale, because the ship is salty.

Salted ships are a little bit heavier than unsalted ships. (Salt is kind of heavy when used in large quantities)

The recipe is ultimately up to the devs to settle on, my suggested recipe is in the ballpark of where I think it should be.

Upgrades should always have a relevant tradeoff. -6 morale is hardly a tradeoff.

Considering Denmark-Norway didn't compete in any wars from 1720-1800, and norwegian wood were required in the shipbuilding of fx. GB, France and VP, I'd like to suggest a danish-norwegian upgrade - "Danish flush" basically an upgrade that improves speed, turnrate and durability of a ship due to the highquality danish-norwegian woods that was sought after by all seafaring nations..

I would like to suggest, for the sake of balance, that its required ressource (danish-norwegian carpenters) drops in CS/FS and available for combat medals through the admiralty.

what about:              Patent for a single player

patent to build (on a ship permit to build  )[ patent on Dutch indiaman "rotterdam"    permit for example ]

a lifetime [ National ] Admiralty particular ship building permit....

a ship patent for a particular ship permit.

not transferable and lost if you make  nation shift

clan:  GWC

costs 75.000 doubloons

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_West_India_Company

.......The intended purpose of the charter was to eliminate competition, particularly Spanish or Portuguese, between the various trading posts established by the merchants......

{ Geoctroyeerde Westindische Compagnie} Patented west-india company GWC

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

a fee 10 % goes to GWC when purchased in store of the admiralty  ...just kidding :) (but.. could be a mechanic for other nations with other ships 0.0 )
