Surrender and Cowards

Recommended Posts

I like both mechanics but each should come with a reasonable set back to the character using the ability.

Surrenders-

For obvious reasons this has become the new norm at the end of a battle. That isn't a bad thing but it robs the victor of the gold and xp due to the current mechanic.

Suggestion-

Make surrender cost some gold that is awarded to the victor. This will create a small deterant to surrenders and some compensation to the victor for lost potential gold and xp.

Coward-

Good mechanic for traders but allows too much flexibility for fast raiders to operate off an enemy coast. One thing that is becoming prevalent with this perk is ships running back and forth through the wind or stern camping a ship without chasers in 1v1s for a quick exit at close ranges.

Suggestion-

Make coward a button push option and not automatic. Choosing to use it dumps the guns of the ship overboard for the escape speed. This will work fine and be little issue for trader ships but cause havoc for raiders trying to use coward to operate on an enemy coast. The raider will have to go off station to buy new guns while the trader will just continue on its cargo run. Minus guns in the case of those traders that have them.

Not just the guns, but everything in the hold and maybe the module hold as well.

I have advocated for surrender to produce a % of the kill XP/gold that would have been awarded had they fought to the end.  The percentage would go up as more damage was done to their ship.

So surrendering very late in the battle would generate a high % of what the enemy would have gotten in XP/Gold, and surrendering very early would give almost nothing.

Not the kill, because it was no kill, but a surrender xp bonus.

Defeat is a defeat.  The wording could be changed to Victories and Defeats if it needed to be.  Most surrenders end up with the ship sinking anyway.

what about when you surrender 10% of your crews will join enemy side?

and with that, we can have another perk for officer: Charismatic Officer, instead of 10% you will gain 20% from surrender enemies.

That, or for the sake of simplicity, make it give the same xp and gold as a kill.

The problem is farming and abuse if you give full credit without some other offset.  The advantage to basing it on damage inflicted is that someone still has to repair the damage for the other person to get the reward.

I have an idea regarding surrender: It still does what it does outside the battle, but but inside the battle it counts as a kill for the enemy team. That way the enemy team gets the reward it deserves, and you don't lose a dura on your officer.

Surrendering should only be possible if the ship is not sinking. That would get rid of people surrendering just seconds before they sink. Maybe it could be added, that you can surrender when your ship is taking on water if you have a repair kit left. it would automatically repair the ship after surrendring then.

I think if someone surrenders in a battle they should "surrender" their gold and xp for that battle to the individual who forced the surrender.

So why he may not get the kill reward, he will at least get a prize for forcing the surrender. That gold and xp could be divided amongst the top two or three damage dealers or the top takes all.

This could also penalize the loser to a degree without some of these over the top ideas like crew capture/ransom or taking %s of their in bank gold supplies.

Allowing a player to keep all of their crew and officer lives by surrendering is just plain stupid.  Allowing a player to surrender while they are sinking and keep their crew and officer is way beyond stupid.  What is the rationale behind this lunacy?

New mechanic, new problems to solve. Same as always.

( plus to hell with losing crew and officer to gankers until you gentlemen start behaving with bravery and gallantry )

Please check Admin proposal to solve it, in the crew discussion thread and choose one of the proposed solutions.

Problem is a sinking ship is when you would surrender.... so the other guy would stop shooting at you and take your crew off

Ship's almost always surrendered long before they reached the stage of uncontrollable sinking (which was really difficult to reach in wooden ships).
