  1. From this poll? We don't know yet, nor will we until the poll is closed and we can see which ships won; that's the whole point of the thing.
  2. I believe now I understand, Mademoiselle, why you so lately rejected my advances, and why you stated that consorting with one such as myself would be an act tantamount to treason: You are not simply a concerned relative or lover, and your words were not said merely from a patriotic heart. Unless I am gravely mistaken, you are in the Caribbean in the service of your King.
  3. Treason? Dear, dear. So I have truly lost all chance with you already? Oh well, my beautiful Rosaire will be happy, even if she's all the way back home in Rouen; to hear me speak to another woman in the way that I have spoken recently to you would make her temper flame as bright a shade of red as her hair. (Although not that she should feel right in judging me, given her profession...)
  4. We don't have a three-decker 2nd rate, though, and Christian VII's been repeatedly passed over for other ships in previous polls. I'd say it's her time to shine.
  5. Uh, she's a 40-gun ship, isn't she? I think that makes her a 5th rate.
  6. I, however, fair lady, am French, and in my country we are not exactly known to view romance as... strictly as it is viewed in yours. Surely, while no man in his right mind would liken you to a prostitute, you are not so different as to deny yourself some of life's simple pleasures? After all, life is short and fraught with danger, and we must seek what enjoyment we can while we are still in possession of it. I see no better way to do so than in the company of so stately and beautiful woman as yourself.
  7. Mademoiselle, I know not the gentleman of whom you speak. However, if it's pleasure from me that you're looking for, I would be truly glad to assist you in that regard...
  8. That is something of a crappy article, if you ask me.
  9. Presumably because he didn't know what irony was.
  10. That sounds fair enough (I guess), but we should be allowed to capture them, though. That way, they might not be as common as other vessels (that are craftable/purchasable), but players could still get their hands on them if they wanted.
  11. She's old, alright, but strangely enough... I like her. And I don't normally say that about 17th Century ships. Accepted timeline aside, I wouldn't mind seeing her ingame.
  12. There are already at least a few ship models made by players. However, as far as I know, none of them have been confirmed to have been approved by the devs for implementation into the game yet.
  13. It's amazing what can happen when someone screws up.
  14. I was under the assumption that they wouldn't announce a closing date ahead of time; that they'd just close the poll at some point and with no warning, and that we'd just have to hope that our preferred ship was in 1st or 2nd place when it happened.
  15. Ahahahaha. The crew of the Superb must've had a good laugh at the Spaniards' expense, as they were sailing away. I bet the whole British fleet at Gibraltar did, too, when the Superb and her crew came back to tell the tale.
  16. Both ships are Rattlesnakes, I do believe. (Look at the figurehead in the foreground )
  17. It's too early to tell what ships are going to win the poll right now, IMO. I agree that Diana seems to basically be guaranteed with the way things are going, but 2nd place has been going back and forth for a while, with Admiraal de Ruyter, Venus, and Christian VII all being in 2nd at one time or another. For the past couple of days, Venus and Christian VII have been trading the spot, alternatively leading or being led by just a couple of votes. It seems too early to tell which ship will take 2nd place, then, and we also won't know what the developer wildcard is going to be until the devs tell us.
  18. I'm not sure why they wouldn't be introduced into the game, if they're within its time period.
  19. Good questions. Unfortunately, I don't have the answers. None of my sources were overly informative, IIRC; I think I got the 400 guns figure from El Morro's UNESCO World Heritage Site webpage.
  20. Anybody who hasn't taken a look at San Juan harbor in Google Maps/Earth, do so. There are sections of wall running along both sides of the peninsula from El Morro at the tip to Castillo de San Cristobal (the other big fort) facing inland. Then there's another tower out on an island in the middle of the entrance to the harbor, if I remember correctly. I wrote a short essay on the Defenses of San Juan a few months ago, and I'm pretty sure one of my sources said that at its peak, El Morro and the other defenses held over 400 guns.
  21. De Ruyter has 80 guns. Christian VII has 90. Besides, I know that this poll isn't about filling in gaps, but we already have one 80-gunner ingame and another in development, and we don't have any ~90-gun three-decker 2nd rates. Christian VII could be a very nice ship to have, if only to help bridge the gap between the 80-gunners and the 1st rates.
