  1. Could be overkill. I was really thinking one on the fore course. I'd be happy with a flag TBH
  2. That's ridiculous. We're talking about something 'era" appropriate. Already mentioned a Cross fro Spanish. Skull for pirates. Some kind of effeminate symbol for the Brits...
  3. I don't see an immersion problem. There is plenty of historical precedent. Sails with logos might be too much (I like it), but identifying pennants were prevalent. Squadron and fleet pennants were everywhere. As far as realism goes, all the clean whit sails we see in this game are a lie. Most sails were patched and weathered.
  4. 2, 3. In reality a 1st rate wouldn't take much more room than a 3rd. They were built upwards, not necessarily outwards. HMS Victory in Portsmouth is surprisingly small. Might be shorter than Constitution...
  5. I love this game because I am a fan of this era and like the historical accuracy in most cases. I agree that there are far more 1st Rates in this game than we saw in reality. The problem is weighing game play against history. Everyone in the game wants to drive the Rolls Royce (insert luxury car of choice here). In reality, the 3rd rate was the Line of Battle workhorse and I would love to see that return. I just cant think of any way to make it fair to limit any player in choice of ships. If I buy a game that has HMS Victory in it, I want to drive that ship. The best idea I have heard (this is not the first time the subject has come up) is to crank up maintenance costs to 1st and 2nd rates. I also very much like the idea of a consequence for losing a 1st rate.
  6. I have to admit, it would make Identification during battle much easier.
  7. I think historically the Spanish had a cross on their courses, but no other nations? I'm not a complete purist so maybe a fore course symbol. Otherwise a main mast flag/pennant. Its a great idea.
  8. Whilst I hate that dead crew can be revived (hate it!), If we were going to have this, I like the idea that different beverages would have different power (to create our zombies). To keep it simple, it would be best to leave it with the "Surgeon" function. He would simply use the best option available until used up and then go to the next one down.
  9. I have spoken to several players on this subject. The hunters are laughing at the reinforcments because they are so easy to avoid and the newer players who are attacked in the green zone are astonished that their reinforcments are so useless. Nation chat is full of players complaining about reinforcements that don't help. I'd say that it is a failure in this incarnation. If you want it to effectively protect players in the green zone, this is not it. It is definitely no challenge to the hunters.
  10. Then ANY time you board, you should not get PVP marks. Only if you sink it by cannon fire. Because as many people have stated on this thread and on others, once you board a ship its yours. By that logic, if you scuttle instead of keep, you're destroying your own ship. Why do you get PVP marks for sinking your own ship???
  11. Yes, those 900 down below are continuing to pound broadsides into the opponent. If there is no target, they're coming up
  12. I don't have numbers, but I can say for sure that a Victory size warship was never taken by a Prince
  13. It looks like the collective opinion of the small minority who post on this forum is split. Most players (and all of the players who have been boarded by the pros) might be very happy with DD.
  14. Once again its the mods. If you have the gear, you play the boarding game. If you don't, you lose when you get rammed. very weak.
  15. It really is two different issues. Traders should be very vulnerable to boarding. Military vessels should not be.
  16. I dislike the whole focus on boarding as a preferred tactic, but understand that it is a big part of many player's game. To be fair to history, however, there should be an ability for other ships to join in on the boarding.
  17. I like it, but it needs a morale input. If you look historically, Boarding was generally successful against ships that had been severly beaten already, either from heavy damage/casualties and/or reduced morale.
  18. Very good point.. I guess i'm thinking more for a newer player (which I am). When you're grinding up, its very disappointing to get the lower XP from a capture when it would have been easier to just blast it to splinters
