  1. yea, but could such a frigate work with the SOLs currently in the game, or would it upset balance like Endymion and Razee most likely would?
  2. Would Rhijn work with the current SOLs or pretty much obsolete them? i'm assuming it's not exactly slow...
  3. We don't allow or disallow anything. Please post and vote for anything acceptable. Just allow us the opinion that putting useless ships in the game seems like suboptimal use of resources.
  4. Huh!? How disappointing, I was looking forward to an interesting lesson in aquadynamics Leda: Flora:
  5. But should a small team of developers put man-hours into making content no one will use?
  6. Cavero just posted a Spanish 18 frigate in the main thread. I clicked. To my untrained eye this hull shape seems interesting. The bottom hull is more tapered from bow to midsection and stern than the trinco, I'm curious how this design affects stiffness, speed and leeway? I could dare suggest the more exposed keel would be good for leeway, maybe not even at the expense of speed or stiffness but just makes the hull less roomy? What do you guys suppose? Also a very novel (for me) gun deck layout, five pea shooters right at the waterline.
  7. Now I'm curious, please explain. Keep in mind I know nothing. Connie is Connie, but how would a proper 18 pounder not be able to compete with our upgunned frig and belle or a trinco? edit: I simply misread. Those proper 18's would be able to give a trinco a hard time, though?
  8. I don't want to quarrel. Guns do affect the equation, many Bellona drivers had the old Bellona so the firepower diff was even more pronounced. The Rakers did have a short Pavel meta period as rats right before the wipe. Not all players know the Pavel peculiarity you can use to outplay a Bellona, in fact, many players don't even know what to do with speed and just forfeit the match by fighting a losing DPM battle. That does not mean that speed is not king, though. As long as we can speed mod our ships from crafting to upgrades, connie is sitting alone in a league of her own. Having choices in that league will distribute the top heaviness over several instead of just one ship. Why not have choices at each and every "league", "tier" or "segment of the ship lineup? If all of you insist connie is to sit there all by herself, then fine, we'll all just drive connies. Not entirely sure what your underlying meaning is here? If we were to downgun belle/frig to twelvers, surely the need for 18 pounder frigates is even more pressing? Won't balance a thing. Players won't care and just grind the extra bit to be able to take out the connie master-race. Big ships balance themselves by being slow and limited in usability. A fir built, multi slotted connie has every tactical choice available to her and is untouchable unless ganked. Anything can be brought down if ganked. edit: spelling
  9. Keep in mind it is mostly me nagging about ships in the trinco/connie league. Also keep in mind that speed makes or breaks a ship's usefulness in this game. Just look what happened to the Frigate and the Belle Poule. Belle is so pretty, turns well, is better protected and has more guns than a frig. Frig is slightly faster and has bow chasers so almost all competitive players would pick it instead of the belle.
  10. Dortrecht and Zeven are useless? pfft, even I could see that and I know (almost) nothing. You think Prinds Christian Frederik and Wasa are ugly and didn't sail well? <shrugs> Eendracht/Amphirite is a runner up in the votes right now, does that please your aesthetic taste? Whether the pseudos sailed well doesn't matter much. It's not like we have performance sheets to base the modelling on. Don't sit on your hands maturin! Make a post with an eligible ship that is in the neighborhood of trinco/connie, tell us why we should click, and I'll click it. Most of us know little and care little for the history bit, and I only want more choice where it matters for gameplay. Two ships have reigned supreme since Sea Trials and my only motivation for spending time in this sub-forum is to see they get some competition. Then there is the Spanish... Did they really have no 18/24 frigates to superfrigates? I'd love to click at a Spanish contender, but all I see are those big and slow waffenträgers. Your groundswell... I'd help you with the 4th rate (maybe), but have no idea what to click.
  11. Look at the bottom of the first post, edit by Henry:
  12. We were asked to consider usefulness for this particular poll.
  13. After reading all your discussion about "true" 18/24 frigates these are the ones we have left? Not counting the brit/french... Rota is in the poll. af Chapman, would that be like the "Wasa" in the poll? I'd click at the Swedish Bellona class but I don't know enough to make a proper poll post with plans and correct info.
  14. How badly would this upset the current lineup? Not only is it a smaller target than vic/santi, but I bet it's faster too.
  15. We're not allowed to discuss or ask questions in the main posting and voting thread. Yours truly can have a hard time keeping his mouth shut, so I made this outlet Maybe you want to lobby certain votes; explain to other voters why they should vote on a certain ship? Maybe you want to ask questions? I'll start off on a feelgood note: When Malachi posted a Danish SOL called "Norsk Løve" (Norwegian Lion) I simply had to vote for it though I have very limited interest for big ships. In fact, I had a sudden urge to go hug the fuck out of a Danish person for historical reasons.
  16. What!? Speed didn't work, then it got fixed and now it doesn't work?
  17. From Steel's thread of Dutch ships: 44-gun, unknown, 1807 I repost these in the blind hope that we can get ships that can compete with trinco/connie. Those are the ships that matter the most to actual gameplay. Could one of you geniuses post or PM me ships of this caliber with bow chasers?
  18. From Steel's thread of Dutch ships: 40-gun, Eendracht, 1797 (Amphirite, 1796)
  19. From Steel's thread of Dutch ships: 32-gun, Juno, 1797
