I'm outda here

I will not leave without an explanation though. As a veteran or POTBS for three years I can say that the combat system and graphics of this game is hands down the best I have ever had the pleasure of playing. If POTBS had this level of realism in it I never would have left. However there are some glaring inadequacies in this game. The sort that have made it un-playable for me.

1) The distances;

It seems insane to me that anyone would enjoy wasting their precious gaming time staring at the back of a ship. I can play another game while I sail to the closest port. I can make dinner...from scratch, walk the dogs, feed the dogs, brush the dogs and build a dog house in the time it takes to sail back. People complained in POTBS about sail times. Those were like being transported compared to these. In a word BORING. No game survives boring its players...NONE.

2) Population;

Server PVP1 is no where near populated enough and server PVP2 is doornail dead. This can be directly attributed to reason #1 and reason #3.

3) No real additional content;

Yes they added land in sea battles, yep they added various tweaks to cannons, I will grant you that. I will also say that the changes were very well done. However the time spent making .5% changes to cannon power is gilding the lily. The players need to see some real movement toward a full fledged MMO, at least I do. I know all the excuses...their a small staff, their working hard, they need to make sure this one part is absolutely perfect before they can move on. If this were singularly a ship combat game then buff away. Am I wrong to expect that trading and ship building to be improved to the standards of the combat portion of the game? Am I wrong to expect missions and land content? Wrong to expect national diversity and a grand strategy? Is this a three legged chair that's missing two legs?

4) It's all coming;

When? After they further tweak rudder handling and smoke density? Some will say that I bought a game that wasn't ready yet and they would be right...I did. In my defense I will say that do expect changes toward a finished product and sadly I have not seen enough.

They love there realism stuff, so they decided to do tweaks on the damage model instead of development new content for the alpha. There prio list ist quite strange if u would ask me. the player said look ad diplo stuff, pirates as nation is a big issue and fix battle screen issue. But they change the damage model and lost 1) many working hours for the other content 2) lost many alpha tester due to that reason

The devs cant win this fight. I've all but quit for the exact opposite reasons the op mentioned ( exept he expects population on a closed server ???).

I dont like how fast the game is comming with instant teleports , port battles rolling everything till they hit the time zone stopper , missions missions everywhere and not a open world player to be seen!.

I mean if you're gonna make pvp servers with endless easy to get missions at least make them to kill players or escort ships into enemy territory so pvp players have something to look for in open world lol.

So OP im with you in not playing much but its for exactly the opposite reasons. We seem to be playing two different games which has been the devs problem from the start and they are now just seemingly trying to please everyone and in turn losing everyone.

What is the answete?

That is not the point.

Yeah, it wasn't your point, granted. But it is a question raised by the choice of 'I'm outta here' vs 'I'll take a break for a while and check back later'. Myself, I'm not playing a lot these days... waiting for the next significant changes.

you are all too impatient i got over 800 hours in this game and i feel they are doing a great job focus on one thing get it right and move on to the next. hell even i get burnt out due to lack of content, so i play something else for a while and come back to see the changes added. some games sit in early access\beta for years with out getting this far.  so calm down build your dog house and check it back out in a few weeks.

I agree with the OP in some regards. The graphics are good, the the combat is good, and the depth of some of the mechanics (specifically how sailing andmanual sails work, and the damage model) are good. The open world half of the game, though, is boring and has aspects that get annoying.

I understand the OP i am not a vet in this game and that is because there is nothing to play anyway. This game showed me that i might not be a tester at all since i get totally pushed away by the lack of everything in the game. So i guess i will enjoy it when it is finished, somewhere around 2020.

What i think is the problem is Naval Action has become a great example of why one may want to keep its unfinished work for itself. As an artist i can tell that it is really bad for your play to be presented to people before you finished rehearsals. Sometimes plays get tested in front of the public, but never ever will you see a serious director presenting Scene 1 of act 1, a week later present scene 2 of act 1 and so on until the show has been seen by everyone that would like to see it through 4 years ... and only a few of them may come back to the final product cause they've seen it already.

The problem we are not really testing anything... we bought a game, that is in the making, really, really deep in the making.

I sincerely hope for the best for this game cause the genre is unique and awesome. I also wish all the success in the world to the devs. Sometimes i wonder if World of Warcraft would have survived a beta testing session lasting over 3 years after buying the game or if No Man Sky would be waited with that much of energy if they released it on steam 3 years ago. My point is keep up the good work guys, but maybe releasing an unfinished game was not the thing to do. I guess i will enjoy my money invested in this enterprise after its over, if it ever gets there...

Well look where we are now

Captain was very excited about a very realistic game

We did not dumb it down as he asked in his first post on this forum :) (including long voyages and lone sails on the horizon)

BTW

Some games (like eve or elite dangerous) ban for such - i am leaving - posts, but we are still nice people.

You can all get the amount of work done over the last year here

Perhaps people became spoiled by other games like star citizen. And do not appreciate what they have (had) and hours they have already enjoyed in the game.

One of the recent examples is Wappen von Hamburg german ship we adding. People started complaining about new ship.

We believe that its ok to get bored with anything after 100+ hours. No point to post about it. Its natural.

Well, sort of. Port Battles, with their flags, 2 hour attack windows set to 2 a.m. and nations -- including pirates -- racing around capturing swaths of undefended ports pretty much make a mockery of realism.

The game development is a little slow but the team involved is passionate, its clear to see they are people who really care about delivering a quality product, you just have to remember that it is still alpha and although its something that has a lot of development for an alpha there are some things that still need quite a bit of work. Admin and the rest take on the feedback and do seem to value it, while I cannot speak to them they are always engaging with the community and trying to sort out the best history and gameplay they can. Sure there are a lot of people leaving because its not a finished product but I am here to stay, I like to test out every patch and hotfix, they almost always add something significant and interesting. My only regret I have for the game is that I cannot do enough to help its development more :)

.

Every time you guys mention the train wreck known as star citizen it makes me nervous.

There's nothing indicating any train wreckage at Star Citizen. the project is still well underway.

All a matter of perspective, I plan on getting the 60 dollar starter package when I'm able to get back on my PC again. The potential it has is worth it.

"Hey, at least we're better than the Star Citizen devs, so shut up and be happy." Yeah, that's a good way to interact with one's community...

Both of those posts were written before I purchased the game. That you bring them up as some evidence of my supposed position after playing for near four months, is highly dis-ingénues. Is it your contention that I am to stay to a pre-position after the facts are rendered fully? If I say I like bananas at 5 years old, is it your position that at 60 they should still hold the same fascination for me? Only an idiots views fail to evolve and only an idiot would expect them not to.
