  1. Edward, Surely your OP is sarcasm, or you are trolling. The video you posted is silly, ... with pretty graphics, but silly.
  2. Z4y makes an excellent point. All the things in The DLCs should be available to purchase in game.
  3. Oberon makes a good point. Having a digital azimuth displayed in the optics is more modern than what would have been available in the age of sail. Personally I wouldn't like to see a compass inside the spyglass, but the game would be improved if the view matched the direction with or without the spyglass. Seems to be a flaw that the view jumps to a different facing with a spyglass raised. Having expressed my preference I don't care if other players have the option to see a direction inside the spyglass. But please allow us an option to toggle it off, or turn it off in the options. At the very least disable it with Ctrl H feature.
  4. The ignore list is very helpful. Both in the forums and ingame chat.
  5. Interesting thread. This game might get boring for players who enjoy detailed strategy or complex simulators, I see no reason why kids would not enjoy it ... for a while. I have never played minecraft but the images that I have seen are nowhere close to the graphics of NA. Having more interesting ports would be cool, but I would be happy if I could just turn off the names that float in the air over them.
  6. It would also be more than wonderful if the view from the deck was available in battle AND it was possible to issue orders to the crew. I would be over the moon if the crew would "fire at will" and I was free to watch the crew perform their duties.
  7. I can imagine how frustrating it would be to be to get excited about a computer game, figure out how to work steam, how to download the game, how to start it and then not be able to operate the guns. Don't be too sure that you are 100% certain that he did not have an issue that no one else has ever encountered. You guy are likely correct that he was trying to fire in OW, but unless you have the facts you can't be sure. Someone who is certain, before determining the facts, lacks credibility. I'm not a gamer and have a lot of difficulty with simple system tasks that seem easy and common sense to people who have grown up gaming. I've asked for lots of help here at NA and am pleased at the usual friendly response. The majority of the time NA players are outstanding, and I get lots of helpful guidance, even from enemy players. But a few times I have been ignored, and on a rare occasion, or two, I received an insult instead of assistance. It's not uncommon to get an answer that I don't understand. I don't think it is too far fetched to image he may have asked for a solution and been unsuccessful, or he didn't know how to ask. I realize that this community has fostered a culture that frowns upon posting negative reviews about Naval Action, but insulting someone who had a tough time doesn't make us look very friendly. Definitely doesn't help promote the game. When I read Wind's post I was wondering "How could a player not get his cannons to work?" and "How could we help him". It is discouraging if the public see's a common NA response of --- "you just can't fix stupid".
  8. Would it be a good thing if the game forces nations to co-operate, or to fight? Kind of defeats the nature of MMO OW Sandbox, no? Would pirates be considered a nation?: Would we be forced to help them? Seems to me it would be difficult to; maintain a story line, or create meaningful international business agreements, if we are continually flipping our loyalties. Then again, there is no real connect between combat and trade in the game. We can just ignore alliances unless we are in a battle.
  9. That is a very good map also. I use if often, but it is not similar to the Royal Danish Norwegian Map. The Royal Danish Norwegian Map is an online version of what Shrouded Recluse offered as a download.
  10. Does anyone know how long the link has been broken or if it will be fixed. This was a great map and worked very well as a base for navigation. http://justisdepartementet.org/naval-action-map
  11. I'm not able to get a view from the deck unless I use the camera view, or the aiming view in a battle. When I use the aiming view I can't turn all the way around: I can only have about 180 degrees view before it jumps up above the deck. The game would be improved if the ship could be controlled in camera view both in an instance, and in the OW. This shouldn't be too much of a hardship for PvPers as they don't have to use the camera view.
  12. I wholeheartedly agree, but I still like sailing in this game. I suspect that if the Devs improved sailing, more people would play. The improvements could have little or no impact on impatient PvPers. Trading is also important. It gives us a reason to craft and sail.
  13. Hmmm ... I must be missing something in the 'aim' view. I can right mouse click and lock myself in the center of the ship, on the deck, in an instance and I can look from side to side ... but I can't move around on the deck unless I am in camera view. And if I look too far to the left or the right, when aiming, the view jumps up above the deck again.
  14. I would like to see improvements to open world sailing. 1) Compass, timepiece, pendant, sextant and chip log on toggled keybindings 2) Ability to control ship while using camera view, so we can sail ships from the deck view. 3) Option to remove port text titles. 4) OW ship markings to identify ship's nationality with UI turned off. 5) Non-combat instances to allow players to trade or interact with fleet ships. Although it is impossible, (or just that the Devs are opposed), I would love to see: 1) Whaling 2) OW ship damage from collisions with other ships and shorelines 3) instance storms with ship/sail/mast damage. 4) Exploration to discover and extract resources outside of ports. 5) Wind and current drift.
  15. Does anyone know why it would be so difficult to program trading in OW? Or is it one of those E-sport competitive gaming restrictions?
  16. I agree that it is very difficult to find a human escort. I've been fortunate to find an excellent escort, a few times. But it is very rare. The fleet AI is not competent. Fleet ships can be trade ships while the player controls a warship and is the escort ... Or sometimes the AI fleet can target sails and allow me to escape.
  17. I can only position myself on the deck with the camera view, and when I do I am unable to control the ship. I use the camera view to move along the deck and experience looking out at the wave top level. I can also use the keys to climb the mast for a "all round look". Wish it were possible to control the ship from on the deck ... But it is not.
  18. There is a depth and richness to the story created by player interactions that would be very difficult to achieve with in-game restrictions. The open world sandbox has limitless opportunities. My character has experienced a facinating journey during the last couple years. A story of; assistance and treachery, friends and foes, gifts and ganks, being hopelessly lost and pinpoint timely arrivals. The outcomes are never certain and I have little idea what will happen around the next cape. I cannot imagine the Devs creating anything close.
  19. I think there are players who would like a game with less distractions and more content. NA feels like you are playing an e-sport game. It's difficult to imagine the genuine age of sail experience. - Speedboats rocketing around at unworldly speeds, - Spaceship style information HUD rather than old world instruments, - Giant text floating above ports that can never be turned off, - Teleportation in the 1700s , - No deck perspective. The ship can only be controlled when you are nailed to the mast high above the deck. - Combat is limited to a little toy boat perspective - a view from the captain's eyes is not an option. - The tall ship hunt and chase of an old time era has been sanitized from the game to appease players who seek quick combat without waiting. I can understand players like Killick who want a game that recreates the age of sail. Where the priority is not as much on impatient fighting, but it is about an experience of standing on a wooden deck a long time ago.
  20. Jean, you have summed it up very well. I like the proposal to add old time authenticity to OW with a few optional sailing features. To ignore OW development begs the question; Why have it at all? If NA is a combat simulator, and OW sailing is loathed by so many, why retain OW? I think that many PvPers would appreciate a teleport-to-nearest-enemy button.
  21. Thank you Baptiste, Your words are enlightening. I never considered that many of the players that are unable to find balanced competitive PvP blame it on OW sailing. They desperately want to fight someone and feel like they are forced to travel about aimlessly. Reminds me of a hunter who is running about in the forest frantically wishing he could find a deer and begins to hate the trees and shrubs. But trees are not the problem. The solution is learning to find deer quickly, not in removing all the shrubs. Your second point is very valid. Creating a working economy is essential. There is very little point traveling anywhere if viable trade is not feasible. So far I'm content with very limited goals, but I imagine most are not.
  22. I agree. I expected to find lots of people who enjoyed sailing and was very surprised to find such strong opposition to it. After years of listening to to the hate towards realism and immersion, I have accepted that suggestions to make long distance travel more interesting will not be received favorably. It seems that there are lots of very impatient gamers who seek a fast path to competition, cannon fire and ship destruction. From what I read in the forums, those of us who are looking for age of sail authenticity are silly extremists.
