  1. You got it the wrong way around. We left the dutch because the dutch nation was already dead pvp/rvr wise.
  2. Fluffy Fishy's post a little above mine
  3. what ever you do, pls pls pls make a dutch ship finally...
  4. You guys seem to severely underestimate the combat-repair capability. In real life the ships did indeed have dedicated repair crews standing by! The bosun and his mates and crew for rigging (splicing cut lines, replacing sails. Much much more common than losing spars). The carpenter and his mates and crew for plugging shot holes, and shoring up structural members, repairing pumps. These crew members are not needed for loading guns and trimming sails, they are dedicated crew on stand-by during an action. Of course should they need more help then crew would be taken of guns. The gun crews would also put unseated cannons back on their carriage and re-attach blocks and tackles to get a gun back in the fight. Now what you guys are correct in is that replacing entire spars or masts could not be done during battle, and neither could all hull damage be fully repaired. But losing entire mast was not all that common. More likely ships would lose some spars and this would not nearly impact their ability to maneuver as bad as losing a mast. Most of the time it would be a case of setting or striking sail to re-balance the forces on the ship and compensate for the loss. If for instance they lost the mizzen topmast, they would strike a few sails on the foremast to get the balance back. In a full on battle (not a chase!) ships would not be going full sails they would be on battle sails. And thus they would be less impacted by losing a single spar and or sail. They could set some of the other sails to compensate and regain most of their maneuverability. Like mentioned by others, losing an entire mast and thus losing maneuverability often resulted in striking the colours.
  5. Santa Mara port battle august 14th 24:00 and the combat news afterwards: After this screen was taken another 8 ships were sunk near santa marta, resulting (afaik) in the total loss of the entire british PB fleet. Our gratitude to the french for providing a screen.
  6. Perhaps, but distances will still matter, so if all nice woods are still a long way from the capital of some nations and not of others, there will still be imbalance.
  7. So, now you have decided that current National warfare is unbalanced, and want to provide equal opportunities to new players of any nation, can we finally address some long standing grievances over nation balance? These include but are not limited to: - Number of ports per nation: i.e. everything belongs to Spain. The whole premise of Historical Accuracy never held any water anyway, because the moment players start actually playing your game historical accuracy with regards to territory is out of the window. - Regional distribution of desirable goods: i.e. if you want live oak, bermuda cedar, white oak, or teak you better not be Dutch. Really, what were you even thinking? (What? no nice wood in the Amazon forest?) This means that you basically NEED alts... - Distance between ports. Again from the Dutch perspective. Most of the regions on the map are positively loaded with ports 5 min sail from each other. Except.... you guessed it... Dutch territories. Don't have the time ATM to go into this further, but map balance has long been an issue. I will probably add more later
  8. Thanks for your reply! It seems that for this specific data the API isn't much use in reducing the amount of work of datamining... Looks like it needs to be doen by hand. However after my post i did find out some very useful crowd-sourced work for the speed. link In the end it's so simple i'm disappointing with myself to not have seen it... when you have a ship in port (or in the shop) the mouse-over text that says 'speed: 12.10 + 1.25" is actually the base speed. Same for thickness.
  9. Remus, i have a question for you, seeing as you are well versed in extracting info from the API. Do you know where i can find the speed and thickness stats on ships? I see every ship template has a MaxSpeed entry, but it doesn't make sense to me. For example the Victory shows as MaxSpeed 140.976013183594 How do i convert that to the actual in game speed? Thickness i can't find at all in the API.
  10. So i've been taking a look at the ItemTemplates file myself. (still a massive pain none of the json tools i found can actually read this file...) There are a few things about ship stats i still don't understand. Most important one is speed. For example, Victory MaxSpeed is listed as 140.98xxxxxx. How do you get from there to the actually in game speed stat? I also cannot find thickness anywhere.
  11. I'm trying to expand the wood comparator to show final ship stats for chosen trims. As such i'm hoping some one can point me to a resource for the extracted base ships stats in an easily importable format, such as CSV, tab-delimited or even simple excel file. Would be extra cool if there's a similar resource for ship knowledge and modules. I would be very grateful
  12. This right here. I used to enjoy fleeting with clanmates, but now I just solo em cus I don't want to do 2, 3 times as many missions in those bloody small ships. I'm currently at snow and mercury, and finally it starts to be a little fun again, so I think I'll start teaming up again because I no longer want to be out of that damn tub as soon as possible!
  13. Maybe not such a good idea to tell the average Joe user to turn off windows updates...
  14. That's a ridiculous statement when making a persistent open world... Should just have made world of wooden warships...
  15. Most changes sound good, or at last something we should test. BUT, yes Big But here, we reeeaaally need more outposts if we now need to have 2 more close to the PvP challenge areas! Please, please devs change or increase the outpost mechanic. It is the single most frustrating and prohibitive feature in game!
  16. I really need more outposts and dock space, it's gotten to the point that I too am destroying and building outposts and buildings on a far to regular basis. The regional bonusses and resources are an attempt to get players out of the capitals and into the world, but the lack of outposts is a real obstacle.
  17. Did you guys realize that in making ships of better than basic quality scarce by making fine woods and gold and silver scarce, you are also making it very hard to even build BASIC versions of ships needing furnishings?
  18. Stiffness IS what it's called. Keel is something else entirely. I guess you're looking for the word heel, which is the measure of how much a ship is heeling over from level. Stiffness is what determines the amount of heel under similar circumstances, a stiffer ship will heel less.
  19. What is the planned order of introducing new ships? More importantly, when can we expect Dutch ships?
