  1. Puchu, I understand that you are entusiastic about reasonably balanced PVP. Sounds like you are pretty skilled at it and your posts have tweaked my interest in some battles with other players. I'm willing to give it a try. Open minded. Perhaps missions are for people that want missions, regardless of how much time they have. Some players may not be in a hurry. They may be content to play a few missions for a few hours a couple times per week. Or play a bunch of mission for the whole afternoon once a week. After a year or so of this they might get bored and seek something more challenging. If we force people into specific gamemodes they may be turned off because of the limited choice and freedom. There are a lot of reasons to enjoy NA and imposing more restrictions is less likely to push people into PVP and more likely to make them just avoid playing. Taking away more of the game elements that players enjoy is not likely to guide them towards other styles of play. But it may frustrate them. If people are having fun in there own way don't be too sure that if you take the fun away they will stay and participate in a forced mode. Perhaps look for ways to entice people positively. Post up a date, time and location for some scheduled PVP. If it's successful it might generate interest. Heck I'll show up and have at it.
  2. Greetings and a hearty welcome back, Admiral. Edit: Belated happy 53rd, good sir.
  3. Thank you Mr. Spivey, Is there a chance you might have a link to our "fighting instructions"?
  4. Although I can't be certain, it seems that multiple characters are currently allowed per account. I've PM'd the Admin but not received a reply. A moderator has offered that I should be fine deleting an alternate character. It seems that we may be able to have alternate characters on the same account provided they are on different servers. But don't take my word for it. I'm not sure. http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/11181-does-pve-and-pvp-carry-over-between/
  5. Ah for a virtual world with prevailing winds and variation. Ship damage from storms and running aground. Sweetly enticing. We can only dream. Sigh ...
  6. A sincere thanks to Admin. It is very helpful to have these few examples of ban worthy language. There are is a wide variation of what is considered forbidden. Depends on your cultural background. NA has specific boundaries that players may not be aware of. You referenced some material in the first post. Would be handy if there were links there .... "fighting instructions" "list of allowed curses that are okay". i did a search of the forums and couldn't find either. This is not sarcasm.
  7. It seems reasonable to have a cost for a spyglasses and even provide improved levels of quality for more gold. But please, please, don't limit spy glass quality to XP or rank. It would be most unfortunate to be forced to grind our way through hours of combat for the sole purpose of obtaining a spyglass when all we ever to aspire to be is a trader or an explorer, sailing a small ship. It is fine to limit the larger ships to players who have ranked up, but a decent spyglass should be accessible to anyone who can afford it. They should not be the special property of the elite higher level players. A spyglass should also be part of the loot of a captured vessel if the defeated player had one on board.
  8. Spyglass would be great ... But with some type of national identifier (static flag, paint, colour) on ships. The national identification could be used for determining friend or foe of a ship and it could be seen with the UI off. Gun ports are okay open or closed. Not important. At least not until the bouyancy is fixed.
  9. What does this have to do with stockpiles ? Would you not have a bigger problem with 500 players with single third rates verses 25 players owning 20 third rates? I fail to see how the ships per player is at issue. Is not really just imbalance between nations?
  10. This makes much more sense. Do we really want rich players to have super ships with 10 durabilities?
  11. You can imagine that he was a nasty fellow who chose to sacrifice it all (ship, cargo, crew) rather than giving you the satisfaction of capturing his ship. He skuttled it.

    The Wipe IRL

Wow. This game just keeps getting more realistic all the time. On levels that I was unaware of.
  13. I like fog. And rain. And storms. And sunny blue sky days. Variety is interesting. I wish it would get dark on moonless nights though. Sigh. Don't know what the Caribbean is like in real life but I hear that air pollution has resulted in a haze the world over that just wasn't there even 50 years ago. Wonder if there was better visibility in the 1700s.
  14. Can't help you find the files. Sorry, don't know myself. But hope you are successful. And can I please encourage you to create a compass that will allow us to take a sighting (bearing shot). Something that we can aim to determine the direction to objects (landmarks, ships ...). This would be of great assistance in determining our position, by triangulation. It would be nice if an improved compass provided more than only the heading. I would love to use a compass with the UI turned off, that is toggled on a keybinding.
  15. Seems that I get a message about getting kicked for inactivity after 20 min of no input. Two questions. And please don't pour the hate at me for asking: 1) Is the AFK timer set for 20min? 2) Can the Devs respond and offer any hope that it might be possible to sail long distances without being kicked for inactivity? Perhaps code to check if the ship is moving somewhere, rather than circling or at anchor? I'm really going to make my self a target for ridicule and disgust but .... if I'm sailing dead slow (so my ship doesn't feel like a speed boat) I could be kicked two times just traveling the length of Jamaica. Or If I try a medium long voyage (below) from Kingston/Port Royal to St. George's at battle speed (Avg 5Kn) I'll get kicked 19 times. I'm not asking anyone else to change their game. I understand that we need some measure to prevent players from going AFK and leaving the game on just to hold their place in the server. I used a server that was low population and still got kicked. No one else needed my spot. I was engaged with the game. I don't expect anyone to understand wanting to sail in a manner that doesn't feel like a speedboat. But I don't think many people would abuse a system that allowed a player to stay in game as long as they were moving. There may be a few but no so many that it would have much affect. On short voyages I'm usually busy with each leg and provide lots of input. But on longer journeys it would be nice to be able to stay in game without wiggling the mouse every 20 minutes. I see the need to prevent players from sitting idle, but is there any way the game could check to see if the ship is moving rather than just checking for keyboard or mouse input?
  16. I would love to have whaling in game. But do not underestimate the collective power of anti-whaling lobbyists. The question has nothing to do with the morality of killing. It is simply unneccessary for the Devs to start a fight that is so hot and emotional. Did I mention that I would love to have whaling in game. I've asked for it previously. But I respect the Devs position.
  17. I really like the Lynx. It's very fast, especially close hauled. I prefer the Lynx to a trader Lynx. Finally found one for sale in George Town for a decent price. So I bought it. Happy sailing now . What are the boarding bonuses?
  18. Nice to know you are out and about. I've missed your input on the forums. Excellent communication.
  19. I can only see my own pins. Can't seem to erase them. Can't filter for server.
  20. We are attempting to explore some friendly suggestions ... it's unnecessary to be offensive .
  21. Tend to agree with maturin and ObiQuite. Skuttling would have been most likely in shallow water or when the crew could be assured they would be rescued from drowning, albeit prisoners. It is mostly the mechanics of the game that makes sinking our own ship (to deny the enemy) so appealing. Not so much the historical accuracy. I understand that lots of sailors could not swim, many enjoyed a frolic in the warm Caribbean on a hot day but only within the shallow pool created by a sail that was rigged for wading. It would have been terrifying to be on a quickly sinking ship if you were unable to swim.
  22. Sounds like a good tactic. As an option to deny your ship to the enemy. Sounds more gamey to be forced to give your ship away. This way we have a choice. "An act of self-destruction to prevent the ship from being captured by an enemy force." https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scuttling On a separate topic I would like have to other options available to the victor with surrender. As AKD says, a meaningful surrender system. Perhaps options to relieve the captured ship of its cargo and let it continue. Or allow the ship to leave with cargo. Provide small XP to the victor for the first successful detention.
  23. Well . You could wait for the Devs to create a mini-game or an arena where players could duel. Or you could just post up a notice. PVP2 server - Single player PVP - Sat Feb 13 at 1800z - Port Plymouth - fight one on one for high XP. Could be the start of something for all you single player PVP fans. I'm personally not interested in that style of combat and I promise I'll stay away and won't bother you people.
