  1. It really depends on your play style (PvE, PvP/E or PvP). And it might be a matter of tuning : - if a PvE server remains open alongside PvP server(s), all AI could be agressive in the PvE server and, as you proposed, only a small group of bots could be aggressive in the PvP server, - if both servers are merged into a PvP/E server with a protected PvE zone, the same as above could be implemented : all bots agressive in the PvE zone vs some bots in the PvP/E area. That said, it's very easy to avoid being attacked by bots. It only takes a bit of attention and avoid coasts. So all AI could easily be aggressive everywhere...
  2. Bots used to attack players before Dec. 2015 patch. I hope AI aggressiveness will be reimplemented someday. A long-awaited feature. Maybe when/after AI is improved : The problem with this feature as long as developed features are identical for PvPers and PvEers might be that pure PvPers would really dislike being attacked by bots while PvEers (and PvP/E players) really need that feature.
  3. A ship with 20 guns, not 28... So let's refocus this conversation. We were talking about XVIIIth century 28-gun ships with armed QD firing 8-pdrs. And you stated that French Navy considered them as Corvettes. I asked you for sources. I'm still waiting. And I can wait for long because in France : - till the war of American Independence, Frigates used 8-pdrs guns and some had armed QD but Corvettes used 4-pdrs and 6-pdrs and some had QD but unarmed. - from that time on, Corvettes used that caliber (and others) ; some had QD but unarmed till the model of 1824 I've already mentioned. At that time, Frigates abandoned 8-pdrs and used bigger calibers. No 28-gun French Corvette with armed QD firing 8-pdrs. Call her a "light frigate". As long as you don't post the copy of an original plan of a 28-gun French ship with armed QD firing 8-pdrs entitled "Plan of a XVIIIth century French Corvette" (or an historical record of her), this conversation goes nowhere. 28 guns is just too much for a French Corvette till 1824. Number of guns on Corvettes : - First half of the 18th century : 4-16 guns - Second half : 12-20 guns - 1793 : up to 24 guns - French Revolution - 1st Empire : 20-24 guns - 1827 : 18, 24, 32 guns
  4. I repeat : "sources" stating "the C18th French navy bought them as corvettes" ? You'd better watch the original French plans of XVIII-th century 8-pdr Frigates calling them... "Frégates" in Boudriot's book (see eg p. 71-73) accordingly to Boudriot's classification.
  5. May I have the sources stating "the C18th French navy bought them as corvettes" in the first place ? I'm interested. I'm going with scientific/archaeologic classifications as a classification helps understanding the world. And a corvette is a corvette. A light frigate a frigate. But words are not essential for a game.
  6. Those ships were larger than Corvettes, carried more guns than Corvettes and had armed QD unlike Corvettes... Now some might have been recorded as Corvettes back in those days as you stated but that doesn't mean much (beside approximations in naming), does it ? Boudriot classify those ships firing 24 guns of 8-pdrs + 4 guns of 4-pdrs (on QD) and whose length is 117'-126' as 8-pdr frigates (History of the French Frigate, p. 88). Call them light frigates. His first and main criteria when discriminating Corvettes and Frigates is the number of guns and their caliber (with unarmed QD when there's one). Terminology...
  7. Those 24-gun corvettes are said to have been unappreciated by French captains. Btw only 5 were built. The 20 gun 6-pdr corvette-aviso without quarterdeck and forecastle and based on the plan of La Diligente by Ozanne (1801) was much more appreciated (for her speed especially) and her plan will be reused in 1822-26 with 18 guns (http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/7682-french-corvettes-collection-6th-rates-with-plans/?p=153304).
  8. btw c. 1801, French ships armed with 28 12-pdrs guns are not Corvettes, but Frigates (see History of the French Frigates, p. 133). French Corvettes at that time only carry 20 6-pdrs guns or 20, 22 or 24 guns of 8-pdrs (see Boudriot's La Créole). One has to wait for 1827 to have a model of French Corvette with 32 caronades (beside the regular Corvettes with 18 or 24 guns). Not really a Corvette anymore in fact with her spardeck and length (42, 28 m).
  9. Current implemented Economy makes all captains more or less privateers in fact. We earn money when we sink an enemy of our nation, we buy and repair our ships... What might be needed is a naval officer career such as :
  10. Et c'est grâce à certains des 1254 messages de Surcouf que tu as pu jouer 1000 h... Faut des joueurs et des experts N'empêche : on t'attend toujours dans le jeu, Surcouf. PS : c'est vrai, t'as fayoté
  11. Right now, with a cargo hold of about 100t., 6th rate ships (such as the Rattlesnake or the Mercury) can’t be used for missions of wreck discovery + fishing during the voyage as the weigh of the treasure trove is already about 100 t. Best ships for that are currently trader lynx. Increasing the cargo hold of 6th Rates up to say 200-300 t. would make it possible to use them in missions for wrecks + fishing and would : - give Explorers another activity during those missions : fight against enemy traders and 6th Rates, - be historically accurate, as 20-gun Corvettes such as the Spanish Descubierta or the Russian Mirny were used as Exploration vessels : http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/7768-exploration-and-survey-ships/?p=140881 http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/7768-exploration-and-survey-ships/?p=147078 Another option would be to implement a Exploration version of the 6th Rates already in game with more cargo (and less guns ?), e.g. an Explo-Rattlesnake…

  13. I like the shed on the Bucentaure. A matter of taste... PS : a Centaur has the lower body of a horse and the upper body of a human ; a Bucentaure is a centaur with the lower body of a bull or an ox ; the Minotaur has the body of a man and the head of a bull.
  14. Let's historical data and specialists (Boudriot) speak : - during the XVIII-th century and till 1824, a corvette in the French Navy is a small 3-masted ship with 12 to 24 guns (reference is 20) and a length of 50-100 ft. By 1767, Corvettes look like Frigates. The only differences lie in the caliber of their guns (8 for the corvette and 12-pdr for the frigate) and the length of their hull. - in 1824, a new kind of Corvette appears, much bigger and longer with 28 carronades and 4 guns and a length of 42 meters (La "corvette de 32 à batterie couverte") (≠ British Corvettes : the word "corvette" starts to be used in the Royal Navy around 1830 (?) as a catch-all term) That's why the Rattlesnake is the closest thing to a French Corvette in NA (even though she is really small). And it would be nice to have 1-2 more ships of that kind in NA . 15. One word, two langages, 150 years = ten définitions...
  16. Of the ingame ships, the Rattlesnake is indeed the closest to the XVIIIth century French definition of a Corvette (3-masted about-20-gun ship).
  17. L'admin a confirmé son intention à terme de fermer le server PvE et de parquer les joueurs PvE sur la côte ouest des Amériques, côté Pacifique sur le server PvP.
  18. What about non-combat gameplay ? Any incentives for long-distance voyages across the map ? No non-combat gameplay except fishing, trading and crafting ? No Exploration for ressources ? No more 100% PvE experience across the Caribbean, just a (empty ?) carebear zone to learn the ropes from which anybody would hurry and escape ? Too bad indeed that Pacific isn't used for Exploration I can understand development focus on combat gameplay and PvE/PvP server merging, economically speaking On the other hand, some expected features are great, such as fleets, AI improvements, crew or officer management But well...
  19. I guess part of devs' reasoning is rather simple : 1) AI transferring players' ships in OW from point A to point B gives priority to OW PvE 2) Players personally transferring their ships in OW gives priority to OW PvP
