  1. Agree with 99% of this. I would also like a 'Ignore this thread' option. I *hate* paging through notices of flame bait crap in a few threads that have flared up that I have ZERO interest in.
  2. I think it would be fair to take a one rank demotion for changing nations... and with a cooldown of at least a month before you can think of changing again.
  3. Maybe I haven't had enough coffee yet but I'm having trouble understanding what you're describing. Do you mean you take non-fleet Combat missions and just escape from them as fast as possible one after another? You've left so the NPC assist ships are outmatched and get sunk. Pirate hostility rises for the region because the NPC pirate ships won?
  4. With the course as currently plotted for NA, I doubt there's any chance this being included before release. But it would make for a nice chunk of added content as an enhancement sometime down the road (if that's even a possibility).
  5. Are those static ships, or did you use the Minecraft mod "Ships by Cuchaz" so you could actually sail them on the mirror smooth waters of Minecraftia? Unfortunately it only supports MC 1.7.10.
  6. Sorry - while it may be annoying, that's all it is... annoying. IMO it hardly ranks as more important than a host of features on the roadmap and I personally wouldn't want them to divert any effort from the roadmap to this.
  7. IMHO GameLabs needs to adopt a more aggressive zero-tolerance policy. Should (once again) issue a plainly worded statement that RL (real life) politics and prejudices have no place in Naval Action and recent exchanges both in game and forums have crossed the line. (because they most certainly have) This community destroying behavior must stop now, well before release. Civility needs to be reinstated. Players who are hostile to members of their own NA nation because they are of a different RL origin will possibly be warned once, but more likely feel an instant 24 hour ban hammer if witnessed by mods or proof is provided. Civilly advising a player with a definite language barrier that they may want to change national 'teams' is acceptable (we can all use Google translate to relay advice). Harassment or attempts to force them to switch is not acceptable behavior. Any trash talk between NA nations in game chat and forums will be held to a more friendly and good natured banter. Mods to be more aggressive in holding the line by issuing warnings and editing forum posts (this has been done but sporadically). Lower the 'noise' tolerance level. Too much is slipping by. My 2 cents on the subject.
  8. We have rushed opening new servers after EA launch and will not rush merging the servers before release. We can merge the servers in 1 day but do not know yet if it is a good idea or not. Half of our customers are from USA, half of our customers is from Europe. Most likely there will be two servers Has any thought been given to moving the PvP2 server to the US west coast to improve performance for the Aussie and SEA players? Pacific = gulf of mexico. No-one is going to be there. We have no plans to remove rookie area yet. A lot of people who want rookie area removed are veterans Ummm - "Pacific = gulf of mexico"??? If that's an analogy I don't get it. Otherwise I am glad the rookie region is staying since they need all the help they can get. It annoys me immensely to hear of experienced fleets preying on them. A worthy cause for a clan would be to patrol the Bahamas, ask for sightings in global chat, and stomp those jerks. The last thing NA needs is for gank squads to drive away the newbies for a few lolz. Maybe prime proving ground for 'expert AI' patrol fleets that home in on and attack any captains above rookie rank in the rookie zone. Hostility system was partially proposed by players and was supposed to bring people together in jolly cooperation vs other nations. But it did not. If there are more enemies than you have you don’t engage and enemies pve. same happens against you. Thus hostility points failed. We will try tweaking it one more time but we are very pessimistic about hostility points now. I'm very sorry to hear that. It's my impression that people don't like it because it is a PvE grind against NPC pirates. Hostility points didn't fail. Sorry but it was the implementation of them that was flawed. Please try implementing blockades and raids as means of generating hostility. This will allow PvP people to have fun and preserve the idea of a sustained campaign to capture a region instead of just "attack port - entire region falls in one day". It will also allow giving combat missions back to national capital regions for the rookie/PvE people, and they will still have War Supplies for a regional hostility mechanism. Pirates will be able to sink each other if they attack each other (so called outlaw battle). Outlaw battle will not provide rewards, will be open for 1.30 hours and will be FFA (even forts will shoot at all participants and each other). This is going to be tested on testbed first. please tell me you mean that the free for all (FFA) will affect pirates only. Is it true that for the 90 minute FFA, no pirate will be able to go near their own ports without having the fortifications shooting at them? Important statement on the time period immersive UI. ...snip... Age of sail ships were the most modern creation then. Thus UI must be sleek and modern to actually be immersive. sailors were serving on most modern and sleek ships- spaceships of the age of sail. Hoping your "must be sleek and modern" and "spaceships of the age of sail" are only figures of speech - otherwise people are going to have thermonuclear meltdowns. Rain and storms happen in battle if you start a battle in rain or storm. rain and fog ... yes. But storms are a different animal and they do not occur in the OW. Is there ANY chance they might come back? National alliances were requested by players (persistently). Players want alliances and they will fall into stalemates if players will keep them. Players who don’t want alliances can join pirates and sink everyone. Yes - alliances were requested by players and it should seem possible for players to make sure alliances don't have a huge negative impact on enjoying the game. But real world politics and nationalism are not being left at the door, and its sucking the fun out of NA for many people who just want to play an AoS game. In the end if the players won't sort it - it is GameLabs revenue on the line. Telling players 6 months after release that they caused the game to fail isn't going to help much. Also so far there hasn't been much in the way of keeping it under control. We do not know yet – but at the moment you can test ships on testbed server (when it is live). I believe the question was meant for after release. Right now there's also the PvE server for just farting around without being in much danger. Some sort of training/tutorial mode is an absolute necessity for games these days. I instantly regret buying any game with a learning curve that doesn't have tutorial missions. World of Tanks has a good tutorial mission series, and I don't think its as complicated as NA. On average 40 captains join the game EVERY DAY for the last 1-2 months without any marketing. That is 1200 players per month. That’s enough to fill both PVP servers in 2 months. What did you personally do to make them feel at home, happy and willing to stay and fight alongside you? Remember that your negativity spreads and stops them from playing. Wow - had no idea the influx was this high. Glad to hear GL is giving attention to getting new players past the Brig stage. No. GOOD! Boarding will most likely be updated after release. Is this saying we won't see the 3D HOMM/Mordheim boarding changes until after release? We plan to remove the ability to keep XP when deleting players. XP Synchronization was provided for EA only. You won’t be able to change nation in the future without starting completely fresh. Ouch - suggest a more forgiving system for at least the first 2-3 ranks when players may discover they don't like, aren't liked by, the nation they joined.
  9. The problem is that while I may agree on 1 or 2 points in a post, I usually disagree very much with the rest of it.
  10. I see why both of these are being suggested, but they're one step closer to making the OW a farce. In response to ppl asking for various activities to be made easier... I suggest a quick glance at: Understanding failure, the PoTBS story Edit: Also one of the 'related' links ... Pirates of the Instanced Sea... Mini Game Madness, is a very good read. Not entirely applicable, but interesting.
  11. Yes it sounds quite doable - but admin has said more than once that the code cannot tell if any given spot in the battle instance is water or land. I don't get it either, but that's what's been said.
  12. I hadn't even considered trying the testbed version since I have a wonderfully low Mediacom datacap. I expected the testbed version to be MUCH bigger than 350mb but the only way to find out was to go ahead and d/l it.
  13. True confession: I didn't play potbs because I had zero disposable cash at the time. I really have to question this statement. I do not believe for a second that potbs went under solely due to a poor combat model (which is your implication). The state of the UI is definitely one of my pet peeves. REALLY looking forward to that patch.
  14. Important problems to be solved remove national alliances from player control - can be more or less random but with momentum vectors towards peace or war as indicated by RvR activity. Also put logic in to break prolonged periods of peace or war. Show some imagination and wrap a narrative around it - DO NOT just issue minimum notices like "Admiralty reports war with Spain this month". Solicit help from players in crafting the narrative and/or getting translations. ships joining an open battle (signalling perk or otherwise open instances) should be made to spawn in at respectable distance. Use an attack join circle much like port battles where entry swords must be clicked from beyond circle. either accelerate the new UI release or at least do a few visibility tweaks to the existing one Features to add instead of forum polls, add game launch polls so *all* players see the questions. Allow a 'Don't bother me' option to avoid those who will just select anything to get rid of the poll (and throw off the results). Once player answers poll - the poll results to date are shown. Most important this is done for voting for top ideas from here. Region hostility to be driven by PvP based blockades and raids. pirate clan handling finalized Features to remove PvE hostility missions against pirates and reestablish Combat Missions for low rank XP grinding to level up like they used to be (even in National capital regions). Alt accounts (IP detection) in other nations - sorry, this is too open to abuse to be allowed. Family *must* play in same nation to share IP addresses. Armada sized NPC patrol fleets - should be frigates at most and never more than 2 or 3.
  15. There's the rub right there... if there were 2000 players online, then likely most open battles would escalate into Trafalgar sized events during peak periods. This would thrill some players and anger others who were just trying to tag an enemy or NPC trader. Solo pirates would not be happy either. You keep painting open battles as the cure to all population problems in NA and it just isn't that simple. You aren't happy with the current RoE (neither am I really) but others think it's the best we've ever had. The only way to truly gauge the feeling of the majority is for GL to put a poll into the NA launch sequence that *all* players respond to. Polls in these forums are all well and good but generally *at best* we get a third as many responses as there are PvP1 players online during peak times. So it may be as low as a quarter (or less) of the actual active players when all three servers are considered.
  16. Help me out here... the PB start window that the Lord Protector set. How big of a window did that used to be? 2 hr, 4 hr, 6 hr?
  17. As much as I dislike the idea too - this may be the only solution to screening completely destroying port battles if changes aren't made to the RoE along with an extension to post battle immunity in the vicinity of the ports.
  18. The only other idea I've seen is to turn the PB into a 'best of' series of battles distributed evenly around the clock. edit - oops, Fellvred already mentioned this one.
  19. Nice response to a person new to Naval Action ass. I have you on my ignore list but saw you responding to this newbie and was stupid enough to think you may have been offering friendly advice. Nope - you just conformed my opinion of you in spades. Don't bother responding, you remain on my ignore list and I won't bother to check anymore to see if you've said anything I might have the slightest interest in.
  20. Do you want us to repeat questions to emphasize their importance to us? (Or just use the 'like' feature?) Do you want us to NOT repeat existing questions?
  21. What feature will we see in the next (major) patch? Will it go to the test server first? Ballpark ETA? (Don't answer this if it will make a significant portion of the player base stop playing to wait for it)
  22. Not a bad suggestion but wouldn't see the light of day for 2-3 months (being optimistic)
