  1. I almost didn't post in here because of the bile and froth that people spill here and it's usually folks who haven't been there that infect these threads. However, the pirates who attacked Jeremie over the course of weeks have always been exemplary in their conduct and we had so many memorable and good fights without attitude on both sides that I want to congratulate them for their deserved win - there were close calls before but the last battle was a true nailbiter but I am almost glad to lose it because we are no longer shackled to the defense of that port. I have my doubts about the viability of port battles and the current BR requirements though. They are very hard to achieve for the attacker. We didn't bring any first rates to this fight yet it was still artificially close. I dread the day El Morro style forts are in the game, this would make port captures truly impossible.
  2. This is pretty cool thanks!
  3. TsunamiEmperor, you're mostly right about what happened w/respect to Spain - and I will add my personal opinion that British response was very heavy handed but some form of response was needed. This is one of the small steps why this has spun out of control You should return to Spain and use that reason of yours there, pirates already had a cohesive national policy. You are wrong about us being scared though, I enjoy GB not being top dog any longer; it was the number one thing that made me hesitant choosing the faction - too many Aubrey111s. There is quite a bit of fight left still .. and this is what this game is about!
  4. Both nations need to relearn trust again. To this end Jager's offer seems like a worthwhile first step no?
  5. Yes and this is why ports need to be returned to the Spanish. Sweden and France have 'governments' that are easy to work with and can be reasoned with.
  6. If I had a brain I would let these guys eat it!
  7. The problem isn't fighting against random players. The problem is fighting in random conditions. Without a training room you will not get proper duels on a regular basis. Teaching people takes twice as long. What you are typing tells me you never had a nailbiting close run 1v1. If you had wouldn't you want to replicate this more often? I think rather than worrying about such a thing ruining our gameplay I am afraid for yours - you are missing out one of the most thrilling aspects of NA. This doesn't mean duelists don't enjoy the rest of OW.
  8. +1 for training rooms. Galileus, there is nothing in NA now that was comparable to the intensity of training you got by getting ass whooped by Doran in a duel. That art is almost completely gone. We don't need a separate ST server, 'Generic Battles' are already in OW + a lobby/queue system to organize 1v1/2v2/4v4.
  9. Why the hell does everybody want to surrender after losing a handful of ports? Fighting is the whole point of the game - and the war has just begun!
  10. n_KA, the reason why your fellow pirates are so upset is because the behaviour of the people in that screen shot, intentional or not, were endangering the spoils of a much larger attack. An attack against a fully defended port is nigh impossible to win currently. Had this port been defended -even lightly; 5 frigates substituting third rates would stack the odds heavily in favour of the defender. In order to win, your fellow pirates had organized a grand fleet attacking another port, and that fleet paid heavily, not just the costs for buying flags but also losing chores of third rates in the diversion. [bEARS] put the entire operation in danger, potentially wasting millions. I hope the devs can put a mechanic in place like port battles being invite-only (flag carriers gets to pick) because this is too easy to abuse or get wrong by new players who just want to tag along. In before the "fellow countrymen buys flag for enemy port then is afk to prevent PB abuse"
  11. We don't need BS like that. At least you pirates can sink these guys whenever you see them. Good job on St Marc your diversion worked
  12. The footage is from a documentary where they recreated the gunpowder plot and asked: would they have been able to blow up the parliament building and kill everyone in it? They then gave it a try (test dummies and all) and recreated the known conditions around it (it is an interesting watch btw). A ship will have some of the same factors that are explained in the full documentary: water is uncompressible so when the magazine down below blows up it acts like the cellar of the building: the expanding air will be redirected upwards, so a magazine explosion will probably look fairly similar.
  13. We cannot be at the same time the bad guys masterminding every single evil in the world and only be involved on paper. You need to make your mind up.
  14. What Tommy just posted needs to be stickied somewhere
  15. Putting timers on Cuban ports that have none is smart, no? Much easier to defend the Yucatan Channel this way. Spanish ports that had timers were not taken.
  16. I was thinking the same thing today. Hardly any drawbacks and you get to use a large potential lineup of 4th and 3rd rates.
  17. I wish the devs could post relative country strengths (# of players - or better yet - number of player hours).
  18. You are right, the game is rather one dimensional if you only do single player stuff but it is a great enabler if you join a clan and join in on the national effort. Lots of fun to be had there, including awesome battles that will keep you entertained, unfortunately the game doesn't yet steer you in that direction.
  19. Niels, your nation bore the brunt of fighting against the British pre-EA with great composure and exemplary gallantry, and now you are facing even stronger enemies from the south and you continue to fight against those odds with grim determination, no complaints and no underhandedness and I trust you have come to expect a similar honourable conduct from us. I am sure you will understand how you hit a nerve here because the DAS leadership has misrepresented what has happened, either intentional or by accident and have cast us in a bad light. Why would we initiate a cease fire with the Dutch? It makes no sense geographically. Our French allies would be the ones calling the shot here and they seem to be doing just fine. Rest assured that if there ever were peace talks between us, we would talk directly to Danish representatives as the main combatant for us in that part of the world and not relegate you by asking a Dutch intermediary.
