  1. Historically, it would be appropriate to have whaling ships and whaling resources (whale oil, etc) included in the game. I can understand though that the developers might be hesistant about doing this (from an optics standpoint). As mentioned above by Bach, it's not politically correct. After all, it is my understanding that they have made the decision not to include anything to do with the slave trade, even though this would also be historically accurate. It just does not look good from an optics standpoint. Also, who knows, adding whaling into the game could generate yet another pirate clan:
  2. Thank your for your interest in The Decatur Armada (TDA). TDA has a website here: http://decaturarmada.enjin.com/ You can read more about our organization there and fill out an application. PS: Kudos on necromancing this year and a half old thread.
  3. Interesting idea about the "training" hours being used against your labor hours (or at least that is what I presume that you mean). Right now a player has a set number of hours and they are used for drawing resources from buildings as well as for crafting things. My concern with this would be that it would take away from that player's ability to harvest resources from buildings and/or cut into their ability to craft ships and/or components for shipbuilders (in their clan for example) if they now have to use some of those same hours for this "training" that you refer to. It would make things for a non-clan/independent player even more difficult if they have to divide their limited hours between harvesting production, ship building and now also crew training. They would probably be driven to simply being one thing in the game (a professional sailor, a resources harvester, or a shipbuilder). They would never have enough hours with which to be a "generalist" and do a little bit of everything. I am personally already running up against situations where I do not have enough hours left to pull resources out of buildings if I am also crafting things for the clan's shipbuilders (things like notes, gun carriages, ballast, etc). Also if the player were to take a hiatus for a few days (real life intrudes) then they would come back to find their mastercraft marines are now gray. That would simply suck.
  4. So people can craft moduiles for objects such as copper plating, reinfiorced masts, etc. but you cannot craft modules for "humans" such as Marines, Powder Monkeys, Gunnery Handbooks, Swordfighting handbooks, etc. And I understand perhaps the reasoning behind this (You can "build" obejcts but you cannot "build" people). So what is a possible solution for this? We can build production buildings for resources (gold, iron ore, Live Oak, etc). What are people's thoughts on the idea of being able to build (as one of your 5 alloted Buildings) a "Naval Academy"? At this Naval Academy you would be able to essentially 'craft' the human component modules that I decribed above. (or produce another "note" type thing that would be used to build a human-component module). Addiitionally, if/when the "Officers" slots are introduced then perhaps these Naval Academies could somehow play into that as well. (If this has already been suggested by someone then I apoligize in advance for the redundency of this post)
  5. Agreed about the clan bank. A clan warehouse for gathered resources/shipbuilding materials would be a very close (probably equal) second. And IIRC there have been previous threads on this topic so if my comments are duplicative, then I aplogize.
  6. Welcome to PvP1 I see that members of your clan have already shed (pixelated) blood with other PvP1 American players in the defense of United States ports. Thank you for this. I look forward to sailing together with your members in the defense of the United States.
  7. As a member of the American fleet that fought you outside Corrientes I can say that was a very intense battle. There were 12 (human) American players (and only 2 of us were 3rd rates). You Spanish fought well and it was fun battling against you.
  8. A squadron of The Decatur Armada was operating off the northerm coast of Cuba when it intercepted a Pirate 3rd Rate ship that was likely on its way to participate in the Pirate assault against the British port of Corrientes. Things didn't end well for this pirate:
  9. Last night I was sitting in a Basic Cutter just outside the port of Key West. Numerous Espana players in small ships (basic cutters and traders) slowly approached the port. I would turn my ship to face them (but did not move towards them). Sometimes they would hesitate a moment and circle around, then leave. Other times they hesitated, then came ahead into port. One Espana player popped out of port in a much larger ship and was next to mine. I start chatting him up in PM as it was raining at the time. We chatted about trivial things (the weather at Key West, the weather at our own (real life locations) etc. As we did several high ranking Espana players (including Papa Bear) sailed into the port in their basic cutters and traders. Finally, the Espana player I was chatting with popped back into port. A short while later, the two players came out of port, one was Papa Bear and the other the Espana player that I had been chatting with earlier, only this time his ship was identified as "Pirate" and not "Espana". I asked him about that and he essentially confirmed that he was now a Pirate and sailed away.
  10. Huzzah for the United States! Huzzah for the American Council!
  11. Welcome. Which server is your clan playing on?
  12. I voted for subforums for national news and clans by the server it is on. Too often threads are confusing as the original poster fails to identfy the server that they are posting in regards to. That said, (and slightly off topic) I do think that it would be an improvement to eventually merge all the servers into one. Such a merger does not have to be immediate. Let the developers do it gradually so as to work out any potential glitches. Perhaps they can do it in stages----merge only one server into one other server---see how that goes, get any kinks worked out, then merge another server together. Lather, rinse, repeat.
  13. I second this (My Bold highlighted above) Look at Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World . Down the eastern coast of South America; around Cape Horn; then up the western coast of South America and the Galopagos Islands. Open up the Indian Ocean and then someone is bound to create the British East India Company. Bring on a new class of ships----the East India (armed) merchant ships. The possibilities are endless
  14. In August? Do you want to kill the poor man from Ukraine? ;-) [i have lived in Tampa for 15 years now, originally having moved here from Chicago. I have yet to fully adjust to the unbearably humid summer months). Tampa does celebrate its own "Pirate festival every year. It's called the Gasparilla Pirate Festival and it runs at the end of January/beginning of February every year. There is even a Gasparilla Pirate Ship that is part of the festivities. (It's actually more of a barge made up to look like a pirate ship).
  15. My bold emphasis above. I think that you idea has some merit. I previously used to play a free online game called "Airline Empires" It's an airline simulation game. The aspect of that game relevant to your suggestion is this: In Airline Empires, the developers set up "World Resets" which generally last for a simulated 30 year period. In each 30 year period you start out your airline with one leased plane, one ariline base/airport and some seed money. You can then build up your airline to add more planes, fly to more destinations, increase your passenger volume, and build up your profits. In Airline Empires a simulated month lasts for 8 real time hours; a simulated year lasts 4 real time days, and the 30 year "world" will run for roughly 4 real time months. At the end of the 4 months (simulated 30 year period) the world resets and you can start all over again. Each "World" may have slightly different parameters to it (ownership of planes only vs leasing, national restrictions as to airline expansion, etc). Now I am not saying that Naval Action must be set up exactly the same way. For Naval Action you could adjust the speed of "simulated time" to something else more appropriate. But, perhaps sort of in line with what Sharp suggested, they could set up different worlds, with a prior specficied time duration, and at the end of that time period, the nation that conquered the most ports "wins the map". Now I understand that some (or many) NA players may not be in favor of an idea such as this. So my suggestion for that would be to set up this concept, on a test basis, on one server only (and a new server at that for those that do not wish their current "world" to be turned upside down). Run such a world on a test basis. See if it works. If people like it, then you can set up more "worlds", some of which may run concurrently and may overlap each other. If only some players like this idea, then let the "World Reset" concept run on the one server only.
