  1. I had the same conversation last night with Mr Blazing Orange. He jumped me and my buddy (me in Herc, buddy in L'Hermoine) with his hunting Endy. He killed my buddy easily with me out of range, but when I got there with my Herc I was able to outmaneuver him and kill him. He started whining about pay to win DLC. Mind, he had no problem with killing me in my LVG the day before. This guy was on the PVP leader board with 50pts (probably seal clubbing) and got nasty because he got beat by a better ship (or was it the Captain??), but he's okay with wiping out traders in his buffed Endy. Thanks for the Copper Plating mate and see you next time!
  2. From Carl von Clausewitz...."The first and most important rule to observe...is to use our entire forces with the utmost energy. The second is to concentrate our power as much as possible against that section where the chief blows are to be delivered and to incur disadvantages elsewhere, so that our chances of success may increase at the decisive point. The third rule is to never waste time. Finally, the fourth rule is to follow up our successes with the utmost energy. Only pursuit of the beaten enemy gives the fruits of victory".
  3. That's simply not true. Are you reading romance novels? In wartime, all is (and was) fair. Outnumbering your enemy was a desirable goal and warships attacking trade was highly rewarded. Certainly more honour was gained in winning against odds, but the job was to defeat the enemy, not joust for a lady's handkerchief.
  4. Its not a slower ship. This thread is about fast ships raiding and then being harassed as they try to escape. The chase ships keep them in battle by firing ball and hitting sails...long and boring. If they get out of that battle instance, there are others waiting to re-tag them. A long chase in a battle instance is quite realistic IMO, but the whole re-tagging thing should be fixed. I agree with previous posts that longer invisibility (and yes, fix the dam turn rate) is a good answer. Defence fleets should still have a chance to kill a Raider (he deserves to die!), but it shouldn't be this tedious.
  5. Turn and fight...or stay home. If you attack players in their home waters, you should expect to get mobbed.
  6. I see. Very strange when the Herc is in fact the smaller ship...but that makes sense. Thanks. @admin, that seems a bit buggy. Smaller ship but 3 decks has this impact.
  7. Nah, I can board an AI LGV with my herc at 100 prep and the "Fire Deck Guns" option stays black for the whole boarding. I still win but it's odd
  8. I don't seem to be able to "Fire Deck Guns" in the boarding mini-game with my Herc. Is this something im doing wrong? It works with other ships I use to board.
  9. I would say yes with the Herc (haven't tried the Xebec).. I can do fifth rate missions with it and murder the AI opponents as it maneuvers like a snow. I got jumped by a player in a heavy Rattler yesterday and barely got scratched...my 18pdrs dismantled him and again, I was more maneuverable (3/5 Teak/WO with basic mods). Its a 5th rate that turns like a snow.
  10. The thing about Dutch merchies from the era was that they were always available to the navy as auxiliary war vessels and often fought in the line with the purpose built warships. You can see how heavily gunned she is and she can be easily mistaken for a SOL. About the only difference would be strength of hull. I wouldn't want to tackle this "Trader" with a Frigate!
  11. Have them start on the PVE server for their first three ranks.
  12. St Andrew's Day, St Patrick's Day, Guy Fawkes Day...
  13. It was especially bright when we burned down the White house.
  14. Well, NOW that you've explained it...I see your point. Solutions? 1. Remove Demast function on attacking fleet. 2. As per Patrol Zone mechanic, attacking fleet ships do not enter battle instance. 3. Limit chain on bots to same as Player ship. Any others? I would suggest that defensive fleet ships be left alone.
  15. If these two ships are 5th rates, would that mean that any reinforcements that come in against them are also 5th rates? That could get exciting...
  16. I see. I'm still hesitant to advise taking something out of gameplay. I've only ever used fleet for trade. What if we used the Patrol zone mechanic where fleet ships do not appear in the battle instance.
  17. Don't do it. Some players have found a way to counter the super modded PVP hunter. More power to them for having a good deterrent. If a lone ship attacks a fleet, he should face some disadvantages.
  18. You're really a whiner, aren't you? Every post you make is negative and you don't offer solutions. Do you actually play the game?
  19. We have it in modern periscopes.....not sure it would fit in with the immersion of this game. It would be great if when you stop looking through your telescope the normal view is on the same bearing though.
  20. Thank-you. I would truly miss the fun of sailing and fighting different ships. All the 6th rates should have something which makes them unique and valuable to specific player styles. Some prefer the maneuverability of the Snow while others want the heavy punch of the Niagara or the high speed of the Prince.
  21. Bottom line is that none of the old 6th rates are any use at all now. That is an issue
  22. Speed gives more stable decks in a sea state. Slow down and you roll like a drunken sailor (I have some experience on the "drunken sailor" aspect). "Battle" sails were a case of bringing in your courses (lowest sails) in order to reduce the risk of them catching fire.
