  1. As a side note I think it's safe to say we can remove 'random' firing as well and just rely on the front and rear beginning broadsides.
  2. Welcome to Dypat our newest member! Our Canadian squadron is getting thick. We have members from Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, New Zealand, Canada and even a Brit! The United States in this era was a place where all alpha male (and female) adventurers would come seeking a new destiny. It was these immigrants who helped define the nation. Teddy Roosevelt once said that the War of 1812 is when America arrived on the world stage and it was precisely the moment the Constitution defeated the Guerriere. Her crew which had Scandinavians, British ex-pats and Canadians were integral to that, so do not hesitate to apply today if you don't reside in the U.S.
  3. Cuban Mahogany is what was used in shipbuilding, the Santisima was made of it. It is very durable and seaworthy, but it is weaker than oak. Cuban Mahogany 37lbs cu.ft English/Red Oak 42lbs cu. ft White Oak 47lbs cu.ft
  4. At the time I ran this I was not in game or logging in. The only thing I am aware of is my ping remaining consistent throughout the freezes and kicks, which for me is 170s to high 180s, this has been my ping since the beginning of Sea Trials (not counting that awesome window where we had a US server and I was getting into the 90s). I have never had issues before this patch so I'm hoping it's something temporary.
  5. Ok will do, thanks Update: Let me add that at no time during these issues was my ping higher than normal. Also this confused me: " Type: tracert <server_address> and press enter (<server_address> is actual address of game server)" so if it confuses anyone else type this exactly: tracert 89.163.234.93 Tracing route to 89.163.234.93 over a maximum of 30 hops 1 7 ms 6 ms 2 ms 10.0.0.1 2 * * * Request timed out. 3 25 ms 24 ms 29 ms xe-4-0-1-0-sur04.or.comcast.ne t [68.85.242.109] 4 19 ms 17 ms 23 ms ae-51-0-ar01.or.comcast.net [6 8.87.216.105] 5 23 ms 18 ms 36 ms be-33490-cr02.seattle.wa.ibone.comcast.net [68.8 6.92.217] 6 20 ms 19 ms 19 ms he-0-13-0-0-pe04.seattle.wa.ibone.comcast.net [6 8.86.82.234] 7 20 ms 24 ms 39 ms as174.seattle.wa.ibone.comcast.net [66.208.228.1 10] 8 53 ms 57 ms 56 ms be2085.ccr21.slc01.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.2. 198] 9 53 ms 60 ms 64 ms be2127.ccr22.den01.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.25 .69] 10 83 ms 72 ms 80 ms be2130.ccr22.mci01.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.26 .122] 11 79 ms 79 ms 77 ms be2157.ccr42.ord01.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.6. 118] 12 86 ms 89 ms 104 ms be2185.ccr22.cle04.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.43 .178] 13 98 ms 102 ms 101 ms be2597.ccr22.yyz02.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.31 .90] 14 113 ms 102 ms 106 ms be2093.ccr22.ymq02.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.44 .106] 15 170 ms 169 ms 179 ms be2385.ccr22.lpl01.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.44 .142] 16 179 ms 197 ms 176 ms be2183.ccr42.ams03.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.58 .70] 17 180 ms 187 ms 181 ms be2440.agr21.ams03.atlas.cogentco.com [130.117.5 0.6] 18 189 ms 185 ms 184 ms be2114.rcr21.dus01.atlas.cogentco.com [130.117.4 8.62] 19 186 ms 191 ms 184 ms be2567.nr11.b015770-1.dus01.atlas.cogentco.com [ 154.25.6.182] 20 196 ms 197 ms 185 ms 149.6.138.122 21 184 ms 182 ms 185 ms 89.163.234.93 Trace complete. >ping 89.163.234.93 Pinging 89.163.234.93 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 89.163.234.93: bytes=32 time=189ms TTL=108 Reply from 89.163.234.93: bytes=32 time=188ms TTL=108 Reply from 89.163.234.93: bytes=32 time=191ms TTL=108 Reply from 89.163.234.93: bytes=32 time=181ms TTL=108 Ping statistics for 89.163.234.93: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 181ms, Maximum = 191ms, Average = 187ms
  6. How about a permanently open instance with landmasses within?
  7. I think there is a happy medium that will appease the realism crowd (of which I am a proud paladin of) and the 'I can't be bothered with age of sail things' crowd. Closed lower decks and sail damage for putting up too much canvas for conditions and that can only be repaired in a calm with a OW repair would be a simple start. I'd like to see different storm intensities, but I would be happy if the above were implemented. I'd also love to see intermittent rain showers without the dark storm clouds, anyone who has been to the Caribbean and Gulf knows what I'm talking about.
  8. I'm having a nightmare the past week, booted left and right and can't log back in. I can't play like this. I've f11'd several times, sent multiple crash reports. Tonight I was kicked and tried for over 30 minutes to get back in. I ran speedtest.net, 95mb download, not a problem on my end. It's not just me, I see the players online drop by 20-30 at a time when this happens.
  9. Is there a way to at least reduce the knots at which boarding can be initiated? 4-6 knots is way too fast. Can you require it to have the hulls touching at least as well? The repeat boarding is happening because of the OP boarding modules, as I reported recently, we are capping 4-5 ships each, same sized ships or larger each, without graping or reducing HP.
  10. Yeah, happening across the board, it's been reported up the channels, hopefully fixed soon.
  11. it's a good change, been looking at the same paint for over a year now. Maybe they are introducing new paint jobs so eventually we can choose a scheme upon crafting, since they will already be in the files.

  13. Get thee behind me: The Chambers Swivel gun "Joseph Chambers' inventions were developed for the US Navy during the War of 1812. His centerpiece was the powerful swivel gun, a seven-barreled .75 caliber gun that could fire 224 shots." "Each barrel was loaded with multiple charges of powder and round balls. These balls are much closer to the actual size of the bore than musket balls, and are also patched with an animal membrane. Each has a hole bored through the center containing a small amount of priming." "The first charge is set off by a flintlock set about halfway down the gun, connected to a trigger by a long wire. When it fires, the first charge sets off the priming leading through the second ball in the bore, and so on. It also communicates through a vent to a second barrel, to start off it's sequence of charges." British officers captured from the Cyane and Levant by Decatur's USS United States wrote reports about the 7 barreled guns saying that each barrel "could throw 25 balls within a few seconds of each other" Chambers brought his weapon to the US Navy and called it a 'machine gun'.Chambers guns were accepted by the US Navy in 1813 and they eventually ordered 60 of them (along with 500 repeating muskets), some were sent to the lake squadrons and some sent to the Atlantic squadrons. It was aboard USS Constitution in 1814 and accompanied Commodore Stephen Decatur’s squadron to the mediterranean in 1815. These weapons were employed in the tops. Well, they were coming: The Paul Revere Howitzer 3 inch brass bore howitzer that could fire grenades, solid shot or grape. They were employed in the tops and in the ships boats. They were also known as “swivel howitzers” or “cohorns.”
  14. Ha, I think it's the region of France where her owner/captain John Ordronaux was from, it's in the Normandy area. That was his wife that the quote says bought it.
  15. "Built at New York in 1813 by the prominent New York ship builders, Adam and Noah Brown, the Prince de Neufchatel was one of the fastest and most successful American privateers of the War of 1812. A large two-masted schooner, she was 111 feet long, 25 feet wide, and carried 18 guns. Owned by an American woman, Madame Flory Charreton, Prince de Neufchatel set sail for France soon after completion under Captain J. Ordronaux to prey on British shipping. She captured a number of prizes during 1814 and outran pursuit by 17 British warships at various times. On returning to American waters, Prince De Neufchatel was chased by the British frigate Endymion. With both ships stopped by a lack of wind, the British attacked with five boats holding 110 men. Despite fierce defense, the British succeeded in boarding and were driving back the Americans when Captain Ordronaux seized a lighted match and threatened to blowup the ship if his men retreated further. The outnumbered crew responded by killing or wounding most of the attackers, and she escaped once again. In honor of his heroism during this fight, the Navy named a WWII destroyer after Captain Ordronaux. During a second cruise to British waters, she was damaged in a gale and had to surrender to a British frigate squadron. Impressed by her sailing qualities, the British made a copy of her plans and built a replica for the British navy."
  16. Because no one wants to play out the Atlantic slave trade. Space slaves, or slaves in Rome Total War is not the same as re-enacting, for profit, the slave trade that just ended 150 year ago. Same way no one wants to re-enact the ongoing Arabic slave trade in Africa. It's not going to happen. I think it's safe to say this thread is closed, Admin has spoken, no need to have pages of slave trade pros and cons. This is the 2nd thread on this today, topic is done
  17. Of all the things that could be done to increase realism, you want to have slavery?
  18. The shallow draft will put the wales into the water at a full press of sail but like you said she will be fast. Question is, is the Rattlesnake faster? I can't wait for both of these TBH. Picturing a privateer fleet with Lynxs, Niagaras and Rattlesnakes. Though we would be banned from attacking trading ships by the ROE I'm sure...
