Devlog: Forthcoming content patches plan

Recommended Posts

This must be my PVP issue. I'm usually not home from work and online until 1800-1900 EST

Ahh, 10-4...  Yeah, the Euros seem to have better numbers than us here in the states, Canada and South America...  Hopefully moreof the PvP2 crowd migrates over.

And thats more or less the reason they want to merge the servers.

I do like the introduction of fishing. Gives people something to do while they wait for labor hours to regenerate, since PvE can get pretty tedious pretty quickly.

Right now if you're level 50 you basically just log in to craft, then log out. Only 120 people on the server anyways. Not even worth going out to PvP since you won't find anyone.

Yes its a shame people in mubers dont goout and look for enemy to engage. Goout in hunter packs etc and kill tje bad guys like it should be. This game can only be what the plaers make it and unfortunately it seems most players need to be told what to do next or at least pointed in a direction by a quest or something and demand new content weekly when in reality we could be making our own content.

There is more than just port battles and the grind to achieve max level to this game. Yes with a low population its harder to find a fight but there never seemed to be that many anyways. With the no cooldown teleport causing a diversion attack to draw ships away from the attack is pointless now since they can teleport as much as they want amd that has hurt open seas too but still there is so much tjat can be done if players did it.

The servers aren't going to be merged just because -you- want more players to play with Merrill, maybe those players are happy where they are and don't want to play with you :P

Keep burying your head in the sand my friend, its coming....  But honestly, I could care less.  I'm having plenty of fun, regardless.

I assume that with the 7 day cooldown, that the timers will cease to exist, right?  I know the big deal with us in the US/Canadian time zone is the lack of port targets available due to the Europeans setting the timers to their time zone.  If this is the case, then I am all for the 7 day cooldown.  It would allow for more coordination between "shifts" and more fun for us!

No timers with new assault fleet mechanic + 7 days cooldown = way less port battles.

7 days cooldown without any other changes = steamrolling made even easier.

Do you have any examples of what content can be created by players?

Player trader raiding/piracy, convoy raiding, single ship frigate actions, medium and large fleet actions. All you have to do is undock and go sailing instead of hanging around your capital or favorite free port. This is a game where unless your entire reason for playing is to click "build" on the crafting screen, you must  go onto the OW. The thrill of outsailing a pirate and protecting your cargo, the feeling of triumph from sinking another player, its all there on the OW and only costs the risk of pixel gold and a ship dura which can be easily regained.

Prerequisite: Brain hardware with Imagination latest version and Fun upgrade.

P.S.- does not work with the PowerGaming extension.

...

One everyday example of content: Indiaman convoy, say like 5 or 6 of you, with a couple buddies escorting.

Seen it a few times, full player driven content.

But yeah... Oh no I'm not gonna risk it... Oh no I'm not gonna wait for all my buddies... Oh no...etc

Others answered for me so yeah what they said. What is this new content people expect in a player driven world ? Hunt the kracken missions ? Catch 4 moby dicks and make me a whale bone cup ? You have to realize games like this are not theme park rides where a developer team tells you what to do .

If you only have fun power gaming then a sandbox cant help you BUT if being one of the cogs in a world that helps shape it is your thing than this is your thing.

Also keep in mind this is a 19th century carrebean naval/management /conquest game. So there are dozens of things to do as several have mentioned. Just find your part in this online world and do it. Fight ,trade, spy, hunt or wage war. Just like in real life things wont always be constant action BUT if more people started getting out into the world instead of worrying abut losing a ship there would be tons of action.

Heck if youre a national player put together a pirate hunting team and you can spend your days going to pirate hotspots and ambush or trap them. Make a name for yourself. On my server my clan is well known and hated by many brits and they know us by name and even have a cool nickname for us lol and our clan is 3 people.

Certainly, now first your group needs to define what kind of role you wish to play in the game. From there you go out and make stuff happen. I know that sounds vague but part of that is because everything starts as a blank slate.

Let's assume your group fancies themselves independent developers of the new world. You pick your goals. Secure a regional port area and build a sustaining empire like the Nassau pirates in Black Sails.

To do this you need to explore and pick your location. You want it to be a regional port near a Free City. This will make your empire prosper as the regionals give better NPC harvesting options and the proximaty to the free city will open it up to trade with all nations. Once you have the area picked form up a team, recruit some extras from your nation and capture the regional for our base. Then you'll also want to capture the nearest iron, coal, silver and copper ports. This will help set up your empire for your nation. Start by getting the base resources for ship building set up in the market at Free City. Perhaps keeping a personal clan reserve at the regional. Advertise your empire to your nation and your free city trade to the rest of the game. Now you have made content. Others will come and interact with your content creating more content. Your empire may flourish as allies move into the free city and trade with others, NPC/mission runners may flock to your regional base. Your empire will grow. Privateers may hunt your coast and you may choose to kill them, trap them or force their fidelity to your empire. You may become attacked by another empire. You may be called upon to support your mother nation.

Anyway, you get the idea, we first have to create our own content to build upon. If you ever played EVE the frontier space out of the beta was as virgin of content as NA. Everything you see there today in the vast expanse of the frontier in that game was a result of the first handful of players moving out there and building something. Everything else came from that start.

Yes, same goes to losing one dura. Such people run the risk of actually playing the game at some point xD

My personal experience is that once you lose your first dura and digest it and realize it's not the end of the world, this game becomes MUCH more fun. Get out there, people!!

FISHING!!! I am glad the thing many of us including me suggested is coming to be true! I just hope there will be actually like something animation-wise game, not just it will be all about stats. I still remember when in the summer of 2014 we got to test the game and from there it has come thus far. I am still saving up for a PC to be able to run this game on its maximum glory on 1080p, hopefully should be achieved during this summer! Cant wait.

  • 7 day cool down on successful port captures

I fear we'll see 2 rolling waves moving back and forth along the coast instead of an actual front-line.

Then again http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/14642-port-battles-assault-flag-rework-proposals-moderated/ should be upcoming. So we might as well give it a shot.

I'm confident that they gonna rework the meaning of ports, too. Like to a point where a 2-3 day warning and a 7 day cooldown period actually makes sense. Sure, right now you might wonder why but once ports become more than a mere service station having an advanced warning and a cooldown period will be actually much appreciated I think..

You could do all sorts of stuff with ports to give them meaning like investing money into better port battle defenses as a lord protector, for example. The more people which produce there the more taxes and richer, bigger and popular a port becomes et cetera. There are so many good suggestions for this type of stuff. Devs really only have to take their pick..

I never liked the sneakiness of taking entire coast lines over night anyway in naval action..

What about the boarding redesign? Is boarding going to stay the way it is?

Oh I remember the "imagination" argument when Elite was released without content.

You can't imagine good PVP happening. It actually needs to happen.

That can still happen and after that you'll see a whole coast line locked for 7 days.

So if you are not there to block the advancing fleet, you are screwed. :P

Admins: A quick question: When the Officers are added, will there be any graphical changes to the game like: We will see the Captain or the Officer of the ship on deck? And also, could you shed a bit more light onto your ideas how the fishing will be implemented?

If they wanna merge PvP 2 and PvP 1, I have a suggestion.

They should make a poll about it in the game, for people who log onto PvP 2, to see how many of them who wants the merge to happen.

Just a pop-up-box as you log into PvP 2.
