  1. Nope, it's this gamer-meta rubbish that will bring the game down to the level of world of tanks. This game doesn't need separate PVE and PVP servers, what it needs is an arcade server and a sim server, like War Thunder, you guys can have your bubblegum tiers and hailing with click, and we can have the age of sail.
  2. Yeah mega honesty points there Pete. Can you share some with me? I still get accused of being a nationalistic American that wants the Constitution to be like the Star Trek Constitution even though I'm over here screaming that Live Oak should be 10x more expensive in labor and gold and only found where it was actually found Currently doesn't the Pirate Frigate get a boarding bonus built in?
  3. 4 US players were attacked repeatedly by an even larger force of these same guys last night, like 600 guns to 200. This is what they do, it was frowned upon a long time ago, but now it is ok, so you just have to get on with it. We've never made tribunals about this, we just get even In an even fight those guys really aren't that good, we've fought everyone and I'd rank our opponents as British>French>Dutch>Danish, so practice a little and gank them back!
  4. Locked per request of admiralty, there are enough suggestions to progress to the next phase. Thank you to all you participated!
  5. I have this one by Geoff Hunt, signed as well, but it is on the other side of the country at a family members house. I am desperately wanting it with me here on the West coast. It was custom framed and is stunning. He is my favorite by far.
  6. The Randolph would be an excellent choice, she was the first ship Joshua Humpreys help build and his first use of Live Oak. She was the prototype of his later famous designs. Btw I'm reading Perilous Fight now, excellently written.
  7. We should talk on TS about this as I am in the hunt and almost having the exact same choice dilemma as you haha.
  8. Thanks guys, working on part two. Yeah, about that Bellona, it actually ended in a boarding where he was able to keep breaking the boarding while being pinned in between both of us and all of us at 0 knots, it was bs actually, so not a good scene to put in the movie, so that scene got cut haha.
  9. Clan function is already here. Are you in the game or waiting to get in? if you're in you'll see a minimal clan function is there with 3 'ranks', creator, officer and member. It does not detract from the gameplay of the individual player. I have an alt that is not a member of a clan and I use him when I want to be independent and enjoy another way of playing the game as another nationality. That my main account is in a clan affects him not one bit. Ports are captured by nation, not clan, so it behooves everyone to work together and makes for some really fun gameplay. Clans do not detract from national rivalries, it adds to the depth of the gameplay. We already give our fellow nation members better deals on ships and resources, we share plans, and we come to each others aid, being separate clans does not detract from this at all. Clans generally add a little bit of law and order to the OW. When the order goes out to 'hey guys, let's leave Captain Jim Bob alone, he's not in a clan and he's just crafting solo', then you have 30 players who are now not attacking Captain Jim Bob, whereas were those 30 players not in a clan and all independent, Captain Jim Bob who just wants to craft could have a bad day.
  10. I hope everyone here is safe as well as friends and family. I had a friend at the concert, but she got out ok. Disgusting night. Je Suis Parisien
  11. Definitely, I think we will see this in the future, I think the current clan system is just the beginning. Several ranks with different levels of access would be great; a main fund, a clan fund, the ability to deposit goods and gold into clan account etc.
  12. That makes much more sense and that is not a bad proposition at all. I am all for more depth and nuance in the game, especially in regards to this.
  13. Yes those are the rigging woods and some of the interior furnishings. The Spanish made elaborately designed ships in that regard. Cuban Mahogany was the primary wood used in the frames and the planking of Spanish ships since the 1500s. Those 3 are small trees and thus couldn't be cut for frames and planking. Most single planks were a solid straight piece 14-21 ft long, depending on ship size, frames were long and curved, usually 10-12 feet, 9-14" in width and then on ships like the Santisima would need to be 7-10" thick at that width and likely 14' long and curved. I'd say these woods were for all the rigging and other furnished parts. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swietenia_mahagoni "Mahogany, cedar and other woods were shipped more or less regularly from the West Indies to Spain long before 1575, for Spain at that time dominated the world and its demand for ship building timbers was enormous. Spain itself had no timber suitable for building ships and its unfriendly relations with northern Europe made drawing supplies from that source impossible; consequently it obtained timber from San Domingo, Cuba and Jamaica for building many ships of the Spanish Armada prior to 1588. A number of the largest Spanish ships were built of West Indies mahogany.[7]" http://www.wood-database.com/?s=west+indies+mahogany Average Dried Weight: 37 lbs/ft3 (600 kg/m3) Janka Hardness: 930 lbf (4,120 N)
  14. Ok here is my idea of tropical (light green)/temperate (dark green) tree placement in OW.
  15. It'd be great to see the deciduous, coniferous and fruit trees you see on top of mountains placed on the coast of Georgia and northwards. A mix of the tropical trees and temperate trees beginning about Saint Mary's or Brunswick and gradually turning to all temperate by the time you reach Georgetown. Global palm range In game temperate trees
  16. I'm all for historical armament, as long as it is applied to all ships accurately. The big problem right now is that most of these ships had mixed upper deck loads, i.e. 12 longs, some carronades, an 18 or 24 or two, etc. Since that can't be done - or if it was done then people would instantly start complaining that controlling multiple gun types on one deck is 'too hard'. Ships did not put crew ashore when they changed armament either, so these penalties would be a gamey deviation from real life application. Since you used the Constitution as an example: She sailed in 1798 with 475 men; her muster roll shows 461 just before she defeated the Cyane and Levant in 1815; 475 men when she defeated the Java (who had 446 men aboard) in 1812; the United States had 480 aboard when she captured the Macedonian (who had 440); President 465. Those different crew sizes had nothing to do with what armaments they had aboard. The 450 is nominal, as is the 650 on the 74's, who were almost always undermanned in reality, more so in the French navy than even the British. In fact having the 700+ crew now is extremely generous. It's Christmas for the 3rd rates. I think the crewing of ships in game now is fine (could be better, could be worse) , rarely will 2 ships encounter each other with the exact same crew due to modules etc, and that's a good thing, allows for personalization. Hopefully one day we can move toward an honor/reputation system which dictates if you can actually fill all those extra hammocks. But I digress. Yes to historical armament hard limits, but allow the player some choice. Want to overgun your top deck with all 18lbers? Overrun that 3rd rates 2nd deck with 24's? Then you will need optimized ballast to counter it, you will incur a slight speed loss etc. But it will pay off at pistol range when you fire double etc.
  17. Craftable provisions and upkeep items for the ships will add to immersion and the economy. An economy that revolves around ship building only will get boring quickly and need a lot of artificial aid. There seems to be a view of upkeep 'punishing' players. I never thought of having to buy or harvest food in Skyrim or having to pay upkeep for my units in Total War series and >insert game name< ad infinitum, as 'punishment'. This odd view handicaps the opportunities for realism and growth. Requiring upkeep daily would be annoying, even weekly, but say every 100 hours of on the water sailing would not encumber casual players and if every item needed in crew and ship upkeep had to be crafted by players, then it's a win for the economy and a win towards keeping Victorys and Santisimas from being the standard cruise around ship for everyone.
  18. Turn anisotropic off, it is the biggest frame hog and at this point, until further optimized, does nothing for your visuals. Try AA at 2x and anisotropic off. You really want to have some AA at least. I can run everything max and get good frames, but after testing in OW and instance several times, I could not tell the difference when anisotropic was on or off, so I leave to off and get 15 fps boost.
  19. Thanks you sir! I forgot to wish ourselves a happy birthday haha
  20. What's wrong? Where do we start? That she is more sluggish than a Santisima? That she is a leak factory even with Live Oak? That she heels like a Trincomalee despite having a deeper draft than a Bellona? How about this little problem? And for the people whose knowledge of the Constitution's size and construction is superficial and in passing only, this is a good little primer: https://www.dropbox.com/s/xkclwlg93irw4o7/Con%20Research%20Quotes.pdf?dl=0 And for a more detailed study: http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/3341-the-case-for-increasing-the-constitutions-armor-thickness-and-hit-points/ If there are any further questions I am a walking Constitution library and I love to discuss this issue, which I have been petitioning to get resolved going on a year now. As for her speed: As for her maneuverability: Here's the thing, let's get this fixed now, because there are thousands of history buffs and age of sail experts out there who will pour into this game; once they realize that this ship is being treated much differently than any other ship in assignment of HP will not go over well. Imagine the Victory having half the HP of the Santisima. How would the community react? The Constitution is closer in size to the Bellona than the Victory is to the Santisima.
