  1. With in my first hour I had completed a successful mission against a brig in my cutter... first mission, found it very difficult, and didn't know how to repair yet. Then I used the earnings from a few missions to purchase a Belle Poule, of which I was severely under crewing... played several 5th rate missions in it... and figured out that... oh I can repair my ship too! Yay, game on.... I made several other successful mission attempts, then decided it was time to go to the PVP server, I found out I had to start over, was a little bumbed about that. But I did it anyway and worked my way up the ranks on PVP server after that.
  2. PVE and casual play are perfectly possible on the PVP server as is... I know a few people that do it all the time, you just have to get good at PVP while your at it... that's all.
  3. I say no safe zones anywhere, all players reap the rewards of their actions, no more fool proof waters, only other players can help you, no more NPC reinforcements. Let the raiders raid says I. And all ports except capitol ports should be capturable... in my opinion.
  4. Yes having more nations is good because of variety. The smaller nations tend to attract mavericks and hoodlums, but in the end there seems to nearly always be some sort of organized play going on. Having the smaller nations allows players to find a nitch. And of course... it is pretty cool being able to sail under your own nations flag, or a historical relic flag.
  5. yes... this is a very good idea, but as Sir Texas Sir has stated... it would need to be separate somehow from the base game... as in only available after or during the tutorial missions.
  6. I have played for over 2 years now I think... but only have a little over 1600 hours in game... some people must have a lot of time on their hands or they just do this for a living anyway. If anything is to be given to players... let us all test something new.
  7. Yes all things had to be wiped... rebalancing and a new economy was implemented. They had all of us start from scratch to test the economy and the velocity at wich players progressed... all a part of testing and working out kinks. : ) Those that got the warnings were those that checked into the forums, they did give us plenty of time to find out as well. Fortunately you only had a 4th rate.
  8. I like the ship... looks like a USA or French design to me... similar some what to the Essex I think... but taller for some reason in the hull... perhaps mounted more guns? Also... the ship if added must have bow guns... without them it makes it really hard for the newer lone player to hunt with and this ship looks like a hunter to me. Looks good to me, I am always in for a little more variety.
  9. In a game that is far too dependent on certain upgrades, we should be able to reuse them... and yes the ship should be worth a whole lot more than the upgrade... far more material goes into a ship than the upgrades anyway.... unless you would consider time as material of course. I am in favor of such a scheme to allow the demounting of upgrades at the cost of dabloons.
  10. For me my most magic moments were... #1 As the Spanish nation was so small on the olde global server, we created allies with clans from various nations and watched the most powerful nations crumble to pieces when they decided to pick on little Spain. The undeclared war did not last long. #2 My first frigate mission on an under crewed Belle Poule. #3 The first time I successfully captured a fleet of 3 Indiamen single handed, was not easy and required the enemy to have under crewed ships. I was shocked by how huge the haul was...over 10,000,000! And I did it in a Surprise... I was crazy. #4 My first successful large trade run that brought me in a couple million in game credits. It took over 2 hours to complete the run, and was on the edge of my seat the entire way. #5 The satisfaction from being a solo player and realizing I just built a first rate ship of the line with goods I purchased, it took a few months but I did it. #6 Fighting players in other nations, later to find us fighting on the same side later... that was pretty cool, you know, the conversations go... remember a long time ago , when we were noobs fighting each other. #7 Helping other players learn the game before the excellent tutorial was implemented. #8 My first promotion in rank... yeah, that felt pretty good. That's all I can think of for now. Watch your six and take an escort.
  11. In my own opinion... All ships should have the 5 knowledge slots. Knowledge is knowledge after all. Many pirates used converted merchant ships as their combat ships, this did not limit their own knowledge of sailing and combat prowess. In a game so very upgrade heavy as this one I feel that allowing all ships the 5 possible knowledge slots would be a good idea. This may potentially cause some players to actually try to fight rather than run from combat as well. They wont say to themselves... ugh I only have three slots and their combat ship has five slots, they run instead of fight. I say lets let the traders equip all the boarding upgrades if they can... makes the game more spontaneous and difficult.... more interesting says I. Watch your six and always send a good escort with a lineship.
  12. Hey I like this guide... good to see you are still actively playing Iroquois. Good post, and remember its not a gank if you caught the prey with their pants down! Enjoy the hunt and sail safe my friend.
  13. Yes and its realistic, no GPS no f11, I would like a sextant though, its not like ship captains were blind.... we do need navigation in this game, the protractor does work well though, if you are exact with it anyway and as it sits I have to take notes to remember sometimes where I left off in order to be efficient at finding my way back if I sgn off for a few days. I use my watch and measure how far I have travelled to keep track on my approximate whereabouts. I am usually no very far off!
  14. People are just used to making a very inflated profit, if one crunches the numbers correctly, then one can find better ways of making reals. But hey, if you want RNG... more power to ya, some of us would like less lottery regarding upgrade slots.
  15. I agree, the best way for new players to make Reals in game is through combat or trading resources. And the massive lottery in shipbuilding? Un-needed, fun perhaps, but not very relevant.
  16. Remember, upgrade slots, should this be controlled by RNG, Ship qualities can still be different, we have many different wood types in game to tailor our ships. Maybe a random perk but upgrade slots seems a bit steep yes?
  17. I agree and our combat is far more unpredictable in PVP than anything else in game... I do understand what you are saying, I enjoy unpredictability as well in a game, but are we sure that the quality of our ships that are such an integral part of conquest and combat should be controlled by chance?
  18. How many of us would like to control the quality of our ship produced? I have enjoyed the RNG myself, however I fail to see the relevance of RNG in something that would limit my ability to equip crew with their weapons or upgrade my ship somehow through upgrade slots. RNG could be welcome in other areas of the game... but crafting a ship? Are ship wright skills so poor that we have no idea what we shall have upon crafting?
  19. The economy can work without RNG mate... most players sell their goods for far above value in this game unless they are selling o clan members.
  20. I believe you have missed my point sir. RNG should not, in my opinion, effect the number of upgrades that a player may fit to a warship... it just makes no sense to me, I enjoyed the RNG this way for a while , but I don't believe it is good for this game. Now RNG for a random perk, ok I suppose, but RNG in upgrade slots just seems a bit silly to me. Thanks for the feed back and your point of view. The gambling factor is fun though... I just don't really see the in game value for this mechanic in ship crafting.
  21. So please explain... do you think RNG in crafting is good for the game? Or do you just enjoy the gambling excitement of the RNG in crafting.
  22. Yes and I have experienced this also... its a very good feeling to finally craft a ship worth something, however this is where the problem lies... I feel like the game would be better if I could craft a ship knowing exactly what I would get, I know this is just a game, but I feel that if a ship wright knows how to build his ship the ship shall be built well, and the commander commanding said ship and equipping said ship should not be subjugated regarding how many upgrades he can fit because how the crafter crafted said ship, It just doesn't really make very much sense that's all. All ships should have 5 upgrade slots in my opinion.
  23. Shall we consider RNG in ship crafting like... Bonus thickness at no loss to speed. or extra speed, or rigging quality, just a basic random buff instead of random upgrade slots. Random upgrade slots, just seems silly.
