  1. I prefer as much transparency as possible so I wish the exploration thing goes away. This might be an unpopular opinion: I actually want speed mods to go away. It's the first and foremost thing to use so just about everything else is secondary to it by such a margin it would be better without it. To (over)simplify: Since the start there have been two types of ships in the game: Those with speed mods and those without. Without speedmods we might come a step closer to a game with ships of various "personalities" instead of just a binary toggle for speed.
  2. You're asking why a raker does something normal people wouldn't do?
  3. Managed to get a sneaky photo through Doran's bedroom window:
  4. You break my heart! No biggie, truly. But the compass image (not map related) you posted would make speed profiles a tad more convenient to make.
  5. Aww, cmon! let us do it too! I don't swoon over a little game-files-foo.
  6. "But, Honey! The storm, and nature... wasn't my fault!"
  7. I lived in Holland (Rosenburg outside Rotterdam) for two years when I was little. I remember patat. French fries served with mayonnaise. I remember coming back to Norway and getting kethcup with my patat. Next up is frikandellen. Dunno what it is, shaped like a hotdog with a fishfinger like crust. Probably deep fried until it's mother wouldn't even recognize it. Tasty, tho... pork meat? As you've already mentioned, normal breakfast and lunch. I've told the tale of Dutch food to wide eyed kids during my years of school in Norway. It is a good story: "Every day we had white bread <gasps>, butter and cakesprinkling <roll eyes and pass out>" Here's to hagelslag, muisjes(?) and all that other unhealthy shit they put on our bread! Stroopwafels has actually been made available in selected Norwegian shops during the last five years, it's great! Though my parents have made sure to pick it up for the entire family EVERY time they've traveled over the years. You can tell the Dutch are a fun loving bunch. All the above mentioned plus Grolsch, honorable mention to Heineken; If I'm gonna drink like a lady, Heinie's fit the bill. Alas, my child-fluent Dutch is lost to me. I can only dig up a few phrases. But I still pronounce it better than my parents who have a much larger word repository still active.
  8. Oh, dear! "Keep the captain happy..." There's so many ways this can go wrong. InB4itdoes
  9. I think I understand what you're getting at, but I do think it is complicated. Imagine explaining this to a new player. It does make unique ships and I'm not saying it's a bad idea. The result is cool, but complicated to understand and use. WOWS skill trees are easy to understand: You need to come up with a very clear and understandable version of your idea to sell it, I think.
  10. Hvad fanden, mann!? You had me fooled with that Shelby and TDA veneer.
  11. LOL, yea. We were just an inconsequential afterthought after the black death plague. After you guys had to hand us over to the Swedes and we eventually declared independence I bet they went like: "Who, what now? Nevermind..." (Actually, some Danes helped us out with that.)
  12. ? Last time (long time ago) I was near those ports they came up as "Danmark-Norge". Also, how sure are you about those historical terms? They are new to me as a names for the union. I could all but bet my life that Danmark and Norge are the names we used ourselves in 17-1800. We have some Danes lying around here, haven't we? Terkildsen, chime in!
  13. I bet many players would want to do this. I hope there aren't any reasons to lock players into one role only.

    Victory Wallpaper

I'm with you on that, dood. Slow ships are kinda boring.
  15. Added all guns, also updated static image.
  16. Here's the next step going for a Mercury. Note that bot Mercs will disappear, so insert NavyBrig instead. I've cut out several seconds of me lobbing chain at his sails, the important bits are in. Notice how I can sit, sails down, and shoot at him from upwind once the sails are down a bit.

    Weather Report

A Storm was raging outside Matthew Town earlier today, several ships were caught in it. It is reported it moved north past Little Inagua.
  18. That's one thing. The other is heel makes it easier to shoot windward, as opposed to sitting upwind and having to depower to get shots off. I just tried to get this as simple as possible for new guys. Hmm... I might have hit a "no more media for you" limit on my post. The two last vids just show up as text, but the formatting is the same. Maybe a mod can split my post after vid 5, would that work?
  19. So your new here and all you have is a starter ship with 8 or 12 guns. You've tried your hand at fighting bots but they turn and shoot well enough to get you in trouble. You don't have a lot of gold and your ship is fragile... What to do? Capturing ships can help speed up your grind, you can sell them or sail them. I recommend you go out and find a Pickle, it's such a sturdy and comfy ship to level your character up to Jr. Lt. or Lt. Once you're there you can set your eyes on the Brigs or the Mercury. There are many ways to capture a ship. I will demonstrate one way to do it, one that's easy to explain and execute with minimal damage done to your ship and crew. This tactic works for all smaller vessels trying to board a bigger. I've tested this with a Yacht versus a Mercury and it worked but the Merc will make you sustain quite a bit of damage. It can be done with mediums, longs and carronades. I've chosen long guns for this demonstration because they allow you to fight at a safer distance. This is for bot bullying, don't do this against players - They will either run away or beat you silly. We start out downwind for maximum stupid bot fighting comfort, go gunnery mode and load chain: Then we start to work on his sails to bring them down and make him pop his repairs. Alternate from side to side. Notice how I stop or reverse my turns as he is firing, it works to throw off his aim and preserve your planking. Keep at it for a while and his sails will drop below 50%. Now his sails are at 25% and I work my way upwind: I'm upwind, he's not happy. Time to change to doubles and smash him up a bit: The idea now is to get behind him and take down his stern planking. It could be placebo, but I have the impression it's easier to kill crew by sternraking with the armor down, in any case it doesn't hurt your efforts to take it down. Please forgive my manual sails, it was unintentional. But, hey! It demonstrates how easy it is to deal with a chained bot even if you slip up a bit Now I switch to grape and stay glued on his stern. Notice how I mainly use the "T" key for depowering staysails to stay where I want to be. This is probably the trickiest part if you're inexperienced. Watch the crewcount as I singleshoot his stern. after 2 broadsides he's down to 10 guys and I hit "9" to prepare for boarding. There! Capped a Pickle almost unharmed. Level up to Lt. in your captured Pickle and repeat the above to get a Brig or Mercury. Good luck!
