Well you are right about the Agamemnon. If PB entry remains based on class, the Agamemnon will be the new status quo. But three more crafters is still a good thing, making the recipe universal (which makes a lot of sense if the ships stays the best for PBs) is another crusade.

I'm not arguing Pavel == Bucentaure, they are not. In a 1v1 the "Buck" beats the Pavel, and even more than your data suggests: You can use a healthy number of 42pd carronades on her weather deck and the Pavel only gets utterly useless 6pd longs. The only equivalency I'm arguing for is that, at range, the two 80 gun ships with their two decks of heavy guns (42s and 24s) are essentially equal in firepower to the first rates, thanks to the current penetration values. HP still favors the three deckers ofc. The problem with your chart is that it appears (not saying you haven't indicated otherwise) to show that you can stack N Renommees against a Santisima and your chart will tell how many Renommees you need. Even excluding maneuvering, only for a static gunnery test, the Santi will own the Rens (due to the immunity via armor thickness when using 9s on the Ren) and as such the graph has to be taken with a huge grain of salt. You probably need more than 2 dimensions to be able to show relative ship+armor performance against each opponent. Maybe you can steal the sometimes not well liked concept of "effective HP" from WoW (but it's still going to be more than one dimension in our case) I'm not a chart guy tho Oh, and the Victory still outsails the Santi hehe. (Probably because of a combination of of her better turn rate she is quicker to get effective angles on the sails + her speed degrades less when sailing close; so her overall acceleration is much better. She may even be faster in raw acceleration downwind, no tests done though because the difference between the two ships when sailed side by side is visibly in favor of the Vic)

Yeah, you present raw data, and that is fine.. "but" Like Manuva mentions, you need to include penetration and armor thickness in that presentation because you can achieve relative near-immunity. It is all very well to say that the Santi has the most firepower, however, in practice the 80 gunners (especially Bucentaure) are dead even in destructive power with her at ranges that count because 12s and 9s are useless as soon as you run out of double charge. Carronades make Buc and Santi very viable. Ocean is the best not just because of her guns or hitpoints but because of the sloping effect of her tumblehome. The Trincomalee is the best fifth rate but not for all the reasons you stated. A Belle Poule or (Cherubim) Frigate will eat a Trinc alive in a 1v1 when it comes to raw dogfighting, however, the Trinc as you mentioned has much sturdier masts and this outweighs most other considerations. The Victory is most certainly not the slowest First Rate, it is in fact the best sailing vessel of the class, she will beat her peers hands down, any day of the week. It is a case of "the IS-7 does 60km/h".

Nation balancing doesn't necessarily need to be just via population control (although an easier mechanic and incentive to transfer your char to low-pop factions would be nice); it could come in the shape of buffs to crafting alliance slots etc. -

I kinda like the idea, but it will make the game slower still (and increase the 'loss' anxiety, too, I fear). Durabilities are a quality of life improvement, without them you have to sail back home to fetch another ship. Also, module cost needs to come down as well, and for me the biggest issue on 1 dura boats is called "Exceptional Powder Monkeys". 1 dura ships are a case of "careful what you wish for" -

I agree a fully fledged boarding game would be nice. But the system right now is intended to make ping mostly irrelevant: if you have 250ms ping you should be able to get your commands to the server in time to do the last minute juke/bait-and-switch. If you issue a command in of the one second windows, you can only switch to a different action in the next window. (I think) You could be right about the client updates that show the enemy reaction being faster with a lower ping, but I feel they are also only updated once a second to not give any advantages to low latency players. -

I find the ping vs boarding comments confusing. Isn't the whole point of partitioning the boarding in 1 second reaction slots so that it is ping independent? -

Those two things are not incompatible The current Slow/Battle/../ sail settings could remain but instead of being the only possible sail configuration, they could be presets for the ship and you can change them if you are so inclined (and if you like a particular ship so much that you don't mind endless fiddling with the sails to get it just right) Another dimension of the game, but with very little objective gains: people are hunting for the best modules to get a one or two percent improvement. Sail optimization could be another route to maximize the ship's potential, but it would be driven by players, not random item drops.- 12 replies

Yes, please. Otherwise you will look like someone who comes in here with an axe to grind and who accuses the players in the tournament of delaying the patch because they want to have it their way at the expense of all other players .. when in reality this is only in your head. And it is not for me to prove that such a link between tournament schedule and patch delay exists, that is your claim. -

Is there a post by one of the devs where that link is made? I find this hard to believe, the tournament takes place in small battles (or even their own lobby now), I don't see how a PB mechanic patch will have anything to do with that, and even if that was the case, changing combat meta due to some patch wouldn't be a problem for the tournament because the rules would have changed for everyone.. .. rule changes were made while this was underway, too, so why would they have to wait for the tournament? -

Note that what the OP is actually asking for is closing gun ports when the deck is disabled (F1-F4, perhaps F5) not recoil every time a gun is fired.

The free Buc has two durabilities, btw. Without mods there is no drawback sailing that last dura.. there is a flaw in that sob story
