Nice!

Good job guys.

history note:  During this time period, Biloxi and eastward to the peninsula, are considered part of West Florida.  Baton Rouge (not in game) is also part of West Florida.  The main Florida peninsula is called Florida or East Florida.  However, none of this matters.  Though, interestingly, the US inhabitants of Western Florida rebelled against their Spanish overlords in 1810 and took the Spanish Fortress of Baton Rouge.  This was the first time the Bonnie Blue Flag was used if I remember right and they made the Republic of West Florida.  The US took West Florida in 1813 after annexing it.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Territorial_Expansion_of_the_United_States_since_1803_excerpt_of_East_and_West_Florida_with_US_seizure_noted.png

I was there on the deffending side and it was a big battle indeed. It was great to battle for a port against the US for once instead of it happening over night.

Sadly there is not a single player in the faction any where near crewing a 3rd rate despite playing many many hours, let's not talk about 4 in the same battle.

I think there could be some interesting battles in the future between our factions if we keep enough ports near La Habana to retain some player base in the server.

This doesn't list the very fun fleet battle prior to the port battles between 20 Spanish vs 11 Americans. Spanish had more players but Americans ships a bit heavier, but a very good fair fight. Americans were also decisively victorious in that one.

There is little reason for our factions to even be at war if not for some ill-advised "guidance" one of your major clans received from the British immediately after the wipe.

The U.S. has consistently held out the olive branch of peace and has been rebuffed, often rudely. If you are losing Spanish players on the server because of the continued belligerency of your faction's leadership, it is regrettable, as we much enjoy the company of many Spanish players who play on the server.

I'm not sure what this post even means...We still desire peace with Spain, but if you will not have it, we are happy enough to continue beating you at every encounter.

Gunboat diplomacy... Love it sir!

Life mirrors history:

GUNBOAT DIPLOMACY can be defined in a general way as any aggressive diplomatic activity carried out with the implicit or explicit use of military (usually naval) power. However, the term is most often associated with the activities of the Great Powers in the second half of the nineteenth century and the early twentieth century. In this period, the construction of steel-hulled vessels of relatively shallow draught (gunboats) that were heavily armed provided new opportunities for the projection of power on the part of rival imperial powers. In the case of the United States, gunboat diplomacy is probably most closely associated with Washington's diplomatic and military interventions in the Caribbean during the early decades of the twentieth century.

With the promulgation of the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine in 1904 by President Theodore Roosevelt, the use of naval power as an instrument of U.S. foreign policy in the Caribbean and Latin America was explicitly foregrounded. Roosevelt, who had fought in the Spanish-American War (1898), wanted to make the United States the dominant power in the circum-Caribbean and across the Pacific. The U.S. Navy grew in size by ten battleships and four cruisers during Roosevelt's presidency. Under his stewardship the United States played a key role in Panama's break with Colombia and the building of the Panama Canal. He also presided over direct naval intervention in the Dominican Republic. Between 1905 and 1907, gunboat diplomacy ensured U.S. financial supervision and control in that nation while avoiding, at least initially, both the costs and the enmity that went with the establishment of a formal colony. The use of gunboat diplomacy, including the deployment of marines, in support of direct U.S. control over government finances was also central to Washington's involvement in Nicaragua between 1916 and 1933. Meanwhile, the United States intervened in Haiti in 1915, ostensibly out of concern that Germany was planning to establish submarine bases there; U.S. Marines remained in Haiti until 1934.

The high period of gunboat diplomacy can be said to have ended in 1933 with the adoption of the Good Neighbor Policy by President Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933–1945).

Can we implore you to learn from your ancestors and adopt the Good Neighbor Policy again?

Is the point of this game to fight and expand or not? ;)

In all seriousness though, we let the Spanish throw several first punches without returning any in the hopes for peace with them. They kept punching, so away we go :) I genuinely feel bad for the innocent Spanish players who were not involved in those initial punches. They can take that up with the RAE.

US Navy only earn on advertising.  this newspaper forgets to mention that yesterday, a group of Spanish sailors, the brave spaniards, whose residence set in the depths of their territory, with a group of 5 Spanish brigs, sunk, burned or taken as a prize some 10 ships almost all category far superior. Americans not only are powerless seeing our wild forays into the depths of the American heart, but attend with their tears to increase the volume of the sea. We Spaniards, used to fight a guerrilla war in which historically Navy and the US Army are very poor, we will intensify our actions command, we  will capture more boats every day, we will bring the  terror to the hearts and minds of the US navy, especially when in this poor newspaper tell lies in a desperate way, orchestrated to try to increase the courage of his poor sailors.

This newspaper is ridiculous, not to mention to the many losses the brave Spanish army inflicts daily at their own gates. Do not let people lie! The truth is out there ... and hurt the US Navy.

See you soon, collecting pieces of burning wood from your ships!!!

"Gunboat Diplomacy" or "Peace through Strength", Mr. Caldwell?....  I propose that its the latter, but your results may vary.  However, as I am sure you are aware, you in fact must have resources with which to negotiate with, if you are to negotiate at all.  I see that the British Empire has more ports than it started with after the wipe.  Am I to believe that every one of those was obtained by the Olive Branch rather than the sword?  Or as us "colonial simpletons" might say, the "carrott instead of the stick"?

This newspaper only reports important events. It does not have the space to report every mosquito bite when there are body blows to record.
