  1. Anybody can tell where KPR is from a distance because of that hill. If the Devs ever get a chance...easily recognisable landmarks, buildings, lighthouses, etc would be an amazing feature. I know from real world experience that you start to recognize various features and buildings in a short time and it gives a feeling of security to know where you are precisely because of that little church on the hill...
  2. @admin, do you not have concerns regarding building a mint? I'm thinking of real world issues where nations print too much money and develop massive inflation...Too real?
  3. This has been answered multiple times already. Many people who play this game like a combination of both. PVE server is colossally boring. I personally love going out in OW and Hunting/being hunted. I enjoy the Patrol missions (with the exception of the 7v1 ganks). I also run traders to pay for all my ship losses. Good money can be made in OW but it is always an enormous relief when I reach "home" waters and can finish that particular cruise in relative safety (very realistic). I like clan activities in OW and PBs. And finally, I like to run missions in safety in order to try new ships, gain some quick experience when I don't have a lot of time, and grind up slots. I think you will find that many share these preferences.
  4. After 38 years in the navy I can tell you this. As you close your target, all is revealed. Ship class, ship name, armament, radars (okay we can skip that one), speed, etc. Difficulty in ID at long range is a great idea, but if you want to stick with your realism model, before you engage you should know most of the details. Having said that, sometimes closing to get the details is suicide.....that's a shame...
  5. Yah, Patrol zone fights would be great with one simple tweak. You cannot join a fight on the side of the highest BR and you must join as an individual. Recently, my clan were out in force in the patrol zone and we couldn't find a fight. What did we do? Joined both sides of a 1 v 1 in equal numbers. Great battle...loads of fun....I died...so what.
  6. I'm going to be very interested to see what happens with the reinforcement limits in the safe zone. Does it mean that the reinforcement is the same level of the attacking players? double their level in the same class of ships? Some of the better players (not me yet) may be willing to accept that risk and plow through the AI's to get you. Could make for some exciting fights. Do you stick around and assist your AI friends or run like hell?
  7. You don't read before you reply. I didn't say leaving the safe zone is a death sentence. Maybe that is what you wanted to hear. I said, taking a mission outside the safe zone is a death sentence. I leave the safe zone all the time. I like the combo of some safety and high risk. (I spent an entire military career in "high risk" so bring it on). If you take a mission outside the safe zone in your single vessel, you WILL be jumped by a group of enemies. Only bullies enjoy bullying.
  8. There is PVP and there is ganking. Don't mix the two. Taking a mission outside of the green zone is a death sentence. I do missions, OW trading, Patrols, and I hunt outside (still suck at it). That's the way I want to play. You have no right to tell me I'm doing it wrong because of your idea of how the game SHOULD be played.
  9. Wow, you refuse to open your eyes to what others are saying. Other people paid for this game...They have a right to play it however they want. Stop whining about what other people are doing. As soon as you say "Other players should do it this way", you are throwing away any credibility you might have.
  10. The problem is you don't have a PVP battle, you have a gank squad battle that you will certainly lose. The issue here is that missions outside of the safe zone do not close. Gank squads feed on these. Any mission outside of the safe zone WILL be victimised. Either close all missions when you enter or get rid of them. Having missions that can be ganked is counter-productive. This is broken and needs to be fixed. Ganking is poison in this game. The rest of the mods look very interesting and should raise some great discussions.
  11. I agree with this comment, however, using the same logic, at 5 miles, you would know everything about a Ship/fleet. Historically, you would often know the enemy Captain's name as well as his ship's capabilities.
  12. I started this game at the beginning of the year and I love it. I'm a history fan of this era and the game was made for me. Having said that, there are realism issues that should be addressed and other unrealistic issues that should be left alone. (starting with limited chain..) -We need unlimited ammo just for non-tedious gameplay...running low or out of ammo in a battle can mean a long sail home to replenish...no fun. Both ball and chain punched holes in sails...chain was used to destroy rigging and the smaller masts and yards - the effects of chain should change, not its amount. repairs in battle (especially to crew) should be next to non-existent. it did NOT happen in actual battles to any substantial degree. Repair after battle is realistic...Sails can be fully repaired and structure too. I'm on the fence about crew replacement because of the tedium factor of returning to friendly ports for new crew. Get rid of all the super mods...Ships of the same class should be very similar. (A player of high skill does not need an extra advantage, and I can't achieve high skill if im outclassed by super-mods. This is the major issue with this game IMO. Skill should triumph, not gear.) I understand why the wind is constantly changing in OW and agree with the method, although it should be about 5 times slower. It should NOT change in battle. All your planned tactics get tossed out the window with the rapidly changing wind direction. Battles are short enough that wind can be consistent. Patrol zones are great and bring on the 5th rate limited zones as well. You still have to protect the carebears though as they are part of the game. Oh, and there are far too many 1st Rates in the game! You guys (Devs) have produced a great game. Just a few common sense tweaks...
