  1. Yes it is a double edged sword... combat goes two ways and is dangerous by nature... The Trader with a will to fight feature would bring some good content for players wanting to hunt them... maybe even have Indiaman NPCs that have escorts... this also would be cool and be a fun activity for smaller clans... well and maybe larger clans alike. Especially if they have a chance at carrying rare materials.
  2. Yes.... we must have it and try it then... in the name of science. Of course the players that just want to enjoy the beauty of the game will be opposed as they just want to sail and trade unmolested, understandable, but so did the traders historically, they got attacked from time to time though and the results many times were very bad for those that carried their cargo unprotected.
  3. Perhaps the cargo missions could actually be set up to transport a specific cargo to a port? Instead of just a place holder item in the hold... maybe it could be to move X amount of logs, or coal, or other resource and pay you for delivery? Don't keep the goods though as you will be branded a thief, and not be able to trade goods for missions between ports for a while...say 4 days or something. This would make moving goods profitable for any trader and would bring back what you want as well regarding the added flavor in trading missions... Then we can say... damn I hope I can deliver these Greenheart Logs instead of, damn I hope I can deliver this random cargo... I see your point.
  4. I think traders that fight back would be a good addition... not all... but to develop a few different NPC personalities for the traders... I have also heard some good ideas regarding making the NPCs react according to battle rating... if your battle rating is higher... they run... if lower they try to kill you. Also another idea I heard is as follows... to make the NPC traders react in flight when you kill their crew to 50% or below... or below the number of crew you command could be an option as well. This would make trader NPC killing more dynamic and engaging for trader hunters... instead of a quick farm... the trader would put up a fight... I should also mention that they have marines on board and would like to kill the pirate scum that is trying to take the East India Trade Companies stuff. Perhaps they would try to force boarding? Any way... just a few ideas from a guy that has played this game since almost day one... P.S. Aggressive NPCs are a good move in my opinion... as it will deter AFK game play... I cant count how many players I have killed only to have their ship sit their and die to stern raking... I think something should be done to limit the AFK sailing in the game... and maybe the answer is in aggressive NPCs. In my opinion if it makes the game more dynamic... then great... lets do it. After all... this is called Naval Action! I feel that having the risk of being attacked by NPCs while making trade runs is very interesting... The risk would probably only be closer to land though... as most NPCs are generally within the silhouette of land... And on the PVE server having this I think is a must, mostly because... no danger to making trade runs. This being said, I would recommend limiting aggressive NPCs on the PVP server... only because it is full of aggressive players. But hey, either way... I will continue to play... I am on nearly every day.
  5. Ha ha ha… your funny, and yes I am not particularly educated mate... I am not but a humble pirate... P.S. Thanks for noticing the miss-spellings. BTW... Are you an Engish Tetcher? LOL
  6. I know your point... and I considered it as historically accurate as well, however I see a demand for action when attacking traders... chaining us could be in order for them to escape... such mechanics should be applied to these traders... this will make trader hunting less of a farm and more of an action in my opinion. In short... it would bring more dynamics to a trader battle if the trader NPCs would try to chain to escape... instead of just shooting with ball ammo.... it all could be a part of the escape plan.
  7. Interesting... to base it off of BR... makes sense too. Thanks for the ideas.
  8. This is the sort of thought process I am trying to encourage... these are good ideas... and I think they would be good for both servers... Maybe if this topic gets enough attention the Naval Action team would consider introducing such things to this great game.
  9. Hey, I was just curious to see how many of us would like NPC traders to engage and try to fight us in battle... the La Gross Venture for instance just runs away instead of fighting if it has a crew advantage... my suggestion is as follows... Lets have the NPC traders be aggressive until we "break" the moral of the crew by killing off say... 50% of their crew... then the trader tucks tail and runs... But until then the trader will fight … not unlike a warship... and will vie for position to get good shots off at their attackers. After all their guns are there to shoot with... Assuredly, these traders would fight to defend their freight. Please post any ideas you all may have I am interested to see what our forum thoughts are regarding this. P.S. I do understand that something like this was probably talked about before release.. but would it be too much content to add this? Three cheers for the frigates and their gallant Captains!
  10. the war server does get pretty crazy... I know exactly what you talk about... so I play on both servers as I want to... I go back and forth all the time... after all we have new players coming to both servers all the time. I like to teach them mechanics and such. Its good fun for me anyway. Enjoy the game! Three cheers for the frigates and their gallant Captains!
  11. so you like zero combat.. or just organized combat? I see you are looking for more content in the open world that is not entirely combat related... reckage would be cool....don't get me wrong I like your idea... maybe even picking up a survivor off a piece of wreckage and returning him/her home?
  12. yes … yes... yes... we shall have more interesting dynamics in the open world... soon I hope... when the aggressive NPCs are introduced... if they will be able to catch you... they may attack you... at least I think this is how it will work... We will need to get good at escaping!! Sounds like fun for the Peace server anyway. I don't think it really belongs on the PVP server... but hey... its the devs game... what ever they implement... I am sure they will do so with good reason..
  13. Also should consider.. that you can choose to sell your rum at what ever price you want to... just post like 10,000 units for say... 50 reals a piece... you will sell it all very fast... then do it again... and again and again... until everyone gets mad. It will be kind of like a trade war, could be fun and annoying.
  14. awww c'mon mate... there is never enough rum to go around anyway... er whispers... are yah one of those abolitionists? Because some of us may be a bit sensitive about our boose.
  15. I had to add this one too... The one who speaks last usually gets the last word.-Unknown
  16. Knowledge without wisdom to guide it is an uncertain tempest.- Unknown
  17. how did the Victory and all the other little ships get in? was this a Capitol battle? I think there should be no BR limitations myself... this way... anyone can attack any class of ship... important so that everyone can attack everyone... if a player isn't prepared it should be their own fault... in my opinion.
  18. Isnt this only possible in Capitol waters now? I thought the BR system helps reduce this from happening.
  19. I have had this happen before as well... sometimes players are signing off and are waiting to sign off at sea... I sign off on the ocean all the time as I am almost always far away from my port of call... you may have just attacked at the most unoportune moment. If you go to sign off while on the ocean... you are given the option to wait 2 minutes to log off safely or just exit the game. If you wait to log off for the 2 minutes then your ship will disappear after the two minutes are up... If you decide to just log off... then it still takes a little time to get out of game... but someone near by can still attack you... they just have like two minutes to do their dirty work. Most good pirates in game know this and I believe many of the traders that have played the game for as long as I have know about this as well. Cheers mates! I hope this is some how helpful.
  20. Thank you... I will report any such forbidden activities as I notice them.
  21. I agree entirely here... should be a 4th rate in game.... at least in my opinion... after all, it is the British that complained about it being called a frigate in the 1800's anyway. Lets just face it... we do everything bigger in the USA. Its what we are used to... our frigates are bigger and the Line ships... though only a few were built... were monsters... made L'Ocean look a bit smaller. Good thing we never had to use them really... if we did, we would have been fighting a war the young USA did not want.
  22. Yeah... I agree here... I believe that the 32 pound carros are ok... but I think the Hercules shoudlnt have cannons larger than 9 pounds. But in the end... the ship is relaly only as good as her Captain. I have talked to players that disliked them for fragility and/or more difficult handling. The Le Hermoine is very well balanced yes? Lets make the DLC deep water ships only... except for Le Requin… just make her have smaller guns... then all she does is boarding... but then we are talking about a nerf... and nerfs are bad for business.
  23. Ok I watched you video... my vote... hang him from the highest yard arm as an example for the honorless.
  24. Clan mates and I use friendly fire for training... don't remove it. It must be there so that we can hone the next generation of players for PVP combat.... its a great way to get new players practice! But distasteful friendly fire is punishable by potential banning I think... it would have to go to the tribunal... and the game owners would need to decide what to do with you. If you are to submit something to the tribunal... then make sure to have screen shots and an in depth story regarding what happened … a simple accusation is not enough... otherwise the big time RVR players would get clans banned this way. Just make sure all your ducks are in a row before accusing anyone for distasteful friendly fire. Good luck out there!
  25. Boy that's for sure... if you want to avoid drama... just play as a solo pirate on a very fast small light ship... any nation will do, but hey... if your a rouge your a rouge … right? The drama is so real in the larger nations... clans vying for power...or influence, rouge clans that aren't exercising the interests for the rest of the nation... cooperation is sometimes at a high and the nation is doing well, other times they are all doing what ever they want and bring the clans to war with clans from another nation.... it goes on and on. That's ok though in my opinion... of course I think that clans and players not working for the interest of the nation should be turned rouge and be attackable by anyone. A simple system could be incorporated that votes for peace or war between specific clans... if a clan attacks clan members of a different nation or their own then they become labelled as rouge and are treated as pirates or felons... become attackable with no ramifications by other players then. These rouges would just be private Corsairs running around and doing what ever they want to... thye could even have their own rouge corsair flag set... sounds fun aye? This way the Clans that are more centered around RVR could do their RVR and the other guys could just be raiders and have fun fighting whomever they want to... when ever they want to... they would be the true pirates of the game savvy? This faction would not need to be able to take ports as they wouldn't be worried about that at all... they tend to only care about combat and stealing other players stuff anyway. However if the private nation could control a port and have their own rouge flag flying on said port... that would be awesome too. Go ahead and chew on that for a bit. Have fun!
