Eliminate Steam!

Recommended Posts

I understand Steam has become the main marketing strategy for NA, but Steam is just awful.  We've seen several outages and erratic behaviors over the past few weeks.  I have been trying to setup Steam on a couple of different computers as I plan on swapping out the old PC running NA with a nice new one - but I have been frustrated( and then some) with Steam - part of the issue is they don't like you logging in from different PC's and bombard you with authentication emails.  So I finally worked around that, now I am getting errors trying to launch NA under Steam on two different PC's.  I've never had this much frustration with other non-Steam games.

VERY frustrating.

BTW, I had similar issues previously with Steam and other games.

When I bought NA, I was in two minds whether to buy or not - and it was not the game that gave me pause to think - it was Steam.

I think there is a risk in continuing to stay tied to Steam in turning away potential buyers just because of the lousy Steam service.

I doubt you can put much pressure on them, but somehow/someway, they MUST improve their service.   Do you have any leverage with them to complain about their service quality?  Do they provide you any service level commitment / performance guarantees?  I spent 30+ years in IT, and for many of those years provided large customers (GM, US Navy, BBC and more) a service where we committed to meet their expectations - with punitive penalties when those service levels were not met.

I can't realy say I have had problems with Steam ever. The verification on new PC's takes 2 minutes tops and its for your own good. There's a nice amount of money invested there...

I hope i have no more then 2 kids, so I can split my belongings evenly, one will have my house and saving the other will have my Steam account.

I happen to quite like steam too, its a useful platform that brings both players into the game and keeps things simple, you don't have to faff around with a specialist launcher or anything like that. Its a nice simple system that comes with some support, a decent connection and helps bring the game to more people, while I would prefer the devs to get a bigger slice of the proceeds from sales steam is a very useful platform to be on. I can't imagine many people would even find the game unless it was on steam, I remember before we hit early access and the server populations didn't often peak above around 35 people online at any moment, I don't want to go back to that, I want people to play with.

Anything is better than EA Orgiins system.  I swear it took me 12 hours last week to download ME2 and 9 hours to get ME.   I haven't even tried to put ME3 back on my computer.   I wanted to go back and play all three of them as new play throughs after watching the new teaser for ME:A.    Now tell me that is some sucking download speeds,, than again it was allso during Battfield 1 Beta testing weekend so that might of been why.

As for the computre thing that takes no time but it's a pain cause I get my work laptops swapped out all the time and I have to reset it on those computers every time cause I keep an external drive of all my games for travel to use with them.

I think the recent lag problems is something else going on.   NOt to mention the DDS attacks folks been getting in TS.  The servers all seem to be in the same area that are having issues so it's prob major packet lost from certain routers we have to use and others don't to get to the game servers.

He  talks about Digital Homicid that is only thing steam have done anything about and what they did was protect the gamers do to those programmers doing realy bad games and when the youtubers say what they think about it they get lawsuits. and now they put in even more when players ask if they are real programmers they have been the same got a lawsuit. then they want the real names of the players and do the same to steam so who is doing bad thing ther.

I love steam..

When I only used Steam for a couple of games, it was annoying to have that extra program to deal with. Now, I have a bunch of games on Steam, and I like it. Not only does it keep a bunch of my games organized, but I can buy games through the same program, easily install mods, chat with friends, etc. I only get the verification crap when I try to log in through my browser, which is annoying, but I don't do that very often.

Been using it for many years. Never had any issue with it. I like the enhanced security as it provides me and my family no problems with having our digital collection safe.

Also it would be a pain to store all of the games in house. Just too many "junk".

Yah we have two accounts in our house.  Mine and the family one that I can watch what games are on it for the kids and what they can't play.

Are you using a mobile connection? I am using both Steam and Origin and never had issues. Took me about 2 hours to install the Witcher 3 + alll DLCs with Origin (thats an average of 7MBit/s) and my updates on steam are too fast for me to click the "show downloads" button. Steam is fine, never waited longer than about 2 hours for the support to answer my requests and stuff. Way better than it used to be back in the beginning of it.

I never had any issues with Steam, on the contrary.

I do eg own all parts of the Panzer Corps Franchise. They started outside Steam and than went to Steam, which means I dont  have to dig out a dozen license keys, manually put them into my new PC, search for my old downloads, get the game updated etc....

Same goes for Civ and a few other old favorites.

Should there ever be a NA 2, I hope its on Steam !

I have been using Steam for years.  Never had a problem.

The concept is very good, as it engages network economics to enable small game publishers to start with a powerful, stable host and market to a large, established community.

Go back to the old days of every time I buy a new computer I have to find all my old gamming disks and passwords to reinstall everything?
