  1. This is a gameplay vs realism argument where I believe "gameplay should win. Yes, we have an unrealistic amount of ammo for these ships (and powder). However, if we were to limit ammunition, we would force players to return to port all the time. In the real world history, there was not the amount of fighting that goes on in the game. Battles were relatively rare (per ship). Forcing players to return to port after each battle is no fun. With the current battle mechanics (think of the amount of broadsides we end up firing at "repaired" ships) we would all run out of ammo halfway though a battle.
  2. This has been mentioned before, but honestly, if newbies were required to start on the PVE server, maybe for their 1st 3 ranks, they would learn a lot.
  3. I agree. Because shipbuilding is more rewarding outside of the capital, I want to move to another port as a main base for this sort of thing. I need another clan warehouse or at least the ability to move the existing Clan warehouse. Allowing us to have clan warehouses elsewhere would also open up the game for everyone and remove the carebear complaints from all the hunters.
  4. We can make a pretty good stab at keelhauling by dragging you under a large woman with unshaved legs at the public pool....
  5. I f you want this to be a super boarding ship, it should be made of glass...pros and cons. Its crazy to have all pros.
  6. Simulators that are very realistic can make people seasick. I have witnessed this, lol.
  7. For me this is a big problem. A piece of crap Xebec (all Xebecs are crap and don't belong in the Caribbean) shouldn't be capable of defeating a 5th rate
  8. But you could beef up some of the AI fleets. Two 5th rates and an Indiaman with good loot? Maybe 5% of AI fleets have a merch or two and they are all buffed.
  9. They haven't said they're going to do that. I was just saying I wouldn't care. Actually I would love it. All the high ranking admirals with all the great stuff would be on my level..
  10. They could wipe it entirely and start us out again in a basic cutter and I would be fine if there was new stuff on it. I'm an addict.
  11. Dood, relax. Sure, it's taking a while but so what? As it stands its an awesome game for the historic period. You're not really cannon fodder as its not real bullets. Breathe.....
  12. Trust me, if the anchor grabs, its sudden catastrophe.
  13. In fact, if you're going more than 2 or 3 knots, anchor and cable will be torn out of your ship. But not before the cable destroys the forward part of your ship and kills a bunch of your crew. Unless its a Disney movie...or you'd drag it... And you cant rotate on an anchor 360 degrees. If you put a spring on it, you can rotate a few degrees.
  14. Devs aren't going to consider such a ludicrous suggestion. They have a realistic appreciation of the result.
  15. Otto, that's just not always possible. There's a bunch of reasons why you cant always get a response from other players. The guys who jumped me were hoping for a fight and nobody came (we were chatting).
  16. Concur with you again (bad habit which I will try and break). I got jumped in a TBrig last week by 3 enemy 5th rates. My reinforcements were laughable and useless and the enemies ignored them. I don't mind losing the TBrig (that's what they're for), but if you're going to have reinforcements they should deter the attackers. _
  17. Yeah, I hate it too. It's way too good for what an actual xebec would be. The reason that European style ships dominated the seven seas is that they were far superior to these things. Some of them were held together with ropes! They are far too fast and far too sturdy in the game. A 5th rate should be able to blow it to splinters with one broadside and a 6th rate with two.
  18. That's very unrealistic. The anchor is not a brake and if the water was actually shallow enough for it to grip the bottom (highly unlikely), it would cause serious damage to the ship. Plus you would lose your anchor.
  19. Going without canons is a choice you make. Going without escort is a choice you make. We cant punish the attacker (no PVP marks) because of your choices. Additionally, sailing traders in a war zone, which is what OW is, is a high risk endeavour and was historically. The were often sunk after capture because a Captain doesn't want your crappy little TBrig. PVP rewards in this case are very appropriate.
  20. I don't think this is a good idea and I am against a new player attaining M&C rank at the start. As a recent new player myself, I found it incredibly valuable to do the grind and learn as I advanced. Making new players start on the PVE server and achieving some basic milestones there would be far more valuable. Yes it sucks to lose your new ship that you finally managed to get the money for, but its better than just being given a ship you have no chance of handling well and have invested nothing into it's acquisition.
  21. I was looking at a Xebec through the telescope last night and noticed what appears to be a VHF antenna on the main mast. Now I don't have a History Degree, but....
