  1. Well, yeah I missed that post but it is not really the same. All I suggested is a captain figure, like the crew models, so the wheel is not empty. I also think it would impact performance less than other cosmetics and seeing how games like dota 2 make billions of USD by selling only cosmetic items very similar to the one I suggested, I am very certain that enough people will buy it.
  2. I suggest putting one additional crew model on the wheel to represent the captain in battle. The default model is exactly the same as the peasants on the guns but it can be changed with a DLC. No impact on gameplay. Maybe even different outfits for the whole crew? I am not sure how much impact this would have on performance but it would be the same models, only with different skin. I would love to have some actual pirates on my ship instead of those spick and span lads we have now. What do you guys think?

I am very thankful for this new SOL and it is indeed an excellent work of art. Now I am interested in the history of the ship but could not find much, other than its plans and specifications. I am also curious about the theme of the figurehead, which I suspect to depict Hercules wearing the hide of the Nemean lion (?). Some input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you gentlemen.
  4. This is what I was afraid of aswell... but it was the only solution other than expanding the dev team, I could come up with.
  5. In face of the fact that NA has very limited resources for development and the visual update of ports taking quite some time when we consider that there are hundreds of them, I wonder if it will ever be one of the top priorities, potentially leaving us with the dull and out of scale cookie cutter 5 building ports we currently have. I'd like to propose the idea that the devs create a large amount of elements ( churches, warehouses, random buildings, civilians, soldiers, different forts etc. ) and maybe somehow give the community the tools to create very different towns / cities in very high detail with these elements from the devs that they then could upload in the steam workshop or somewhere else, where the devs could choose the best. Maybe this could save developer time somehow and outsource the work to the community who might even very much enjoy creating a part of the OW and helping to improve the game. As I already discussed with admin, the current placeholders do just fine for now and there is a very small amount of variation like buildings towering on a cliffside at the mythical island of Bensalem ( one of my favourite ports in the game albeit fictional, as I love unique ports and easter eggs like this ) or some small huts in the forest etc. but in general all ports somewhat look the same, except for the 2 different architectural styles we have and I really think NA deserves and can do better. I also know many do not care at all and I can understand their POV and how there are other priorities and more pressing issues ( maybe always will be so ) and hence my suggestion. I think proper ports visualization is only thing still missing in NA in terms of visuals and since they are the port UI background now aswell, I would really appreciate an update on them some time in the future. Thus I will remain a fool waiting and hoping... This is actually from the NA WIP thread in this very forum and I sincerely hope it is in fact still work in progress, as it is how I would like ports to look with other ships, civilians and maybe even ambient noise.
  6. Currently even the older Ingermanland is more viable in OW due to higher speed, only slightly worse turnrate, capacity to carry higher calibre guns / higher broadside weight albeit less DPS and on top of that more armor hp AND thickness as well as a better sailing profile. Christian is a very nice ship and I am thankful but I really don't see the point of adding more and more ships without proper balance and place in the game for all of them. It isn't an easy task but there are plenty of stats to work with so it can be done.
  7. I don't see this being fun for a new player ( if this is supposed to be one of the tasks he has to complete to proceed ) ... maybe make it optional if anything. The rest seems really great and I also think it would be better as actual tutorial than the challanges that are currently called tutorial, being a bit too rough for a brand new player ( especially final exam ). If you could make the exams just a little bit easier and combine everything with this idea here, it would be a great tutorial.
  8. I would also like to see this and wonder if it is possible since admin said big storm waves are not... some lightning effects and brutal thunderstorm sounds are the next best thing to big waves in storms / bad weather.
  9. I found an interesting piece of information regarding the Wapen on this wikipedia article about the ship that is sadly only available in german: "Das Schiff wurde nach dem Verkauf zum bewaffneten Handelsschiff umgebaut und war in dieser Funktion nachweislich noch bis 1757 tätig." - "After being sold the ship was refitted as armed trader and verifiably served in this role until 1757." This means the Wapen von Hamburg III actually saw service as trader for 20 years compared to only 2 years serving as Konvoischiff ( warship used only for escort duty ) - the role it was first built for. I think a increase in hold capacity aswell as a very minor speed buff would help making this beautiful ship more viable in OW without actually making it stronger in combat. Currently it only has 748 hold while even the tiny trader snow has 900 and with its crippling low speed and small guns it isn't viable in OW at all, facing faster frigates and much harder hitting and more durable Bellonas with the same speed. Increasing cargo hold to at least 1200 and maybe speed by 0.2 knots to make it a heavily armed semi trader could give the Wapen a role in the OW and would also be historically accurate. The Wapen should however not be able to enter enemy ports like normal traders. I think this might be the best way to make one of the oldest ships in game viable / popular without having to make it competitive with more modern and advanced warships. @admin
  10. I hope pirates don't get insurance in the future but another perk as tradeoff. I know it is only a game and all but I really wish pirates were something special, unique and a bit hardmode. Insured pirate ships seems rather silly at least...
  11. That would be a hard pass from me... The point of ship knowledge XP is that you are rewarded for using a specific ship extensively and I don't see any need for it to be bypassed via some DLC. Also you will come to find that you can get the slot xp even faster with PvP. A few good PvP battles are enough to completely unlock a frigate...
  12. Really hope we get this one some time. Seems to be the favourite among the frigates in the poll aswell...
  13. It exists to prevent mark farming and excessive bullying for marks. I disagree, because this would exclude those players from fully participating in PvP for the duration and punish them even further for losing a fight.
  14. This would be a nice addition. Whalers could be hunted like traders and thus generate even more content. As far as I know capturing a fully loaded whaler back then was like catching a oil transporter today - different kind of oil but same big $$$. The whales could be like mission markers that have to be found in OW and are only possible to interact with in a ship fitted for whaling. Seems rather easy to implement? They would have to model a "marker" for whales and add a permanent upgrade for it and the upgrade should take like 3 slots... Another great idea that probably wont see implementation.
  15. And when you find them you get a bunch of labour contracts ( take them as slaves ), +10 morale for the next battle and some gold ( rape and plunder )... europeans back then sure knew how to party hard and make an adventure worth the journey.
  16. Amen, my man. The included name change is very nice aswell and a nice addition.
  17. I wish the old model was at least slightly modified and renamed. Also the new model does not only look better compared to the old one, it also performs slightly better with the curved hull and additional chasers. Thus I wonder who would use the old one over the new... ?
  18. Does my mind deceive me or did they not add this already?
  19. I would like the addition of status of relationship between nations and if two nations are allied or neutral towards eachother, they should be allowed to trade in OW in my opinion.
  20. It certainly would be a nice gesture but where do we draw the line? People will want to know why HRE can have a custom flag but X, Y and Z Clans not? I like that there are only historically accurate flags in the game so far as it adds to immersion and authenticity. Also what stops HRE from switching nation, if they want the flag so bad? I am not completely opposed to historically looking custom flags for clans but then we will need them for all major clans. Clan flags could be another DLC.
  21. I was wondering the same... after all alternative pirate flags are the easiest to find. Very odd indeed but maybe they will simply be in the next batch.
  22. I think this one is a given, except for maybe pirates who could be allowed to fly any flag. Imagining a battle between GB and France, where the brits fly the french flags and the french fly british flags sounds nothing but cringy. Giving the level of historical accuracy and love for detail of the game, I hope the devs think the same.
