Agree to disagree and take that out in Battles.

Write up treaties for the Good of the community, or let the world fall to Evil and witness Exterminatus (/Season End).

Choices ... choices ... I like choices. No mechanic should take that away. :D

As a Dutch player vet I have to say my playing patten hasn't 't changed with 40 ports or 5 ports , you only need the capital and free ports to have an enjoyable time, hell you don ' t even have to trade or sail risky trade routes, many other nations have been in this position before.

At this stage it literally changes nothing other than the odd whiner in nation chat and we all have to put up with that once and awhile don't we?

People change factions like a daily pair of socks anyway so there's always a way out for the casual.

Most impressive thing for me is the lack of moaning, blaming and excuses from the Dutch on the forum , it is what it is, just another cycle of naval action life.

Enjoy the Dutch hardcore mode before the patch , then hopefully thats when the real fun begins.

Getting hammered can be good for your faction. It will clear out a lot of glory hunters and profit merchants, and leave you with the rocks that your nation is built on. As long as those rocks don't brake the rest is not important. The fewer ports you have the easier it is to defend them, there are a lot more hostile NPC fleets to farm in your home waters and your members have less distance to sail to get involved in PVP. Noobs are getting farmed at every major capital regardless of how well the nation is doing in RVR. At least when a nation is down to one or two ports the vets are brought closer to the new players and not half way around the world on various fronts

You are only looking at it only from the RvRers bubble. :)

The problem is that good for the faction does not mean good for game.

It is true that once a faction has been hammered the hardcore RvR crowd plus few new die hards from rousing the general public (and it is easier to do so when the 'barbarians are at the gates') remain and so short term this means a boost to RvR capabilities.

Chaff, wheat and everything, however, losing players is harmful to the game because by "eliminating" people from a faction you get a lot of people who do not only turn their back on their faction but the game itself and may even harm the game's future by negative reviews etc.

It is in the RvR/PvP crowds own selfish interest not to p*** the PvEers off, it is the reservoir of future RvR players.

There may be a slightly wrong view on the part of the non-RvR players in thinking "dis nations sucks they be unorganized" (and a bit of irony because they are part of the problem when they are not contributing) but at the same time the game and the community make little to no attempts at explaining the realities of the shifting balances of power to the general player base.

They only see massive loss of ports of their faction and associate failure with their time spent in the faction/game and once it starts interfering with the solo players life, when production ports are overrun, capitals are camped and missions disturbed we are needlessly driving people away from this game.

Every nation had this experience since EA, and it has always been harmful. We need a safe zone, and good explanations that once you sail outside of it you are swimming in the big pond the sharks are hunting you and nothing is safe including property.

No one forced you to declare a alliance with the Brits, no one forced you to declare war to Spain, no one forced you to camp around mortimer town during weeks (in order to "convince" the pirate community to turn national (words of Praefect)), no one forced you to support an operation made to remove Spain from the RvR two weeks ago...

During entire months since the EA launch the Dutch has played an interesting diplomacy (friendly to a few and not hostile to most nations on the server, having several wars with the French which ends in peace treaties...) until YOU decided that those days were over.

I was amazed to see how the french begin their Panama campaign thanks to you (you let them take the needed ports in your territory) and despite of this actions you keep the friendship with the Brits. Smart diplomacy at its best.

Is it now impossible for the Dutch to play again like you did in the past? I'll say its all up to you.

no one forced spain to declare war on the british but you did and cried when you were attacked ...your 4 v1  zerg on the dutch is exactly what your were complaining about less than a month ago ..lets hope your words dont come back to bite you after the port reset and you start crying about how unfair it is again

you lack the honour of some of your fellow spanish captains that have posted on this thread

... whatelse, you dont get that its more important to keep the game alive than keep your fun closer to you capital.

I don't even have an outpost in Charleston, the US capital. The outpost was destroyed so I could have that extra slot to branch out. To me, the issue is making the fun spread around the map. I do not think that will be accomplished by having the 3 closest ports to your capital be non-capturable, it will only motivate people to bunker down all the time, during good times and bad.

In fact, I'd say a majority of the USA players recognize that Charleston is simply too out-of-the-way to be useful as a capital. Most shipbuilding operations are run out of free towns. My personal one being Cayman Brac. All of this should technically be confidential information but I only make it public so as to demonstrate why staying in the relative safety of your own capital is not always the best way to play the game. Take a smuggler into Charleston sometime and see the shop for yourself, we have no market. Everyone who is smart has left the capital.

My advice to any new player on the USA side is always the same: "Sail south." But then I hear so much whining about "oh sailing takes too long". It's just a matter of time before their fully-loaded trader gets ganked by a pirate/dane fleet out of Sunbury, but if they choose not to heed advice, then personally I do not care whether or not they leave the game. Like I said, no motivation.

During the Mexico campaign a few weeks ago, I was surprised to see players sailing in the gulf on the USA side that I'd never even crossed paths with before. Those are the people who will survive when (not if, because it will happen) the US faction gets 1-ported again. They probably haven't been to the capital since they created their character, and therefore they're not likely to suffer much, if at all, when the USA gets surrounded again.

And again and again... Ok guys.. keep spreading your senseless speach... Then, if you want to read, you might get the reason of keeping a save zone.

Clue: its not about where do you or your friends prefer to play, its about how newcomers would feel if they are ganked at the very first minute they play.

Cheers Gl&hf

On a side note, you haven't seen or heard much of me due to an extended vacation and some intensive businesstrips I had to make, but ....

The helpless comments related to current war might have been avoided if I had posted this topic in "Suggestion" instead of "National news"...

My fault with my apology.

Rumours are spreading about a new "system of secured zone" could be implemented in next patches,

We're here to test & help devs to release the best NA game

we're getting to it step by step !

Good wind all

True story.

There I was, taking a break on the east approach of Willemstad, sipping good Guinea blend coffee and playing liars dice with the captain's daughter ( i'm the captain !!! ) when out of the mist a flock of white appears - Sail 'ho ! - the crow boy shouts and point towards the Fort Oranje route.

As I raise the spyglass the rigging teams are already making her move, a beautiful pickle sloop named Goshawk although the armateur left her with the original sand burst primer color.

A snow trader with a mercury brig escort - All hands on deck men, we catch the bean before her passage ! - and we set on the attack. The mist was helpful and the wind was a trap.

The hollander tried all the tricks to no avail. In the end, upon surrendering its ship to us ( me and the 59 crew ) he let loose the following - "I'm tired of this shit."

P.S.- Was full cargo haul prize.

Hi,

wow, this escalated quickly... :-)

Allthough i see the benefits for new.players in creating a safe zone and all that stuff, there are other solutions aswell.

Ppl can login on pve, clans can train newbies there.

PVP1 is the premier league of NA, no place for gamers who cry over some lost pixel ship or port.

I finish a few remarks and questions about all the off topic gloating in this thread.

Current defense timer system makes war more boring than peace, crafting a flag to keep ppl in port wears all good gaming fun down.

I sincerely hope that the next patch will fix that.

As Tac said before, you dont need ports to have fun in this game, so we wish all the danes and swedes well in our former colonies. At least we dont have to sail far for danish beer...

Why are the dutch ruining the game if they sail with 11 brits in the east, but is it tough luck for the dutch if french flagcarriers escorted by danes and swedes roll of our ports?

The hypocrisy is real...

Get over it lads, dont cry when you got caught in the open, dont cry when the enemy doesnt do what you planned for him.

Its a wargame in the open world, enjoy it!

Honor. You do not know what that is.

Fact is: you were beaten to a handful of ports and instantly started crying and bitching on the forums (and haven't stopped to this day)

Now you are trying to do the same to the Dutch. So much for your honor.

Only difference: non of them are crying.

Your toxicity. In fact a moderator removed some of your comments due to "cancer discussion". See "Spain is at War" thread if you dont remember it.

And yes, we declare war on Britain (what a surprise) but our complain was about the timers your guys set to the ports with the only goal that even british captains have admitted. On the contrary, the Dutch could retake the ports at their primetime. A chance we didnt have.

your calling me toxic and you make a post like that     you know the cancer comment was made by alex sd one of your own ..trying to pin that on me shows how low you are ... since spain have set fiji timers themselves you are now no better ..you lost the upper hand in that argument ...so really you have nothing to complain anymore so we are all done .... thanks for taking your time to reply to my posts  i dont mind you trolling ..just try and get a little better ;)

My 2 points.

New players, maybe up to 1st Lt should not be seen or see anyone above their rank in ow. This would allow a gradual introduction to the game. They wil be able to do missions and even engage in PvP with equal ranks. Smuggler should not be allowed during this.

2. Alliances should not have breaks in between voting. We were allied with Dutch, but lost that for 2 days because not enough people voted or some other mechanic. You should have to vote to break alliance. This meant my ships were stuck in Dutch port waiting for Alliance to resume.

It sounds like people are arguing for the way of PotBS, a game that started full open ocean pvp and later dumbed down to red zones.

I think the Spanish are more sensitive to this issue than any other nation because they were the first in the game to watch player after player and clan after clan leave the Spanish nation as they were reduced on all fronts. Since then many nations have seen reduction multiple times and have also felt the burn from the loss of player base. The nations that are reduced now fair better than the Spanish in the early days because the player base is getting more used to the fact that a nation can be reduced such but it is evidently still driving people away.

I am open to discuss with the nations the idea put forward by Celtiborofrog. I have a few concerns. First, I think it is a bad idea to limit pvp in any area. I'd rather see an agreement to end pvp against low ranked players in ships below a Navy Brig unless you are also in a ship lower than a Navy Brig. These "safe" zones will be used to hide in and will work against the pvp goals of the server.

I am very open to protected ports though. This would eliminate a nation being reduced to nothing and it will give the nation an easier return which is ultimately what most of us want. It will also eliminate the abuse of blockading that has the potential to prevent players from even leaving port. That would drive more players away than anything else I would think.

Second, the Pirates. I am a roll player when it comes to the pirates. I don't care about their player base. I believe pirates should be hard mode and not for the faint of heart. There are already to many pirates imo. I am concerned if they are not included in this agreement and I'm not sure if you could get them to agree. The pirates are not a nation. They are a bunch of clans and individuals that often work together but we have seen pirate clans that had different approaches to how they played the game. I respect that. I'm also concerned that if the pirates were not a part of the agreement then they could be used by nations to do what they can't do according to the treaty. I would feel more comfortable with this proposal if all nations broke ties with the pirates and saw them as a common enemy. Then I think this proposal would have a chance of success.

This topic has devolved into off topic shit throwing. And most amusingly it doesn't even involve the Dutch, which this topic is mostly about.

It seems the Dutch are handling their predicament pretty nicely. Everyone else on the other hand...

When players are even whining on behalf of other nations...

Can't we all just get a grip? Let's have all just have nice big port battles. Patch is coming up soon. Apart from Spain, nobody has any use in placing ships far from home waters already.

Count how many ships you sink, not how many ports you capture.
