Cuthbert Collingwood
If it's guns you want the French Flagship at The Battle of The Nile, The Orient, was an Ocean class ship carrying 118 guns. She disintegrated when her powder magazine caught fire and exploded. Many would say that the French designed and built better ships and indeed if a French ship was captured by The Royal Navy it would often be taken into the fleet. Where the Royal Navy outclassed the French was in the quality and experience of its crews and officers. The French revolution decimated their naval officer class and their ships never got the sea time to give their crews the needed experiencee and training, This was in no small part thanks to the Royal Navy mounting a constant watch over the major French naval ports so that they could not put to see without attracting an immediate response. Mass
I dont want guns i want the redoutable because its so damn epic and we need somthing that can stand up to Bellona
Lord Hood
I don't understand how in your terms "it is so damn epic". It was a relatively generic French third rate. The reason the ship made such a name for itself was due to her marksmen not necessarily due to the ship itself. Nevertheless it would be nice to see a French third rate implemented. Surcouf
The Redoutable or the Téméraire or other 74-guns, no matter as it is a vessel of the Sané-Borda type. They are all idantiques only name changes.
Sir_Wiener_Von_Snitzel
Its a cool ship but it looks like a cross over between the santisima and the victory, i rather see some more varia differents in the ship
MarcoRossolini
I think I can see the OP's point in that, if I guess right, this is the redoubtable of Trafalgar which faced off against the Victory and was raked by the Temeraire. I'd love to see this in game at some point for its importance in that battle.
weirdguy
What Surcouf said. A 74 gun 3rd rate ship of the line from the Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars are all pretty much the same. Bellona is not much different than Redoutable. The differences are so minor that you might not even notice them.

Dagann
The Redoutable and the Téméraire, are from the same class made by Sané from 1782, as said Surcouf Bellona, even if it is a 74, is another ship (1760)
Surcouf
Yes, the English and French ships are very different design. For framing, for mast and also the sails. The Bellona is very different of Sané type.
SchurkjeBoefje
Redoutable from 1791 was a Temeraire class 74 and I'll eat my own testicles if the Temeraire 74's won't make it into the game. So don't worry. It will be in.
maturin
Yes, the English and French ships are very different design. For framing, for mast and also the sails. The Bellona is very different of Sané type. How do French-built masts and sails differ? I have only ever read of very minor differences.
McGuinness
The temeraire class was one of the finest 74er ever built. Faster and more maneuverable than the british counterparts...thats what the brits said about these formidable french ships. And this class was the most numerous sail ship class ever built. ....and...it so much more beautifull than the old Bellona is. this ship class is a must like the conny and Vic is. Lord Hood
French ships were built for speed and manoeuvrability as they were used in more mission based tactics (as shown by many decisions made when engaging the British or moving on to achieve initial objectives as landing troops et cetera) whereas the British ships were built for a slug fest in decisive actions. French ships were definitely built to a better degree although when copper bottoms came in the British ships actually ended up being faster as was shown when Nelson completely overtook the French on their way to Egypt. The ships ended up being very similar as French designs were incorporated into British ones. I look forward to a great diversity with warships within the game. Surcouf
The first picture concerning the Suffren of 90-gun . This is not a Sané type ship, but the drawings of the Commission de Paris in 1824. Same first name of the Redoutable, but different ship.
marecek05
I have a picture of dismasted redoubtable at my office. Nice ship. I would however prefer slightly bigger Tonnant or Bucentaure. Ships designed to be "super 74s" therefore with 80 guns :-D...
Surcouf
in France there are two types of 74-gun Sane. large 74-gun and small 74-gun. OTMatt
Would this ship be equipped with 42 pounders in the game since there is no 36 pounders?
Malachi
36 french pounds are 38,84 lb, so 42-pounders seem to be a reasonable 'upgrade'.
