Double tap A and the rudder will go full port/left.  You don't have to hold the key down once you've done that.  Helps a lot while manning yards.  To stop it, click A again to release it and return to neutral rudder.

In regards to switching from Nations, it should be difficult and have penalties like perhaps a percentage less from missions and/or it costing more to aqcuire items from your new "Nation".

 

You should be limited on how often you could switch nations and these penalties should perhaps be stacked but not necessarily at the same rate for example;

 

You go from England to France so you get perhaps 10% less from missions but then you decide to switch back(After waiting the appropriate amount of time) and then it ends up being 15% less now since you sort of "betrayed" England (I am sure IRL during war time this would be rather unacceptable but for playability sake).

 

However you can get a reputation for switching but if you switch to a nation you weren't previously aligned with, the penalty may be lessened for example;

Switch from England to France so 10% less from missions but if you were to switch to say Spain it might be 12% off from missions.

 

It should be possible to lessen these penalties over time and through service to the new nation but I feel like it shouldn't be reduced to 0% penalties outside of your "home" country because reasons =P (A soldier who fought for your enemy may not be 100% trusted throughout their life as a result of this)

 

I am not sure how the devs plan to do time from real life to in game but it should perhaps be equivalent to a year in game? Up to the devs to determine.

 

You should be highly penalized, however, for becoming a pirate. It should be next to impossible to switch from being a pirate. In real life, they could be compared at least slightly in reputation to ISIL(ISIS) as I doubt many countries will be very accepting of former supporters and fighters of ISIL. That being said, this is a video game and I don't think pirates were trying to rule the world so it should be possible to switch from being a pirate, again after a LOT of time. I feel like many people will start off and go pirate but they will quickly realize, this may have been a terrible idea and so they can lessen their pirate activity to perhaps speed up the time to switch and once switching, they will get perhaps twice the penalties or more that would be incurred from switching from a nation to a nation and there should always be a penalty regardless of it being the individuals home nation.

 

However, this is all at least I would guess 6 months off before we start seeing the actual open world stuff so there is a lot of time to make these decisions but overall;

 

1. There should be penalties for switching from Nation to Nation

2. There should be a waiting period between switching nations

3. Pirates should take MUCH longer to be able to switch

4. Pirate penalties should be much more then from switching from nation to nation and once a pirate, you will always have some penalty on mission rewards and building ships.

Well I think the nations will be real but people will be able to create guilds and (I forgot the word but) groups that are different then guilds haha. I believe guilds are supposed to be more economical and the other type of groups is more military esq and these are to be based inside of nation like the Traders of Wales would be based in the nation of England and would trade under them and the Defenders of Scottish Trade would be that military type group that might focus on defending merchants and other ships from an area in English waters.

 

I could be completely wrong about that BUT I don't believe people will be able to create their own nations to my knowledge and my interpretations of several post by devs and other players.

I may be completely reading too much into this:

 

 

2. You pay for as many as you want up to 24. 5 attackers will be countered by 5 escorts.. of the similar class +/- 1 level.

2a. Its a Navy order and you are a captain of the Navy. There is a risk of course. You might face insurmountable odds and lose. But you will fulfill the order from your superiors.. that's more important. Executing orders from higher rank NPC or Players is the only way to get better ranks in the Navy. 

3. Pirates are criminals who attack shipping without the letter of marque. We provide all the tools to experience "A pirate life for me". Pirates are not a nation. Pirates are KOS for everyone so banding up will not be reasonable because they will most likely attack each other. 

4. Depends on the population. You can always decline the invite. At the alpha it wont matter.

 

In response to a post asking what would happen if pirates all ganged up together to raid ports and shipping:

that will make them a nation. a hostile nation.

Hi all just had my first day playing this game, played a bunch of PVE battles and my first PVP lost that one, still fun.

 

Here are my thoughts from a new player.

 

1. The game play has been fun.

2. The sounds are great

3. The graphics look spot on to me.

4. Very stable so far.

5. Only real problem I had in the Lynx twice the square sail on the formast would not work, but that may very well have been something I did or did not do correct.

yea, one time I got "stuck" in "skipper - manual" instead of "skipper - auto" like most of my voyages are.

 

In "skipper - manual" my sails didn't work as I thought they should.

 

What's the difference - and how do I toggle

 

The difference between auto and manual skippers is that in auto, the game sets the best possible positions for your sails. In manual you will have to do that yourself.

You toggle using the [F] key

In manual skipper you use [Q] and [E] for the front sail and [Z] and [C] for the rear sales.

You have to kind of "play" with the sails a little bit to figure it out. Make sure you know the heading of the wind.

A quick correction - strike "Best possible" position for your sails and make it "situation that works". Auto-skipper doesn't always set the best possible angle for your sails, and nor should it. This is especially apparent when you're lying close to the wind or in irons and need the bow to move a certain way. Auto-skipper just means that, at a loss of overall speed and control, you can generally keep your ship moving in the direction you want it to. When you take over manual control and have a good idea of what you're doing, you can far exceed auto-skipper in certain situations.

I have some Question to this which i don't found out in the forum or the site (maybe im to dump for it).

 

Will the game Multiplayer Only like an MMO, or willt it also have a Singleplayerpart like good old Pirates?

 

Multiplayer is developed first, then some single player content will be added.

 

 

Btw is the original post still current?

 

A lot of it has been implemented already, some points are still being developped.

Ipimus sits quietly on the dock.. small tears fall into the bay as he watches the last Alpha ship leave, her sails slowly taking a breath, no longer restrained, glad to be free. Ipi watches her go, his heart burning, he screams out to sea 'I SHOULD'VE BEEN ON THAT.... ME!!..ME!!'. His rage dies as the wind takes it, gulls raucously reply as they take flight... drowning out his embittered, futile, words....'shouldah bin me on her.. me... me...'

Tears fall quietly like his sobs...

The Alpha  takes flight as she gathers speed..

Ipi looks longingly.. feeling his hopes fly with her..

'Sniff..'sholdah.. bin me..'

A long forlorn sigh escapes him...mebbe next time...just mebbe?

  • Skill trees will be mostly passive - as you will have your hands full with firing and sailing
  • Skills will be XP based (certain skills will be census/time based). Some skills will could only be unlocked through certifications/exams. 
  • Map not sure yet. Most likely there will be both options (random world), and current real world. We have not made a decision yet.
  • You can be an English Pirate yes.

 

 

Good, makes it more realistic this way.
