  1. Since there where thousands of male pirates for each female that should really not be a surprise.
  2. Will not change a thing. The result is that still we get a stupid unhistorical limits and the players will min/max within the limit.
  3. The US should not even be in the game. Also they could and did build them... They just didn't use them. So I find them rather irrelevant to the question. 3rd rates was the backbone of the fleets and they should be so in this game.
  4. Read the post I originally replied to. He suggested limiting ALL SOLs and forcing half the ships to be 5th rate or smaller. And that is simply not historical when you look at the big battles in history. The none SOL make up at most 1/3 of the ships and often much fewer. And it will not make for a better gaming experience mixing small ships and 1st rates. the 3rd rate should be the norm. Iam all for trying to limit 1st and 2nd rates... but not with hard rules for the battles. Use price, durability, maybe add upkeep for the big ships or something... Even better, make the BP maps have different debts of water... so 1st rates can only be used in some parts of the map. (Like at Copenhagen, where Nelson only used the smaller SOLs, and even then he had ships hit the bottom)
  5. Would have thought this was common knowledge. At Trafalgar the brits had 27 SOLs and 6 smaller ships. 3 1st rates, 4 2nd rates and 20 3rd rates. The same for the franco spanish fleet, only 7 smaller ships. or Cape St. Vincents Brits 15 SOLs 7 smaller ships Spanish 24 SOLs, 12 Smaller ships. The same pattern at the Nile. If we got back to the 7 year war and we get the same at Quiberon Bay... The ship of the line is the standard ship used in big naval battles... something that really should be rather obvious. Forcing battles with both 1st rates and a large number of sloops would not solve anything or be historical.
  6. It would not be... look at some of the historical battles most common ship was often the 3rd rate... not smaller ships.
  7. Some of the mods require more materials for the better versions.. So have better ships require more materials is a good idea... A factor 5 might be to much. So basic be 100% to today, and the exceptional maybe 300% But that can be balanced later.
  8. Heavier guns heavier recoil... a small ship with thin sides could not handle that.
  9. Secret is not the same as fictional. Secret is just that they are not on the map or that any ports there are not on the map.
  10. By then iron steamships was sailing the oceans... so clearly no.
  11. Way to modern... with this we might as well start adding steamships... that would be just as historical.
  12. Be very carefull that you don't overestimate how backward people where... The ability to read and write was in no way uncommon. Literacy In the UK it was 55%+ in the Netherlands 80%+ https://ourworldindata.org/literacy/
  13. On differens can be when the pictures/model show. I would imagine that things was not done entirely the same in 1650 and in 1800... (but Iam just guessing)
  14. Please show us what colonies they had in the current game area during the late 18th century... Since we got the USA in the game and based on the ships, clearly that is the only periode that is relevant. Also linking to a random wikipage that really don't back up its claims is pretty useless. And a very poorly written page at that. It mention battles in the baltic, but don't name a single one. t say that the Brandenburg navy was merged into the prussian one. That is just stupid. The Elector crowned himself as King in Prussia... there as no Prussian navy to merge with. Also Prussia did not become the most important part of the domain. Not until around year 1800 did they officially change the name of the state to Prussia. The list of ships is jut that a random list. It is not backed up by a source it do not in any way tell us that they were active at the same time or even when.
  15. how about no. If the west coast of the continent is added, then sure lets add Russia... but until then no reason to do so. Prussia was in no way a naval power during this periode. They did have a presence on saint Thomas for 8 years... where they rented part of the island from Denmark. But that is it. Adding them to the game would make no historical sense.
  16. That would be correct if there was not a limit to how many buildings you can have and how fast the production buildings fill up... So since that is the case your wrong. Discount on the horus sued for ship building would be a good diea. Bigger docksize would be a good idea. (maybe that should simply be a "dock building" that give x slots pr level)
  17. The system in PotBS was stupid and undercut the players who did the crafting...
  18. You don't just tell any random craftman to build a ship of the line. Running a military shipyard with thousands of workers is an extremely complex matter. And it was not uncommon to have an admiral in charge of it. And not something you just told any random civilian to do. Sure there are some small countries (in naval terms) that did use civilian yards for their warships, but the major powers had specialized yards that only served the navy. And they had naval officers in charge...
  19. Actually if you knew anything abut the periode, you would know that naval officers was often put in change of naval shipyards.
  20. Naval action already have the Tirpitz...
  21. Too much work for the devs to maintain two different set ups... and yes they already do so, but the more differences you make the more work... that don't add anything good to the game.
  22. The Free town that will make any sense is town in states that is not in the game. There is no way the danish king would allow a port to actively trade with ships from an enemy power. If we go by the map: Since we got the US in the game... the game is naturally set after they became independent... and we got denmark-Norway... so it is 1814 at the latest. But the US didn't start with Louisiana... so we are talking somewhere between 1783-1803... So very likely the game is set at a point where Poland did not exist as an independent state. But the devs will properly find a map that works in the way they want the game to work... even if it is from earlier...
  23. Until we get the pacific (or Europe) added there would be no historical grounds for adding Russia. Denmark and Sweden had larger navies and had colonies in the Caribbean. And this would make zero sense until the time when every nation have ships of every rate... and they need a number of 5th and 6th rates... Maybe in a few years...
