  1. I'd be interested to see the modified oath ... ...for those of us who enjoy all of the servers.
  2. Three servers and three news feeds - sounds good. Voted no to split 3 servers into 2 national news sources. Some may argue that PvE doesn't count but it would be cleaner to have a thread for the news of each server.
  3. I would like to experience a greater wind effect in BOTH battles and OW. Wouldn't care if the wind did not affect high speeds ships in OW. Might even be better as it would provide an option for those who prefer to go fast in OW and have the wind make little or no difference. Regardless if the game ever employs more tactical wind that will exert detailed aerodynamic force on the direction of travel, adding damage from wind, waves and shore would be a huge improvement.
  4. This would be a significant change to the game. Implemented in OW it may increase the skill required to sail slowly. At least at low speeds Navigation would involve more thought that just setting a heading and waiting. At high speed I doubt it would make any difference. the yaw angle would be negligible because the wind effect would likely be cancelled out at the extreme speeds we can attain. Imagine how much effect the wind has on a speedboat. Unless the wind effect was increased relative to a increase in speed to model the net effect as if the ship was NOT rocketing along like a stone skipping across the waves.
  5. Do you really think that a player on PvE will continue to sail around as prey if he is forced to play on a server that he hates? I suspect that PvEers would just quit. Those that like both servers are probably playing on both already. And suppose all the rejected PvEers simply allowed us to force them to play, would an extra 50 prey really make that much difference. With many of them crafting or in port checking prices you might have 20 players spread over the whole sea. I doubt anyone would notice. Seems like we would be smarter to allow them the style of gaming they enjoy. The good will might attract more potential new players as prey. If players try NA for the PvE they may stay for the PvP.
  6. Actually the developers have restored the ability to position yourself on deck or climb into the rigging. It's great. We still cannot control the ship movement from this view but I'm hopeful that that feature will be added.
  7. Great news. Proves that the Devs listen the input that players provide. The comments that were provided by the PvEers in other recent threads have kindled my interest in using my character on the PvE server. Seems like a welcoming community. I usually play on the PvP servers and enjoy gameplay there. I seldom fight but enjoy trading. The risk of attack adds to the excitement. But it doesn't bother me knowing that others are using a different server. I don't really understand the full reasoning for hating a PvE server. Is it truly just the expenditure of development time that could be used for developing the PvP servers? Surely the critics can't dislike those players that want to have fun with a different style of gameplay in a separate location. I can't seem to understand how the actions on the PvE server affect the PvP server. Is it because the PvPers criticized the PvP players, when faced with the threat of having their server removed? Surely players are not assuming that if the PvE server was closed that most of those players would have migrated to a PvP server. It seems highly improbable that closing the PvE server would have increased the population of PvP significantly. Looking at the bigger picture this was a great decision. Shows that the Devs are responsive and care about the whole community. Encourages new players to try the game who may be attracted to the PvE charm. Allow new players a transition opportunity to get used to trading, crafting and game mechanics in safe environment. Appears to be a big win. For the dedicated warriors that are seeking other players to battle with ... just pretend the PvEers don't exist. It will be a little easier if they are confined to a separate world rather than next door in the Gulf of Mexico. Lt Macjim (Ret) CB
  8. It really shouldn't be a big problem. If we get thousands of players active again we could create more servers. Farrago, I'm not sure why you would want to prevent the peaceful coexistence of PvP and PvE players on the same server. I envision that there may be about 400 players on the servers about 50 or so seeking PvE (Average numbers). The 350 PvP players can fight among themselves and the 50 PvEers can seek enjoyment doing other things. Sounds like an okay arrangement. The alternative is to force the 50 PvPers into a style of game play they don't like and they will probably quit. If you remove the opportunity for a peaceful coexistance you will likely be left with 350 PvP players alone on the servers, the PvPers will be gone. Rebel Witch has it correct. Boxing people into PvP style when they prefer to enjoy the game differently will likely fail. Removing the fun people have with PvE doesn't guarantee they will hold their noses and stay to battle the PvP players.
  9. Old Question - unanswered: three nations will have 2 spawns - main pvp and secondary pve. Can the Devs elaborate on these spawns? Explain: Does the character differ between spawns? If so is a player limited to PvE or PvP character based on the initial choice? Or is it simply a different spawn location? New question: Will the 5 minute rush timer to hurry out of the battle ending screen be forced onto players in PvE area? Or will PvE players be allowed to leave the battle ending screen leisurely because there is no good reason to impose a limit and make them leave quickly?
  10. Players who will want to engage in PVE activities without any interaction with the outside world will have to choose one of 3 nations.. These three nations will have 2 spawns - main pvp and secondary pve. Can the Devs elaborate on the spawns? Explain: Does the character differ between spawns? If so is a player limited to PvE or PvP character based on the initial choice? Or is it simply different spawn locations?
  11. All Ships become have 1 durabilty as it should have been from the start I'm not sure what the above means. Does this mean that all ships will be destroyed forever when they are sunk? A ship captured is not available to the person who loses it? Or can a ship be destroyed once or captured once and still respawn for it's owner? Not trying to be obtuse. But the wording is confusing perhaps it is partly the wording "become have'. If the ships are actually destroyed it would be great. There were elaborate discussions about this when I first started playing. RamJB was a huge advocate.
  12. "1. Flags have to be added into OW. That would require using spyglass from distance to see under which flag the vessel is sailing. " I spend most of the time in OW with the UI off. It would be more than fantastic if all ships had national identifiers (flags, paint) so they can be recognized with a spyglass. The identifier could be static (to reduce load on data transfer). Seeing the ships heading, or a popup compass is a bit too gamey for me. I would rather make the assessment of its heading by my own observations. Like wise the digital readout of the distance, speed and upgrades is just excessive. At the basic minimum it would be utterly wonderful if we were able recognize the origin of ship from it's static flag or national paint scheme. But if we were to entertain complexities. Perhaps we could hire an experienced officer with perks then could receive info about the ship and it's captain. Even a estimate from the officer of the ship's speed and heading. Especially if all this info was not always 100% reliable. Also this might be an easy place to convey a signal that ship would be hoisting. Whatever is done it should be optional. Players should have the ability to turn it off. Or best if it would display on a toggled keybind.
  13. I wouldn't want see an additional requirement imposed on those who really hate this kind of stuff. But. Perhaps there is a way to make this optional. Currently players are not required to complete a mission but if they choose to do so, they receive gold and XP. Maybe there is a way to allow a player the choice to add provisions without forcing other to use it also. Personally I would be very enthusiastic to toggle on a feature that allowed my crew to consume provisions and entitled me to extra reward for the increased risk. Perhaps add sickness and crew loss too. If it was optional then those players who don't want to bothered with it (boring, annoying, too complicated) do not have to deal with it. The players who choose to enjoy the added feature would be the only ones who have to click an extra button. But alas ... it has nothing to do with fighting, so is a very low priority and unlikely to be considered seriously. I would vote yes if it was added as a option.
  14. Me too. But with multiplayer. This was suggested a long time ago but the response was that it would be bad for the devs because players would have access to the source code, and somehow that is a problem. I have no idea if single/multi player would pose any threat to the game. So many other games allow single/multi player. A mutliplayer/singleplayer version would open up huge possibilities, Mods, time compression, massive improvements to Open World (currents, variable winds, identifying flags, ship damage from weather, running aground, collisions, etc.) Think of all of the features that are not feasible because of the limitations created when a couple thousand players are simultaneously accessing the same material Such additional content would appeal to a larger audience without removing the current features that the MMO lovers like. An MMO version and a multiplayer version would be great.
  15. To everyone who has been supporting my little trading company. We spent several weeks at Savanna la Mar. Each day reviewing and judging the markets and trying to determine a decent cargo for our run to the west. Eventually we made the trip under clear skies. We were happy to see lots of British ships off the west coast of the main island. Cheers to everyone who patrols Jamaica. Soon we were all alone on the open water with no land in sight. I’m starting to like it out there where we can see so far. This ship (The Little Tuck) is really fast. We arrived in Cayman Brac, sold our cargo and established an outpost. Here they love Caribbean Goods and in La Navasse they like Pirate Goods. I made 4 delivery orders from here to Navasse and am eager to find out if they survived the trip and what the profit will be. I've had lots of people give me advice about how to make the deliveries work and I have my fingers crossed I was successful. Should know when I reach La Navasse in a couple weeks. If they worked well I’ll set up some deliveries (of Caribbean Goods) back to the Caymans. If they didn't work I've squandered a huge part of my net worth. I have also received a letter from The British R. Admiral Young encouraging me to sail soon to Castries. He says there is lots of action there as it is close to the front. I’m not sure why he thinks that a simple trader like myself would want to be near action. It sounds dangerous and risky. But the crew are all excited and think we should go. It is a long trip from La Navasse to Castries. Two weeks unbroken sailing on one straight heading. Much longer if we have to run from hostile foe. On the way we can stop at the local ports and clean up my outstanding contracts. Who knows when we will be back this way.
  16. There are lots of really great tips here. Cheers all. Appreciate the info on delivery missions. I've considered them immersive and had a interest in doing one someday. But I was told that using deliveries between free towns can be lucrative. Don't quite get how the mechanics of deliveries can be so helpful.
  17. Thanks for the advice. Any more specifics on: Delivery orders between free towns.
  18. After my encounter with the pirate B Morgan on the south coast of Jamaica I received unexpected gifts from strangers. Ships, gold and advice. The world of NA is full of helpful personalities (including Morgan). I leased a Cutter at Port Morant and sailed east to a mysterious island and the free port of La Navasse. There a wealthy Mr. White gave me a Trader Lynx. Before the permit and warehouse construction was complete on my new outpost I opened a letter from R. Admiral Tuck (Alias Tuck’s Slave) and sailed the Cutter back to Port Royal where Tuck built me another Trader Lynx and showed me how the craft Iron Fittings from ingots. He also gave me gold and explained to how me make money with labor in the port markets. Now I have two durable Trader Lynx. One in La Navasse and one here with me in Savanna la Mar. I intend to sail to Cayman Brac and set up an outpost to further trade between there and La Navasse. So I'm looking for advice on the best way to do that.
  19. I heard some helpful instructions and pieces of info over the last weeks but am still trying to sew it together. Delivery orders between free towns. Buying cheap iron and coal and selling Iron Ingots VS buying Ingots and forging Fittings. What to do? Where? Any tips? Ideas?
  20. Variety is the spice. I wouldn't like open world as much if everywhere I went the sea was filled with ships. There is certain appeal to having some open ocean here and there. It is more interesting after on long leg far away from land to see a occasional ship. I find that I see a lot more ships close to shore and even more closer to ports. To me too much of something creates boredom. There an appeal to scarcity. I really wouldn't want to see ships in every direction everywhere in NA. I hope we keep it this way ... so if I am off of the trade routes it seems a little lonely. BUT ...Perhaps it is possible to populate certain areas with more ships. Not evenly distributed. So those who like heavy traffic can find it. And those who choose to slip by unnoticed have half a chance to do that too.
  21. I keep a log for each server. I always enjoyed it and find I'm very busy while sailing. Making notations in the log while navigating all while constantly scanning for foe. I also file a very simple course plan before the journey and plot a route with waypoints and estimated speeds, distances and times. I used to use a handwritten log but find that Google docs works well. Either method works because I can maintain a lookout or watch because the log is on a separate monitor or book on my desk. 7 Jan - Petro Cay - Port Royal - Port Morant - Port Royal 03:39rt PVP1 292 players In port Pedro Cay Bought Tobacco x 229 ($54) = $12,366 - Price jumped to $100/t with 11,530t left in port Oak Log x 800 ($85ea) = $68,000 [2000t] Sell Fish meat x 24 ($31) = 744 Contract Buy Tobacco x 40 ($40) = $1600 [+$80] Oak log x 40 ($50) = 2000 [+100] Balance $88,942 Trade run - return leg from Pedro Cay to Kingston Day 1 0700hr 04:13rt W b Leave port 10:15hr 04:16rt N b 8-9Kn w-WbS Course correction to clear west pt 3 Brit ships in area Wx fair clear 13:00hr 04:18rt NbE-NNE b 6-7kn w WSW Course - heading to Port Royal Est time 15 min Wx - fair 21:10 04:25rt NNE b 6Kn w-S Course change Dark Light haze Day 2 01:40hr 02:28rt Sighted Carlisle to N 3 Brit ships (NE - NW) Hailed Le Rescator (T Brig) Heading SW 6 more Brit Ships (course SW) 08:40 04:34 NE b 5Kn w-SEbE Course change Wx fair 14:50hr 04:40rt E b 5Kn w-EbN Final leg to port Many Brit ships NPC and Cmdrs 18:20hr 04:42rt full stop At Port Royal/Kingston
  22. To the Curse, Blackjack Morgan Thank you sir, for your generosity. The weight of this loss is significant. Your suggestion of compensation is a gesture made by a role model. If my experiences sailing in NA mirrored the animosity I read of in the forums I would be amazed at your charitable offer. But in truth I have witnessed truly commendable behavior when in NA. Cheers to you and those like you. This is first time I have been plundered and I spend almost all my time trading. I was attacked once before, but my foe left the ship and my cargo after they had removed the masts. I will be looking for you on the water when I make my trade runs. Although I was looking before and didn’t see you (or any threat) till it was too late. Perhaps someday I may give you a decent chase if I follow the words of Sir Texas Sir and set my course close hauled. With gratitude and humility. 2Lt Macjimm
  23. After waiting days In Port Carlisle for the prices of my investment in Lancashire Iron to improve I set out in my trader Brig for Port Morant. I had my head up was watching vigilantly. I noticed a small Pirate Lynx that passed me heading west as I rounded the point east of Carlisle. She came about and shadowed me to our stern on our heading. With my fleet of a cutter and lynx and the proximity of several healthy British war ships, and our capital, I was not seriously concerned about the little pirate. Then as I was on approach to Morant ... a Trincomalee charged out from Port Royal our west bearing down on us. From the Ships Log DAY 1 13:30hr 22:05rt Steady w-WNW Pirate Lynx bearing E - Heading E on our stern. She maintained this course and steadily gained. After a few hrs a Pirate Trincomalee also came up fast from west out of the the inside passage (SE of Port Royal) It was Blackjack Morgan. He slowed on approach to match my slower speed and engaged. First as I sat with no canvas he did nothing. Then as I started to move he fired some shot into my sails I ordered my fleet to escape and dropped my sails. Morgan approached our portside for boarding and I ordered all crew to the sails and repair. In spite of the horrendous damage to the sails they repaired them with lightning speed as if by magic. Ordering full sails I tried first bearing away to the east but the Trincomalee was much too fast so I turned to starboard and tested the ship on a beam reach. Still we were much much slower. Then Morgan connected a volley with our main mast and carried her away. We hailed him and indicated that we surrender and he replied to do so formally. We did. And In a heartbeat I was alone on the ocean. My ship, my fleet and Morgan was gone. My losses were very high. Over $200,000 which is the majority of my investment. I have not counted the losses to manpower. (Officers and crew). Now although I blame myself entirely, I do wonder if it does not seem reasonable to expect some level of protection in the home waters so close to our Capital. Are these pirates permitted to operate with total impunity, entirely unopposed.
  24. SUPPLIMENTARY I repaired my ship at Carlisle and continued on with the voyage. Made a little money at Pedro Cay and Port Royal trading Oak log Iron Ore and Tobacco. I left Port Royal 5 days later for Port Morant with a load of Teak. As I left port the passing many ships signaled that several Pirates and French raiders has been sighted south of Savanna la Mar heading east. The journey seemed longer than ever before and I was very attentive scanning constantly to the south and west. I was very relieved to see a fleet gathering at Port Morant. It is reassuring to be in presence of so many ships from Britain. Safety in numbers they say.
  25. I sail a British Trader Brig on PvP1 but am not skilled at combat. I am an Ensign with a crew of 15. I like the PvP server, it is exciting. I’ve been active since Feb of last year. Tonight at 17:50 hr (rt Zulu-8) I was idling in front of Port Carlisle on the southern coast of Jamaica. As I often do I was enjoying the view and making ready for a short hop south. My ship was heavy with resources that I had intended to sell at Pedro Cay. I had invested most of my small earning in hope of a reasonable profit. It is risky having so much of my wealth in one trade run. But exciting. Suddenly I found myself in battle with 3 Sverige ships. They opened fire immediately and shouted across "We are not nice." I shouted back that I was unprepared and had everything I owned on board. I ordered my two small escorts to flee and set full canvas to flee myself. It seems futile to try and dock at the port. The Sverige closed with me and used their ships to block my movement, then promptly demasted my brig. My damaged ship I fully expected the worse and was certain that I would soon be destroyed. After all it is a game centered and focused on combat and violence. Who could fault them. The port defenses opened fire on the attackers. Regardless I think they could have easily captured my ship. They did not. As they sailed away one yelled “Beware of those Danes”. My compliments (and thanks) to Kommendor Cals Flemming Larsson, Konteramiral Yar Matey and Konteramiral Carl Baron who showed sportsmanlike deportment. Naval Action is a truly great environment and this example of good conduct enhances the experience.
