Pffffft!  How do you think that the British nobility kept drinking brandy during every war with France....Can't be expected to drink gin, y'know!

Did they pay normal price?

blocking trade between enemy nations in ports will cause huge outrage but might fix the problem.

What about simply giving clans more power over their ports so they can better control the market within them? But here it would be even more important to have better resource distribution across the map...

Fair point Wraith, but I think, correct if i'm wrong in my reasoning devs, then they do it through the Shop/Trade Missions, hence giving tax to the port, hence giving cash to the owner clan, hence making economy roll and making a profit while they do it.

Why? If you're just trying to minimize the influence that alts have people would just "trade" ships between nations in a battle instance to avoid it. You're doing nothing other than inconveniencing players that are legitimately trying to make some money through smuggling, etc.

@Sovereign is on the right track with giving much finer grained control to clans to port control. Options should be "Open to All," "Open to Nation," "Open to Friendly Clans (inclunding friendly-marked foreign clans)", "Closed to All Except Clan"

Basicly have the default setting is Open to Nation.  If you open the port to all than all nations can set contract.  Than if  you pay a bit more you can close to friendly clans (this could be same list as PB).  and last is Is Closed to all except clan.  If you piss off your nations or other clans remember they are the ones that you might need to help you in the future.  Nations can self police by not showing up to help a clan that is in trouble if they are dicks and lock out other clans from contracts.  This would allow clans to shut a port down and gather resources for themselves for a short while too.  Thus making more folks want to attack and take the port from them if they keep all the resources to themselves and not share it.

Pirates should be the hardcore faction, not the Poles, Russians and Prussians. We know why they were brought into the game but they should be removed. It's just silly, damned silly.

Yah last time I checked this game was based in the 1700-1800's in the Caribbean not in the North or Baltic Sea.  If the those three factions want a game than they should ask the devs to make a Baltic Sea version for them.....lets keep this game to the some what Historical promise we have and keep it to actual nations that where active in this area during that time period.  As not to screw those that want to play those nations we could always split the pirates into two factions.....Privateers and Pirates.  The privateers work for nations and well pirate will just be that.  Privateers get to fly the flags of none core nations (Three mention above and I would add Swedes and Danes.)  Making the core nations The Spain, French, GB (merge US into GB with players with Flag DLC can pick US or GB flags to fly) and Dutch.

Again though, trading ships/goods via battle instance circumvents this. Why bother putting up barriers that only harms players without alts while doing nothing to discourage the use of alts in the first place?

The more discomfort the alts have the better on my book. Just my opinion.

And NO. It does NOT harm players without Alts. Not...a...single... bit.

They will be able to finally compete directly in the market through missions or whatever the devs conjure.

I guess credit to you that you don't think like a player trying to game the system.

Given i start fresh account at every major patch, i beg to differ. And I'm finally Trading in resources and Crafting post patch 27 so no, i don't have a slightest clue of how trade and craft works, but i'm learning.

It will NOT affect players without alts, like me. NOT a single bit. Actually it will help them overcome a lot of obstacles posed by alt monopoly of markets plus having all the resources and trade goods pass through the "black market" like now will end. Everything on store and on auction. Tax influx will be bigger, clans will gain, and dedicated Traders will have their dynamic missions to fulfil the needs of others like them or crafters or devs know what...

But hey, we all have our own opinion, and this is mine. Respect.

Can we get a turn based RVR?

I mean we vote as a nation to attack a port, just like we voted for allies. Then the next day the pb is set, right on their timer, because this way maybe less salt. If the defenders win trow in some chests for the defenders same the other way. Now to make this right think about the screeners, by this i mean make all the fights between the two nations at pb window, allover the map as part of the war and reward accordingly.

My ideea on this matter at this moment!

The only thing such a mechanism does is sell more copies of the game as alts, which I guess is probably why the dev's would do such a thing in the first place.

I need to smack you over the head until the stupid falls out.

Nah, I'm not going to pretend there is an adult conversation to be had about what I quoted in my previous post.

there will always be a loop hole or a way to get around such things like "friends" in one nations attacking "friend" in another nation to pass a trading ship full of cargo to another nation, since devs dont know who is buddy buddy with who there is no way to stop this type of action, in effect bypassing any possible block on cross nation trade.

multi accounters will always find a way to bypass blocks by bending the rules.

For the players that just enjoy a nice gaming session with their buddies, sailing to fulfil a contract, sailing to find some resources, sailing to deliver some badly needed luxury goods, it will not affect a thing.

All the discomfort toward meta-alting. That's all I wish for this Christmas. Think I was clear.

Empty seas suck and are boring gameplay.

At the very least there should be exploration like mechanics in play so you can actively 'do' things while sailing long distances.

Imagine being able to find random loot (like a better mechanic than fishing) and you can go to it to interact with it. Imagine finding lost treasures along the coasts and being able to grab it before others.

But meh, it won't happen.

@Teutonic I keep saying just replicate some stuff from Sid Meir's Pirates, and you will have a Huge PVE content, even Coop PvE content, even PVP content.

Nice Logbook, Random Pve missions to sink an NPC, or may be even a player, drops some letter, drops map piece etc. Send a player to sink a Ship, and easy target, epic chest drops being able to be unlocked at port only. A global message drops, rumors of Player X with epic chest in Mosquito Reqion, etc., manhunt starts. Famous NPC ships, Pirates, Privateers, Escorted Treasure fleets ( much better than dumb epic fleet missions, faster/stronger 1st rates, famous NPC captains with unique strengths, like boarding master, can board at high speed, gunner master etc.)

I still can not understand why it is not implemented into this beautiful game. Currently it is EMPTY SEA for me, I do not like killing that npc, predictable Bellona, Niagra, Tbrig, or even looking for that dumb NPC.

More life to sea and ships, more crew sounds, yes the fking shanties, let my crew "shout enemy sighted on the horizon", "ringing bells" etc.

and unrealistic and not historically accurate

well the game is realistic and accurate as it gets .....individual ship encounters that led to battle were rare .... and fleet engagements were even rarer ....so the game has it pretty much spot on

this is a game it is supposed to be a fun experience to play .....

Ive never seen a PVP game  that works so hard to stop PVP .... "we dont want extended timers on battles  "   "we dont want you to be able to tp ships around to where he action is "

the "theres too many first rates "  it should be hard to get one ,,, "they should be rare "   "its not realistic "

"you shouldnt be able  to just leave port and join a battle"    why ??????????    why do you want to  take the action out of Naval Action .... too much notice has been taken of those that think pvp is ganking noobs

none of the above happened 2 years ago and the game was more fun  we had more players more pvp ...

the fun has been slowly sucked out of the game in the name of realism and been historically acurate .... and players have  decised its not fun anymore... and decided to play somehthing else

all you need now is a touch of scurvy and the illusion your on a 18th century ship sailing around without seeing an enemy for months if not years will be complete

Sid Meiers Pirates was an awesome Single Player RPG and I agree, a lot of what was done in that game could be attributed into Naval Action. I just don't have high expectations at the moment and that frustrates me.

what discomfort toward meta-alting its a mechanic of the game and isnt against the rules, to change them so those that bought multiple copies cant use them the game would probably loose atleast half or more of its remaining players

blame the devs on the historical accuracy its their idea to keep the game in that state slowly pushing players away from what used to be a fun game, i wish they would remove quite a  few limitations they put on this game that used to make it more fun and worthwhile to sail out there, i miss the days of large 25v25 first rate battles those were epic times, now its about who has the most dlc ships in thier nation, its mostly 5ths u see, the game is about how fast u can end a battle now not how much u can enjoy a battle. the old trading missions were removed which took many players with it, the old port battle system makes no sense when taking ports got to control 3 circles it should be who can kill off the other side first like a real battle.

too many mechanics make no sense and too many changes make even less sense, every major change done was done in haste and even more was done without thinking how it will effect the dwindling playerbase

There's only one way to combat the use of alts, and that's to give a single player the power that multiple alts have.

Instead of locking down the number of buildings/outposts to a fixed number, make it expandable indefinitely at an increasing cost. I know it feels good to have people buy multiple copies of the game but alts are a plague and shouldn't be looked indifferently on.
