AtomicMoose:

I am not against the game changing at all. I think you are placing me under your standards which are not even in the same line as my own.

I want the game to change to even a better representation of the age of sail conflicts in the high seas without resorting too much on easing down.

But that's me. I like the challenge of having to make a pre-flight check, the engine warm up, the rev up and the take off. Also I like to feel the bird flying as she should and not how I want it to. Want to feel the lift and the pull and the touch down.

And if I fail any of these then I deserve to go down in a ball of fire and to restart from scratch.

Every sortie must be diferent, every course a novelty.

Exactly the same with NA as with flying a propeller bird.

If I was a "stupid" fanboy i'd say no bird eye camera and only 1st person on the deck. I do it, it is my option but would never think of forcing it to anyone else.

...

So having fun with a game ( or any hobby for all that matters ) is fanboyism. Note taken.

Let's sit tight and wait for more changes shall we ?

Kumbaya :)

So whatever the game may be at the moment IE: Single player / multiplayer / mmo / simulator / naval combat game: I stand here before you all and would just like to say this

This game is still in development it's still in alpha mode, the devs are a small group in a small company who are trying their best to give you an exciting game to play

They are trying to iron out the flaws that happen in this and in any other game that comes out before final release

Please have some respect for the devs

I bet 99% of people on here have never sat down and designed a game and got it to final release for the public, for the other 1% that did then you know where I am coming from.

Please have some patience and support the devs

I stand firm on this statement and can wait until as long as it takes rather than waiting for a rushed game that has constant flaws.

I'll be on this game until the servers are shut down. :) But one problem, I feel, is that if you are only going to be on for a short time, say 15 minutes, you are limited to crafting (whereas in POTBS you could do a patrol mission or the Tortuga dailies). Unless you have an hour to spare there isn't much else. Even small battles take 30 minutes. Now with fishing soon implemented, hopefully that will be something else to do with a small amount of time.

If were talking numbers here , I wish they would go ahead and merge 2 or announce that they aren't going to. One or the other so that those of us in a holding pattern over it can move on. The announcement of a "possible merge" has killed the server. This wishy washy crap is only pissing people off.

Besides the question about the overall numbers of active players, I may give You a different approach that You and the devs might extrapolate to get the key message:

Over the months at least 2 thirds of my clan mates fell off.

This group consists of our most experienced players, of our best 1vs1 experts and of our best tacticians/admirals.

The reasons given by them were:

It had become too time consuming ( former period of ranking up xp wise)

Large portions split off into new clans and fell off completely a little later

The most commonly given reasons for quitting were:

The advantages the pirate "nation" have received by the devs will dominate all other nations and

The devs are not listening to our good arguments - it seems they like to conserve all the advantages they spent the pirates.

This said by a tester that is not quitting

Now its Your turn, my dear developers. You did a marvellous job so far. The wrong turn came lets say 2 month ago.

Only the pirate players have the satisfying feeling to be on the sunny side of life.

All the others feel like fighting the war in the year 1945 - on the losing side.

Not enjoyable at all!

wrong.  The hide in port gank mechanics made many leave.  The new battle time did away with it.  But you're right, its harder for those that used that shitty tactic to actually find a battle on their own and especially now that its fair.

As someone who's taken a hiatus from this game for quite a few weeks (and these forums) even I was a little bit surprised to see the EU1 server pop down to 450~ish players in the European primetime.

The biggest issue this game (and many other early access games) has is its lack of depth when it comes to anything outside of combat. Crafting complexity is simply "grind X ship to get Y blueprint", gated behind redundant hour timers that only encourage people to buy crafting alt accounts. "Questing" is a complete disaster, with very little time invested into it outside of the AI of the enemy ships that seemingly gets development time devoted to it nearly every other major patch unnecessarily. Long trips across the Caribbean Sea give players almost zero reason to pay attention to their surroundings, especially given that going from Louisiana to the Lesser Antilles can take upwards to 3-4+ hours. I've seen a few implements like "smuggling" and the attention towards diplomacy heading in the right direction, but frankly speaking the devs' direction towards making lasting content for players seems incredibly shallow.

My biggest criticism though (and what's partly responsible for my above complaints) is the allocation of dev resources seems to be all over the place at times. Welcome features like Land in Battles are great, but then often times I'd see the devs going back and forth on tweaking combat mechanics for several weeks without any real meaningful addition to the game. Port battles need changes too, but in a grand overhaul fashion where every port is physically/aesthetically different rather than attempting to break up the monotony of our current PBs by adding "victory points". Quality of life changes like the clan bank are great, other changes such as the repeated attempts at perfecting "tagging" seemed to me to be ultimately a waste of time. Tweaking mission AI difficulty never made a ton of sense to me, considering how shallow the mission "quest" is to begin with, which gave me no desire to do the missions in the first place.

I hope in the future the devs spend more time working on other aspects of the game, preferably areas that make you feel like every action (PvE or PvP) matters to the overall war effort. Contestable whaling areas, missions that actually push a faction-wide goal, escorting traders, making trading in general an interesting part of the game rather than an alt-tab simulator would be great. Maybe we can see AI fleets that actually have an effect on the OW rather than floating pinatas of XP and Gold? The list goes on and I do check in on this game every once and a while to see if anything meaningful has been added, but for me personally I haven't been intrigued after having experienced the beauty of this game's ship combat to its maximum extent.

hethwill do you just post to post or do ever not agree with the dev, there are people like you on every forum that kill ass the dev of the game and it does no good cause i know you play at nite cst cause i see chat in pirate so last nite at 9pm cst there was 200 people on that is not no mmo hell i have seem more single player games with coop have more people

this game is no sim and will never will be cause i would love for a small ship to try to sail behind a large ship cause ever heard of dead wind look it up so, this game is so far from a simulator that it isnt funny so either continue with the arcade version and make it fun and just do away with the open world

sadly i dont think anything the dev do from this point on will ever get the players back that left 95% of them are gone for good all i do anymore is long in and waste some crafting hrs cause i cant find anything else to play right now as i have said hell even world of tanks looks fun now and well shit that is 6yrs old

well you fan bois got what you wanted all the players have left so it is only the few 200-500 that are playing have fun with game now

Please sir, use punctuation! You used only one comma in three paragraphs. If you wanted to us to fully understand your message, then write in a manner it can be read.

Thank you.

I just hope people remember Pirates Gold, Uncharted Waters, and PotBS. What made people buy those games? What made them stay and play for so long. I suspect a huge boom will happen again, but people need to stop focusing on the diminishing population and not let that deter them from continuing to play. Each month some major new addition is added to the game. And once the devs begin to close on the end date, I believe one good showing on PC Gaming or other types of broadcasts that population will return. IMHO, this game will be epic. People just need to keep in mind that we are testers of a game in development.

I would suggest someone make a poll about why they left or are thinking of leaving the game with a multitude of answers allowing multiple choice.

I would like to know IF things change or g back to something prior to what made people quit is there a way to notify people who quit with a email blast or something in order to get them back ? I know fr myself once i quit a game i very seldome go back and im sure most are the same way.

For instance if one day the devs make a eve style sandbix server and a instant battle server with no emphasis on OW could they email blast those gamers that left because of one or the other ?

Myself and 2 other friends quit after dealing with the mods and admins. There is only so much hypocrisy one can take. When you curse on the forums then preach to your players for doing the same it wears thin. Reputation matters. That and paying 40 dollars only to have equals among you given censor status who then go on to abuse it. Perhaps we are just fringe cases. Feel free to disregard.

I want to jump on the bandwagon and thank the developers. There certainly are a lot of naysayers, and people who will complain, while offering no constructive suggestions. I guess that's human nature.

But, I'm personally very much enjoying this game. There are some things that could and should change, and I'm confident that they will. Which is awesome.

So, thank you all for what you've built. And thank you to everyone who is participating and helping to improve the product and the experience.

I actually saw a great number of new players today on the PvP1 servicer. A large number of cutters on the water with a number 1st and 2nd ranked officers (cadets/lts.).

Great to see a new breed come aboard.

Game was on Steam sale over the weekend which has brought a lot of new players in, hopefully they will stick around long enough to enjoy it.

You can still find a twitch channel once in a while. Hopefully population will come back up after the next few patches so there would be more people on the open world, more fights, more reason to stream. :)

Sorry, but have to ask. Twitch channel?? and how it relates to "Stream"??

Every now and then a term or phrase comes along and I am unaware of. There are others who are as well, so I ask....

Looks like 200-250 new players, not to much tbh. How many of them will stay in the game for long time?

Twitch TV is a website that gamers can go broadcast(stream) themselves playing a game. it is a good way for people to check out games and ask questions about the game to a live person.
