  1. I wouldn't mind an hour long day, not sunrise to sunset, but proper bright midday light for an hour; 30 mins of morning light prior and 30 of evening light after, followed by 15 mins of night.
  2. Just remember the site is big and can be overwhelming to a new member, hell I even can't remember where things are sometimes
  3. Expect access within the next 15 days or so
  4. Yeah, need surface area, (RE what we are discussing in the test thread). I could even make this work with doing what Cunningham suggested, because like you said, counting weevils would work. If I had plans all to the same scale, even without RL measurements, I could make it work, using mm or cm to convert, it all will still represent area relative to each other. I just need the sources.
  5. You will have a tougher time here than I do with demonstrating hull strength, as I have actual hard measurements and I know the densities of the woods used. I was hoping you would undertake this task as it desperately needs to be done. This may come down to comparing captain's logs, but I would love to assist in the research. I think this more than deserves it's own thread.
  6. I know for ships like the Victory, Hermione and Constitution a measurement like this would be relatively easy to find, but what of other ships that are in game? I would really love to find reliable sources for this uncommon measurement. Ultimately I'd like to calculate surface area for the side of every ship and this is the one measurement that is never mentioned, bar acquiring the plans for each and every ship. Does anyone have any ideas or sources?
  7. Arrives in Yorktown 11384483_10152891172098321_95614854_n.mp4
  8. Drake, Rafael, how much have either of you actually researched about this subject?
  9. The British did make stronger hulls, generally, than the French and especially the Spanish, but she had nothing to compare to the 6 frigates the US began building in 1797. Even her 'answer' to these 'overbuilt' ships, the Leander and Endymion were nothing like the big 3 in scantling and construction.
  10. This is during the revolution when America had no official Navy or fleet and sailed whatever she it could get ahold of. Most of these ships were private vessels, privateers and Dutch and French built. True American ship design went completely the opposite direction once congress laid down orders for the first six frigates. I recommend reading 'Six Frigates' and then 'Ships of Oak, Guns of Iron' to start with. America, due to unlimited timber access and a small navy made a name for designing overbuilt ships, the thickest scantlings per ton on the sea and used the finest oaks, including being the only nation to use the hyper-dense Southern Live Oak for frames. https://www.dropbox.com/s/xkclwlg93irw4o7/Con%20Research%20Quotes.pdf?dl=0
  11. Welcome and be prepared to put many of your other hobbies and games to the side, this game is addictive
  12. So it's technically doable, it's just a matter of whether you want to correct? I had misunderstood (rather someone told me wrong) that it wasn't possible to implement. I think the nation entering the battle should be able to choose which side he is fighting with, so there will still be one green and one red side. Stealing of a prize should net the thief very little XP, little gold and little return for the sold ship making it a venture not worth their time.
  13. 3 masts, yes, we were worried there for a minute. Looks amazing! Both of them look amazing!
  14. If it was merely a question then it should have been posted in the forums as a question not brought to a tribunal. Open the discussion in Open World and don't drag this situation up, let the community discuss this issue of pirates vs pirates, it's a good question. Closed.
  15. TDA needed to rock out, the next one will be sea shanties
  16. Fleet, we've been discussing this for some time, so this means please do not invite someone without discussing it with leadership first, thanks!
  17. Not a bad idea, I like the idea of proximity chat window popping up, just another tab in the chat window, and only when extremely close, but the voice idea won't work, almost everyone in the game is using Teamspeak with their friends.
  18. That we are an American clan with an international roster is quite realistic for this time period. There were a large number of British sailors on the American frigates (thus the War of 1812), with even a number of Trafalgar veterans willingly serving; several gun captains and officers of the watch were Scandinavian on the Constitution, United States and Shannon and we all know John Paul Jones was a mad Scotsman by birth.
  19. I would tend to think it was the ability to put in a larger charge as well ( I have the bore data for the Hope Furnace but not the Cecil so can't compare) and if that is the case then that could be the believable reasoning for the increased range.
  20. I agree with both sides here, which is unusual. In 1797 the Furnace Hope model 24 pounder 'long gun' was delivered to the USS Constitution, they were exactly 8’ feet long and weighed 6000 pounds. In 1807 Cecil Iron Works delivered a new battery of 24 pounders to her and supposedly these provided increased range over the Furnace Hope guns. These new guns weighed in at 6400 pounds and were 9’ 6" long. An even longer long gun. Now, I've heard before, as in the documentary, that "8 to 10 feet" is about the range that the burning powder stops accelerating the projectile. That leaves the door open I suppose. Both viewpoints could be correct, so there is enough for me to accept the long and medium cannons, even if it could be proven that the longs shouldn't have increased range and penetration. Or maybe I just want to get the whole grape debate and the hull thickness/construction thing sorted first
  21. Welcome! Bring some fine Italian wine to our ports and we will trade you the finest Kentucky bourbon whiskey
