  1. My sincere apologies for what ever I have done to offend you. I have removed the reference to Taber Alberta and the recent law regading swearing . I ment it only in it reference to the prohibition to profanity not the content of liberty. I do not understand what rules I have contravened in my post. The previous discussion ( as referenced in my post above) seem to illuminate the rules here. I am out of my depth and thoroughly confused .
  2. Seems like the focus here is on swearing and text content but rather ignores the actions that precipitate it. I was concerned with my initial engagements and the reaction from some fellow players. My concern was not so much with their language but that my actions were unacceptable and deserving of the anger focused on me. The interaction between players in a passionate community may generate some emotion. The first question that might be asked is the an emotional response warranted. We might expect that if a player started deliberately ramming teammates the text responses probably will be critical and insulting and terms like “stupid”or “careless” or “idiot” may be founded and appropriate when describing the offender’s actions. Additionally, if I see a racist reference I will happily ignore any and all insults and profanity directed at the offender. I was relieved to learn that other actions in game are acceptable to the majority even though these same actions cause other players to become angry. Actions like; kiting, storm quitting and poor positioning are all perfectly acceptable but may generate some insulting texting from opinionated players who think that such actions are universally negative. Those opinionated players are simply attempting to modify what they mistakenly believe is poor unsportsmanlike gameplay. http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/4438-did-i-do-it-wrong/ Any reasonable person understands that RL threats and discrimination must never be tolerated. Well intentioned criticism can often be interpreted as an insult. A greater clarity of what is acceptable in terms of gameplay will help me to be unaffected by a confused player who misunderstands our standards and thinks he has been assaulted by my actions. The insults are connected to the action that generated it. Often acceptable actions are not common sense. We are not born understanding the dos and don’ts of etiquette. It is learned behavior. Clearly describing unacceptable gameplay is helpful to reduce the incidents of toxic behavior and insulate the effects of it. Is the the swearing toxic? Meh…. It’s the emotion and bad will behind it that does the harm. Focus on a the choice of words for a gameplay standard rather than the language used in the heat of battle.

    Black Sails

Not really looking for violence. Street fights, murders, porn, ... I was hoping for some naval action. Sailing. Ships. The first 5 minutes was really cool ... is there some of that later? Perhaps in episode 5 (Season 1). I think I'll watch and see. EDIT: Saw some good sea scenes in episode 5. Enough time at sea to keep watching a couple more shows ...
  5. I have a few battles under my keel. But there seems to be a lot of negativity festering in this community. I've never disconnected during a battle but was rammed once by a bigger vessel. I said sorry for my poor seamanship but I don't think the apology was accepted. Also I must have been out of position once because a larger friendly was shooting through my sails. I was fleeing initially when I was outnumbered but from the text messages it appeared that action was inflaming my opponents. After reading the forums I'm getting the sense that I may be inadvertently offending people so have just confined my self to the PVE theatre. Not sure if I should just avoid others or stay close but out of everyone's way. Is kiting acceptable in the battle testing? Am I creating a bad reputation for myself if I "steal kills"? When I bought the game I didn't have any idea of the intense desire to win that motivates many of the players. There is just so much hate. So respectfully and sincerely I ask for some guidance: 1) is there a reference to some sort of detailed code of conduct? (Or is Naval-Action-good-sportsmanship considered "common sense" that everyone must be born with?) 2) Will it be possible to play the game in open world moderately? Or is a attitude (or understanding) of MMO competitiveness required to avoid igniting the anger of many people here?

    Black Sails

Good to know. I've watched 4 episodes now and I'm getting pretty bored waiting for something to happen. I keep telling myself that the show is developing the plot and building the characters. Thanks for the encouragement. Was starting to think I have been just wasting time.

    Black Sails

I've watched 2 episodes and gotta say its pretty much of a soap opera. Not a lot of naval action or seamanship so far. Does it get better?
