  1. My bold emphasis above. Yes, unfortunately there is the risk of that when allowing people the ability to name naval vessels: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/22/world/europe/boaty-mcboatface-what-you-get-when-you-let-the-internet-decide.html?_r=0
  2. I think a clan pennant, or some sort of flag (in addition to not in place of the national flag) would be a great touch. And I understand that this would be a lower priority. But you could incorporate it into an additional (DLC) sort of shop that could generate additional money for the game developers/development. These flags/pennants would do nothing at all to affect ship characteristics, just a nice touch and a source of income. Win-win.
  3. Looks like Compass wood is still required for any ship better than Basic if you are going for the "Build Strength" or "Stiffness" traits. And the Fine goods (Fine woods and other fine goods) can be sold in the shops for a good price.
  4. Steam shows me a 123.9 MB update. Checking for patch notes but see nothing so far.
  5. Did someone record a video of this PB and Gorven's fireship? From this day forward Gorven and his ship shall be known as the "new and improved Gorven manuever".
  6. So rather than taking something that needs a bit of tweaking to fix it, we should get rid of port battles? IMHO, what has happened sometimes in the past is when something was slightly broken, and could maybe be fixed with some minor tweaking, the developers instead go from one extreme to the other. So now the OP suggests that we eliminate port battles altogether. Yet another instance of going from one extreme to the next. Not a solution IMHO.

    Patch day?

My bold emphasis above. Regarding the bolded portion of Tommy's comment I offer this:
  8. Pixilated widows and orphans grieve.
  9. Home ---->Ultimate General---->Ultimate General: Civil War--->General Discussion--->New patch incoming
  10. From the US side of things I agree it was a fun battle. (as well as for the British that participated as well). After the first 2-3 ,minutes we did charge the Danish fleet. And yes, after the Danish 25 slots filled, we did eventually pull back to the protection of the towers at times. The goal of the US (and allies) was to defend the port from conquest, and using the protection of the towers at times contributed towards us accomplishing that goal. Thank you all (US, British, and Danes as well) for coming out. The driftwood from all the wrecked ships will help feed our fireplaces for much of the winter.
  11. That could work also, but I would limit the visibility of these auctions/contracts to one port. You should not be able to put up such an auction/contract from where you are in a port, and have that seen by players in every port from the Windward Islands to Texas, from Bermuda to The Yucatán. That would be unrealistic during the time period of this game.
  12. At the moment, yes, both alliances have access to a Live Oak production source. But for more than a week, the British/Dutch/US alliance was without a Live Oak production source.
  13. This concept I could see working in the following manner: I could place a contact in a (that is one port) for a ship, and a price that I would be willing to pay for it. My contract could list the specific traits that I want in the ship (ex. 1 Live Oak, Build Strength Constitution of exceptional quality with 3 permanent and 5 upgrade slots. And that I would be willing to pay 3 million gold for said ship). Ship crafters could see my contract, and then decide if they desired to craft such a ship for the agreed price. By implication, ship crafters could see my purchase contract and then PM me directly if they were interested in making a counter offer to me (for example, crafting the ship but for a different price).
  14. Regarding AFK protection: No, just no. If you sail AFK, you knowingly place the safety of your ship in jeopardy. If you sail AFK and get jumped, then there is no one to blame but yourself. If you want to go AFK without the possibility that someone can jump your ship, then open a character on the PVE server. There you can sail AFK for as long as you want to and not have to worry about someone attacking you. Regarding an "auction house", such a thing already exists. It's called the "Ship" market and there is one in every port in the game. National capital ports tend to have the most ships for sale, including 'rare' ones.
  15. People moaning about prizes only going to the top 10. Everyone happy now?
  16. Dear Mr. Admin, I like the concept. It is now up to us the players, to test it it out, see what works, and what does not work. And if there are exploits, to discover and expose them for further fine tuning.
  17. My bold emphasis above. Shipyards are no longer in the game. They were eliminated (in I believe) the last patch.
  18. Very well. Go ahead and do it or even one up it. Perhaps then the developers will finally see the absurdity of being able to run hostility from 0 to 100% in moments. I can see the point of War supplies contributing towards hostility. I think the ability to drive hostility from 0 to 100% at one fell swoop by using War Supplies is extreme. Abuse the mechanic to the point of absurdity until it is finally fixed
  19. IMHO: For the United States nation, the port battle at Savannah was a tactical defeat. However yesterday's port battles on the US East Coast were a strategic victory for the British/Dutch/United States alliance. Due to the game mechanic, there are only 2 ports that can produce Fine Live Oak. We were sorely missing a source of Live Oak production (FIne Live Oak specifically), And through the PB victory at San Augustin, the British/Dutch/United States alliance now has a Live Oak production source. I give credit to the British/Dutch/USA alliance for pulling off a simultaneous War Supplies drop (lets call it "Testing the ability for simultaneous War Supplies bombs" ) , and for recovering one of the Live Oak production ports. I give the Danish/Norge & Spanish nations (and their allies--Sweden I believe) credit for waking up in the middle of the night and putting on full defenses. And now, on to more testing the limits of this game as it winds on down the road towards completion and full release.
  20. As to your first paragraph, I am one of the players occasionally sailing around in the Bahamas in heavy rattlesnake groups. (On PvP 1) We (or at least the groups that I have sailed with) are not there to go seal clubbing rookie noobs. We monitor the hostility levels in the Bahamas counties held by the United States (and when in alliance those counties held by our British allies). When we see the hostility start to go up, we pull War Combat fleet orders as anti-hostility missions. We will then sail around doing those missions against AI's in order to drive the hostility level down. If we see a player trader, we may chase them but generally those are not low ranked players, rather they are more experienced players sailing around in smuggler flagged traders farming resources. Why even bother chasing a single low ranked noob in a basic cutter/cutter? With regards to your 2nd paragraph, the Pacific zone is there. Perhaps the Devs could designate that as the Rookie zone. New players could play there up to a certain rank, then would be forced to migrate (with redeemables for whatever ships/gold/resources they managed to get while in the rookie zone) to the main area of the map.
  21. You can pull War Combat orders, thereby instantly creating NPC fleets for you to attack and either generate or mitigate hostility. (At least that is my understanding. I am in the US nation and not a pirate. I presume that pirates can pull War Combat orders? Please correct me if I am mistaken about that).
  22. It is my impression that Denmark could not trigger the Savannah PB as it already had 2 PB. One PB however was already underway. As soon as that port battle ended, the one against Savannah was triggered. You have your port battle for Savannah scheduled.
  23. As much as I would enjoy the convenience of being able to have deliveries between ALL my outposts (national outposts included), I would be against this ideas as it would dramatically reduce the volume of player trader traffic in Open World. It would all but kill the game for the Pagan Pete's (pirates and privateers) of the world. I think that the current system of deliveries between Free Towns only is a good balance.
  24. I like the current political scheme for the most part. One minor irritant (which may or may not have been fixed in the latest patch, I am not sure) is the cool down period. On PvP 1 EU, the United States nation is allied with the British and the Dutch. There have been times (pre-patch) where the remaining days with the British were 3 days, and 6 days for the Dutch, yet during that voting round the US was unable to vote to renew the alliance with the British, with the result that the US-British alliance expired, and we then had to wait one election cycle before we could vote to renew the alliance with GB. This lapse in alliance would make things particularly inconvenient if you had production buildings and/or warships in a British port. If this can (or already) be addressed I think it would be a good improvement.
  25. If a player is in an AI ship, then they have no skin in the game. They can be as risky/foolish as they want as they have no ship/mods/officer lives to lose. I would not like this change to the game.
