  1. Frankly, I can see where the Danes are coming from. I just hope they do not see our nation as incessant trolls/griefers who enjoy watching Danes get up early to retake ports. The ability to set timers for 4-6 generally allows for the next day (or consecutive days) to allow flag purchases to allow for us to keep the presence in a certain territory that we have gained permanently. I won't lie that the tactic is frustrating to deal with, but I hope that my Danish brothers can understand that this tactic is more of a problem with the game that's just being used by the Brits in order to compensate for multi-front wars.
  2. I was excited to hear National News reopened, and then immediately disappointed to see it filled with US/SORRY prick measuring contests. It is further disappointing to see how Vicious's / SORRY's personality contrasts from the forum personality and the one I listened to on Jeheil's clan interview. I want to believe that [sORRY] genuinely gets lambasted by a large amount of this community to an extent that is uncalled for so I can feel sympathy towards them, which would match the vibe I got from Jeheil's point of view, but then I read these bait threads & AARs that range from braggart to downright rude towards opponents. Normally, I can tolerate a level of toxicity from certain individuals to not think much of it, especially when they are isolated incidents in an online community. [sORRY] on the other hand goes out of their way to meticulously count enemies sunk, only to subsequently chide said enemies on the official forums, then post several National News threads that hardly seem qualitative about their victories, which ultimately make me want to avoid any engagements with their clan on the open seas as I know the experience will be terrible regardless of the outcome. If you beat [sORRY] then they will tell you how many 1st Rates they have stored at Mortimer Town to disenfranchise your victory, and if you lose you can be sure your battle will be archived for all eternity to lord over you in a less than gentlemanly way if you dissent against their clan's opinion. The worst part is [sORRY] isn't the only clan that's exhibiting this kind of behavior if this thread is any example, and at this point I'd honestly rather see National News stay locked than see yet another thread about any [sORRY]/US interactions.
  3. Haha, this is why I love the devs of this game. shots fired. To be honest frigates are very viable outside of Port Battles, inside them I really can't see how you could make them stand up against a 25 1st Rate fleet within the confines of the Age of Sail setting. Things like tackling, disabling, stunning, and other MMO status effects would be useful to put on the smaller and more nimble ships like Frigates (and give them a purpose in PBs), but obviously that doesn't work very well here if we're staying true to the setting. I'd considered weather being a factor that benefits smaller ships more (or varying degrees of shallows to give smaller ships more maneuverability) to consider bringing frigates, but those are monumental tasks to undertake and for the moment the upcoming PB changes are sufficient to me. Also laser towers chew up frigates like no tomorrow, which is another huge strike against bringing frigates to PBs at the moment.
  4. I think the clan interviews idea is great and it was interesting seeing [sORRY]'s perspective. When you're fighting against the same handful of clans every single day without talking to them directly --- especially when the language barrier is a thing, it is enjoyable to get some insight from the other side in a "fireside chat" setting. While [sORRY] is certainly notorious for a variety of reasons depending on who you ask, they are still players in our game world and I respect Jeheil for acknowledging that. I hope to see [sLRN]'s perspective in the future.
  5. Conquering Europe won't fund itself.
--- Forgive my poor French, my friends. I do not speak on behalf of the British council, but I wish to address the issue of port timers as I understand it. It is true that through the wisdom of the council it seemed reasonable to set port timers late at night. It is very difficult to defend multiple ports and make progress in a war against your nation with the current port battle mechanics system. Since France has recaptured these ports despite our strategy, it seems ineffective and I expect the British council to readjust accordingly. The strategy was not meant to offend our honorable opponents, but rather an example of us trying our best to make effective gains in this war. Despite these complaints however, I will make it clear that Aves has been on a convenient timer for both nations. Our offensives consistently occur during the European timezone, and we have not been shy at repelling the French and Danish navy at Aves. It should be obvious by now that Aves is central to our strategy, and we have been fair in our port battle window at Aves. Personally, I have to wake up early as a Louisianian to fight my enemies, but I do not mind as this war between our nations has been exceptionally fun. I hope you do not resent the British for setting port timers late at night. It is clear that strategy is ineffective.
  7. If a clan leader isn't responsible enough to ensure that his position will be filled in the case of his absence, I think a complete reorganization of that clan is necessary. My issue with auto-delegation comes from the fact that it's often abused and needlessly causes drama within a clan when someone gets the title of prestige and then goes bonkers with it for selfish reasons.
  8. Auto delegation? No. Allowing a clan leader to pass on his leadership role to another without remaking the entire clan? Yes.
  9. Since the game is borked at the moment, all you need to know is this: Get some cash from missions. Make a Compass Wood factory near a port that consumes it. Buy an Exceptional Speed Trader's Lynx/Trader's Cutter. Buy up all the Compass Wood you make each day and make up to 300,000 gold profit a day by selling it at the consuming port. If you get tagged, just sail upwind after doing a defensive tag*. *Defensive tagging is to tag an enemy player you're keeping speed with just as he comes into range of your attack circle. The enemy player must then choose to either keep speed with you and engage which forces him into a very poor position on the battle map (and your prompt escape), or disengage from your circle entirely on the Overworld map. This is most effective when you're at your best point of sail (going your max MPH). Sarcasm aside, this needs to be fixed after an assets wipe to make trading worthwhile again. Maybe some API changes too to prevent people from knowing a general estimate of what each port has stockpiled/priced simultaneously at a given time.
  10. 1.5x system is terrible, I'd rather have no circle than the limitation again. If anyone in a 1st Rate fleet makes a mistake by leaving the combat results screen early, there will be nothing my comrades or I can do to help him. Countering screening fleets becomes pointless because players who seek an easy frigate kill or two won't be allowed to stack up 20v1 to clear a path for 1st Rates. Attacking seal clubbers outside your capital becomes impossible. 20v1 ganks still occur as people abuse the BR system yet again by just stacking Yachts and Cutters. There's a good chance I wouldn't even be able to help the people who get "ganked" and then clamor in this thread for BR limits. Why? So they can still be ganked by 3 Trincomalees instead of 10? The result is the same when you sail alone/unprotected and it's naive to assume anything different unless your opponents are incredibly slow in the head.
  11. If we own the land, please give us the option to transfer port (or the estates) ownership to a different player of the same faction at will.
Sir Robert Calder [ SLRN ] --- Greetings, While I fully expect to be exchanging cannonfire with you shortly once again, I must say that you all fought honorably and with great spirit at Ponce. [EDR], [ED], [CPC], and [ACR] are exemplary clans on PvP1 who have shown France's great strength and capability. I have never seen Britain work so fervently together in order to clash with your sailors, and I hope that in the future we may consider ourselves amiable to each other. I do not speak on the half of the British council, though I greatly support their desire for peace if that is their wish. If fate decides that we must be at war then let us do so, though know I would rather not sink men of France while a bigger threat looms. If peace does not interest you, know that we will never tire of you being our fated enemy, though we are always accepting of a friend. Sir Robert Calder [sLRN]
  13. Marines work wonderfully as they are now. Nearly every rank of Marines is useful. Very hard to get that kind of balance with most upgrades!
  14. Pestilent, unwanted, a plague-carrier, swears like a cutter, full as a goat, and with a coat as black as your flag. Vermin! A blight upon every sailor's deck, and even more so upon his food supply. Damnable creatures, much like the dread pirate.
  15. I genuinely wouldn't mind this in a sense if the Pirate faction didn't operate along the same lines as another national faction. Abusing that sort of knowledge for your own benefit as a player rather than to better the "Pirate Nation" sounds much more pirate-like to me. Even if all the Pirates still work together as they do now, it bothers me that there is very little incentive for Pirates to do anything other than act as a cooperative national as it is. I'd like to see Pirates care less about holding ground with ports, grinding up crafting resources and so on, and rather be rewarded handsomely for PvPing against nationals as they rightfully should. Hopefully diplomacy in the future will make each "Pirate" his own nation in a sense, with Pirate clans acting as a larger arm of that. Each individual Pirate (or his group) should decide who their personal enemies/allies are amongst the Nationals and see then where the dice rolls. There should be incentives for nationals as well to buy off Pirates or possibly hire other Nationals to attack a specific Pirate clan outside of the basic barebones structure we have now. I hope in the future the divide between "Pirate" and "National" offers a significantly different experience, in which both sides could potentially mutually benefit from one another --- so long as the Pirates are attacking a particular national's enemy. I imagine backstabs and betrayals that are so familiarized with the Pirate culture as we know it might actually happen in-game then. I'd love to see an instance where a Pirate-faction that has been known to raid Spaniards for the Brits suddenly gets an offer they can't refuse and cuts ties at a critical moment when Britain needed their support the most! All in all, I'd like to see Pirates more individualized on a diplo-mechanic level, where as nationals should be heavily encouraged to work together similar to how things are now. Pirates/Pirate clans will begin to make a name for themselves about their actions, goals, and a unique reputation with who they feign allegiance to other than themselves.
  16. Instead of a lattice, perhaps flag timers could be reduced or even halved to stop the "port hopping" that lets enemy nations wreak havoc deep within your lines unless you completely wipe them out.
  17. I was a little frustrated earlier when I posted that. The player was physically out of the port sitting on the jetty, but I didn't elaborate on that. I agree with your idea Slamz.
  18. So, great fun I had again with this awful mechanic today laid in the ring that spawns on initiated battles. After retreating from a previous 3v1 gank I repelled in my Pavel, I was beset upon again by the same hostile group as I had somewhere important to be rather than to camp in the combat results screen for thirty minutes hoping they'd go away. With only inches away from the closest friendly port I got tagged again, this time with a friendly Brit just in the harbor! Surely, I can fight these scoundrels off for good in a 3v2 situation with my superior firepower. I asked my comrade to come to my aid, he agreed, and yet he couldn't join my battle! Why? Well, the tag occurred just out of his reach, but the battle spawned a battle circle large enough to encircle his position at the port. Thus, my ally who responded within a minute of my plea for help to a battle literally outside of a friendly port, was unable to join as the battle closed before he could position his ship correctly outside of the circle due to poor wind conditions (and port position) as the wind was strongest going into the port. In the previous patch he would have been able to join my battle near instantaneously to assist, but of course this must have been a poor lack of strategical thinking on my part or a lack of reading the latest patch notes. Pardon my sarcasm, but I have been ganked 9v1 before in Naval Action and haven't felt salty in the slightest when I lost. Lesson learned: don't travel alone. Getting ganked 3v1 with allies in plain sight and they can't even get to me in time because of some arbitrary lines and limits? This is the type of garbage that genuinely makes me want to avoid PvP altogether. The reinforcement ring isn't completely a bad idea as it allows for dynamic entry to battles, but it's genuinely frustrating how much emphasis there is in this game to make sure allies can't help you unless they are literally right on top of you. "Anti-Gank Mechanic."
  19. Mate, your computer blows mine out of the water (except I have 12GB of RAM) and I run Naval Action with 60 frames in everything but maybe 25v25 1st Rate PBs. Your current GFX card may just overheat when playing NA, but hopefully it shouldn't be a problem when you get your new one.
  20. You do this community a service by posting these updates, especially since the condemnation of the National News forums. Please continue.
  21. As far as ganking goes, 3rds and higher are relatively rare. Sure you'll "win" most engagements you come across, but that doesn't mean squat if you can't catch anything except for maybe a questionable captain sailing a 1st Rate alone. -- EDIT -- If anything, I'd say a ship like the Trincomalee is almost too good and too numerous as it is in relative terms to the 3rd Rate, but that's for a different thread.
  22. -5:00 to 10:00 minute limit on after action screen for players who need a bio break, etc. after a battle. (Invisibility Timer could be increased for those who saw the battle to its complete end rather than leaving prematurely to give a chance against massive counter-ganks.) -120 second ban (separate from invuln/invis) on joining a PvP battle (PBs excluded) from those who have just left a port, just logged in, or have just left an after action screen. -Remove 1.5x BR idiocy. -Adjust battle join timer as community desires, have the ban on joining PvP battles from offline/ports/combat result screen be in accord. -Add the ability to decline attacks on NPC fleets if you're in the tag ring. (for the love of jesus please do this if nothing else) -Declining attacks on player fleets shouldn't be out of the realm of possibility, many good suggestions from players on this including the changing of the tag circle by adding secondary outer ring. Up for debate. That's pretty much the answer to every annoyance I have with PvP at the moment. Much of this comes from the simple fact that when my comrades are ganked my options are incredibly limited in countering ganks.
