NPC Port Battles Explained. War server and Peace server information

Recommended Posts

Captains

NPC have gathered all pain they experienced since launch and decided to fight back.
Here is some information on the NPC port battle raids that will help you prepare so you dont lose ports on first events.

War Server

Preparation

  1. Raiders will only attack on weekends
  2. Raiders will only attack most developed ports of top 3 nations (mix of investments and tax rate)
    1. There will be 3 NPC port attacks over weekend (1 per top nation)
  3. Raiders will ignore all other nations
  4. Raiders will only attack within the timer (if no timer is present they will attack at random time)
  5. Raiders will announce their intention with the server message (like port battles) the day before
  6. Raider attacks will be indicated on map tool in port battle list
  7. Raiders will always pick the proper wind for attack
  8. Raiders know how to fit the ships and will be very combat worthy
  9. If raiders win the battle port becomes neutral.

Battle

  1. Raider fleet usually will consist of 16-20 Lineships(escort) and 4-6 indiaman (transports) and will split into 2 groups attacking from 2 directions
  2. To win the battle raiders will need to gain 1000 points
  3. Raiders get the points by controlling the control points AND by reaching the control points
  4. Transports get A LOT of points for reaching the circle - currently 250-300
  5. Escort get some points for reaching the circle - currently 25-50
  6. All Raiders also get standard points for staying in the circle
  7. Raiders will not fire at forts
  8. Points cannot go down but you can slow down the point generation or avoid it by stopping the ships trying to reach the control points
  9. Optimal strategy in internal testing was found to be the following
    1. Destroy Indiamans as soon as possible and slow down the escorts later destroying them with focus fire one by one
    2. Create two groups (and maybe one in reserve) as if one raider group reaches the control zone intact they will win the raid
    3. Main Groups should prefer to join the raid far at sea (far from pier) because if groups join from pier they sometimes will NOT have enough time to stop the raiders from reaching the control points
      1. having said that joining from pier is also possible but not in all scenarios (depend on port)
    4. Reserve group can join from pier and provide support at danger points.
    5. Joining far at sea has risks of its own because of potential enemy screens

Defending the raids could become an interesting logistical and organizational task if enemy is present (meta)

Meta gameplay

  1. Smaller nations (especially acting together) can completely stop defenders from joining the raid by screening forcing them to lose invested ports (david vs goliaf scenarios)
  2. Smaller nations can attack other ports during the raid times and take them undefended

For Peace Server

  1. Raiders will attack random ports turning them neutral
  2. Hostility will be enabled for neutral ports so clans can capture the ports for themselves
  3. Raiders will also attack developed ports from time to time
  4. This will achieve the following amazing outcome for the Peace server
    1. Both PVE port defense and attacks become possible
    2. Port investments become possible (including port bonuses)
    3. Port clan control and taxation becomes possible

but this isn't Raid, this is port battle...raids are intended to attack a port but without changing nation owner....

and what happens if a nation attack a port same day of NPC raid? while countering PVP hostility you loose the port by NPC? will be there some time to prepare for NPC raid like PB does (1 day for setting , battle for the nex one)?

how many ports will be attacked in the same nation? ....server population isn't enougth to counter more than 1 single  20+ NPC fleet simoultaneously attacking all most developed ports inside the same nation

This sounds very good. Kind of continuous events on the Peace server.

How does the AI decide what the top nations are? Is it based on PvP activity and leader-boards? Number of ports? Population? Will nations like GB, which is largely irrelevant in RvR get hit, because they have a lot of dots? Will the Pirates be targeted because of the high player count, even though they have relatively few ports?

And since this is RvR, will players be able to capture the AI ships in the pb?

One question...

Do Raiders abide by front-line mechanics and only attack capitals? Or is any port on the map capable of being attacked?

Raiders will attack most developed ports of top 3 nations.
This means they wont use any frontline mechanics

@adminI dont like this simply because this is not PVP raids, but I'm excited to test new PB battle mechanic.
However my VERY strong suggestion will be that you first try this on NPC attacking SMALL ports that are satellites of the 55 point ports. Reason behind that is that your mechanic was never tested. It will be buggy. It will need balancing. Players loosing 55 port with full bonuses investments due to a bug or a bad mechanic gonna cost you and us more players getting pissed off and leave.
Lets test on smaller towns first
