  1. I may be way off base here, but I'm wondering if the signaling perk is being used as a test. If nearly everyone likes instances to stay open until the BR is balanced, then most will use the perk and the devs can safely make it standard behavior. If hardly anyone uses it, then open instances aren't nearly as popular as some would like to believe. If the reality is that some like open instances and some don't, then the perk gives it to those that want it without forcing it on everyone.
  2. The ship notes would have to have a weight the equivalent (or close) to the total of the materials involved to craft that ship. Possibly by rating class. I still like the idea of 'building' the ship taking a period of time (RL days) with a cool animated graphic to look at when you check on the progress. I would also suggest that ships only be built at friendly national/regional capitals (where the shipyards would be) with only a requirement of sailing to that port to place the order and later to take delivery of the ship - no outpost required. (Which of course means selling the ship you sailed in when taking delivery.)
  3. The single largest roadblock to plentiful PvP right now is population. I understand that the game isn't ready for prime time yet, but it's a shame it missed the year end sale.
  4. You can only set it for the parts you want to follow, not the ones you want to ignore AFAIK. It's a pain to select all the forums you want but it's doable. I did it with "My Activity Streams"... "Create New Stream"... Show Me... "Content items, comments and reviews" Clicking Unread Items... "Take me to the first unread comment" Content Types... "Topics" > gear icon > select the sections you want Read Status... "Content I haven't read" Ownership... "Everything" Time Period... "Any time" Sorting (at top)... "Oldest first" Then I bookmark the result as a favorite. When the bookmark is selected, it just does the filter again and shows the new results.
  5. I liked the re-enactors being told that their cannon reload cycle of 4 minutes was "good" and how pleased they looked. And then the advisor told them that gun crews of that time period were expected to fire every 60 seconds. LoL
  6. Some clarification from admin on the attack circle (which is outside all 3 zones... only visible by enlarging the screenshot) and the defense circle (around middle zone and island) Clarification here
  7. Lots of interesting info on the ships and captains Master & Commander was based on, the importance of live oak in ship building, ruses and tricks to evade enemies, and a bit about what shipboard surgery looked like. Low budget production but fairly well done. Can't vouch for the accuracy but they seem to know what they're talking about. See it here
  8. I've always thought this was a surprising omission from NA. A captain should always be aware of the morale of his crew during battle. It defies human nature to be able to order your last 2 crewmen to ignore the carnage around them and keep trimming sail and loading cannon. Very arcade feeling. I agree that it should definitely be a two-way street with morale rising and falling depending on events in the battle. Late in the game but I hope it can be considered before release.
  9. I agree with Wraith that if the screening points directly affect the PB victory points, it could have very negative results. Give a definite advantage over the PB outcome to large nations/alliances able to muster more ships. Less experienced players could be made to feel unwelcome even for the screening action. A significantly outnumbered screening fleet's best option would be to just withdraw. Not the desired effects at all.
  10. While I realize this is in EA and we can't expect everything to be fully finished and polished, it takes more than a system alert that basically says "Admiralty Event started" to encourage immersion. Dress it up a little. "Admiralty alert! Enemy fleet activity reported. Intercept and destroy." And when its over, not just a bare "Admiralty Event ended". This is why people say it's about as immersive as a lobby. "Admiralty directive. Stand down from alert and resume normal duties."
  11. And I think that NA is dangerously close to making it entirely possible for a defending nation to tag_and_kite delay an invading PB fleet into oblivion. I can only guess that it hasn't been happening because the "Can't join battles" lockout timer doesn't work for PBs. Now - even if tagged once, attackers have 30 seconds to get to the PB before they can be tagged again. If the Battles lockout timer gets fixed for PBs, defensive screeners will have 90 seconds to retag an attacker during the 120 sec lockout after the 30 sec attack timer lapses. Attackers could theoretically get to the PB marker swords but never have the chance to actually enter the PB. Time to tred very carefully before making any changes either way to the screening mechanic.
  12. Exactly. Top of the list for potential nations to be added in the first post-release additional content release.
  13. Oh I know - I was just clarifying the issue for MisterDe
  14. Yeah - this tripped me up the first time I used a medkit too, They don't go to your ship, they go to your crew reserves.
  15. Silly me, I didn't picture the blockade just being a modified PB instance. I'd be tempted to go for longer than 30 minutes, give the defense a chance to get organized - because we know that Sun Tsu will advise launching the attack at a low server population time. I thought your artwork was actually pretty good!
  16. That's strange! TBH can't remember exactly when I last reset them. Maybe a bug in one of the latest 9.97 hotfixes?
  17. You can redo the perks any way you like by right-clicking his name and selecting 'Reset'. The perks he has will be cleared and you'll get all the promotion points back (at present)
  18. I'm liking the direction this is trying to go but it's shy of details. I'm piecing together some questions and assumptions below to try to flesh it out. purchasing a flag against port 'X' warns the target nation that an attack from port 'Y' is underway? the flag bearer ship departs national port 'Y' and is accompanied by national/allied ships all the way to enemy port 'X' defenders have the duration of that voyage to intercept the attack fleet, get a defensive port fleet mustered. based on complaints about the old flag system, could we not impose a limit of 2 flags per nation per maintenance day? How is the flag 'planted'? By PB? Or by literal blockade - keeping the flag bearer ship inside the port 'Y' green protected zone or some larger area? Port Battle A raid needs a victory condition and raises the question of who gets the raid loot? A PB makes both easier to handle for the devs. May perpetuate the pattern of always the same captains doing the majority of the PB's. Need to define PB types for non-capital deep ports... always 5th rate? Blockade Somewhat unlimited participation - gets away from the 'elitist' image that PB's are getting. More of a free-for-all brawl that may be altogether more enjoyable and hopefully less prone to shenanigans. Regional hostility could build incrementally for as long as the blockade holds - what would be a reasonable period of time to go from 0 to 100%? What is the trigger condition to declare a raid a success? Holding the blockade for how long? Who gets the loot? As already suggested for PB's - is a limitation on defenders Outpost teleporting into the defending port for the duration of the PB or Blockade desirable?
  19. Maybe the wrong attitude, but I tend to ignore posts that predate the 9.96 patch. It's just such a different game now that a lot of the stuff from old threads doesn't apply. But I admit that's not really the case with this idea. If you search for 'map chart', there's over 100 results. Ugh - I'm not wading through that. The other thing is that it seems less effective to ping a thread from 18 months ago, or even 6. Best to fire off a new flare than try to reignite an old one.
  20. I'm not looking for SatNav or even a position indicator on the map. Just some very basic manual plotting by putting dots on the map that I chart myself according to the long/lat coords given. And of course a way to erase them - individually or entirely.
  21. Really? I've not seen a laptop case that's sealed. How can anyone service it in that case? All of ours have screws down the bottom edges and a few in the middle. There's a trim strip at the base of the screen that gets pried up. Then you can remove some screws under there to pry up the keyboard to expose the motherboard.
  22. Cooling issues are almost always caused by hair/fiber/dust on the inside of the grill where the fan blows the air out of the case. It builds up until it looks like a block of felt. I've cleaned that crap out of 3 of our family laptops. I've always watched Youtube videos for how to disassemble the outer case, keyboard and motherboard to get at the fan assembly. It's not that hard. Trickiest part is keeping track of which screws fit which holes. Some laptops are really nice and use the same screw size everywhere. Others - no. Reconnecting the wiring is no problem, just do the reverse of the disassembly video. My first time took about 6 hours, now I can do it in 3. Beats waiting two weeks and paying a service charge.
