  1. Yeah another good Non-French, Non-English choice. Would love to see it make it into the game. Also one of my favorite ships from PoTBS.
  2. I am really hoping this is the is the case. 1st and 2nd rates should definitely require the resources of entire player societies and be costly enough that these societies think twice before committing them to battle. 3rd rates maybe, just maybe make somewhat affordable for small societies and perhaps solo players, kind of like the investment into something like a Marauder would involve in EVE. The meat and potatoes of the game should be the small frigates and sloops-of-war comparable in cost and resources to Cruisers and Battlecruisers in EVE.
  3. Cannot wait for the Ingermanland. Ship looks beautiful. Probably the ship I am most looking forward to.
  4. I have to say, I really want to see tons and tons of 3rd and 4th rate SoLs and/or two deck frigates. These are my absolute favorite ships categories. Really have almost no interest in 1st and 2nd rates.
  5. Well the 32lb guns were just speculation. Kind of figured the fact that it losing all that weight up top would allow for it to be up-gunned rather significantly. I mean correct me if I a wrong but since the hull was designed as a two decker to maintain stability and have it rest correctly in the water you still have to have extra weight somewhere, be it ballast or perhaps heavier guns Either way, the fact that the Indefatigable being barely an even match for a Connie is a good thing because it offers a alternative style of ship that has somewhat similar capabilities to the Constitution and this is a good thing. To be honest, I was not a fan of the Connie mostly because it has a very severe, utilitarian look and what has always intrigued me about the Age of Sail is the beauty of many of the ships utilized. Basically Connie is all function over form which is what I would want if I was a real naval captain in 1812, but for gaming purposes, I prefer form over function. Basically I would rather sail a slightly inferior ship that I enjoy looking at while playing.
  6. Exactly the point I made right above the OPs last post. Constitution is as big or bigger then a Bellona, with almost the same thickness of planking (historically) and that is a 74-Gun Ship. The Indefatigable is a 64-Gun 'Razeed" to be a 44-Gun Frigate size ship. It starts off smaller likely being shorter in overall length although it is likely to be a bit wider since it was originally designed to carry more and heavier guns than the Connie. Overall the Indefatigable should be able to carry a heavier weight of gun for roughly the same overall weight as the Connie so weight isn't going to be the deciding factor. Connie will almost undoubtedly be faster with better race qualities but the Indefatigable may end up more maneuverable and/or carry a bit heavier guns.
  7. Hate to keep repeating myself but like this ship too. I also like the fact this ship is Danish-Norwegian instead of English, French or Spanish. I think it they included enough of these minor faction ships in game, I might not sail a single British, French of Spanish ship.
  8. I have to admit the more I look at this ship the more I like it....sort of. I mean it is has a kind of ugly, boxy, squat look to it BUT.....it has so much character that I think it would be an amazing addition at some point. To me, these ships with character are vitally important to really make this game visually pop and stand out.
  9. I take this post to mean that we already have a French 74-Gun that is mostly done in game??? That is what the Screens look like to me anyway.
  10. She is still not an American SoL which is what the OP is looking for. Basically she would be an slightly up-gunned Constitution with less speed and maybe less agility while retaining similar durability. Not saying she wouldn't be a good add, but she isn't a SoL.
  11. My personal opinion is that the inclusion of an American SoL is really dependent on how they run factions in the open world portion of the game. Personally I am just hoping that they let me use whatever ship in the game that I want to sail, regardless of faction. This allows for the devs to focus on just bringing us the best and most beautiful ships rather than be forced to churn out a complete line for each and every nation represented. I mean if you think about it, if they just let us sail what we want, then they can pretty much add all factions, minor or major to the game. You could play the big three, Britain, France or Spain of course or chose to be Portuguese, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, Russian, American or whatever, whomever they want to add without adding a full line up of ship for each and every nation. However if they restrict ships by nation, then they have to limit the number factions fairly significantly because they would need 10-15 ships for each faction. Anyway, back to why this is relevant to American SoLs. Basically if they they allow us to sail what we want, there is no real reason or need for American SoLs which mostly don't exist or where never used in combat. You can be an American and use an Ocean, Victory or Santisima instead.

Love the ship by the way. Definitely got lots of character, like most of the Dutch ship do.

Yeah the models doesn't match the topic at all.
  14. Yeah I can't find any issue with that ship being in the game at all. We do absolutely need more merchant vessels and honestly, there are a ton of warships from the late 1600s (1670 on) I want to see in game as well
  15. I am assuming your are taking about the HMS Indefatigable so I will comment based on that assumption. If you look at the Constitution and compared it against the 74-Gun Bellona you will find that the Connie is actually the same size or maybe even the larger of the two ships. I was shocked when I noticed this and it was only because I was spectating and watched a Bellona board a Connie. From looking at the two tied up side by side, Connie was several meters longer while the Bellona was wider. This is why the Bellona isn't as fast as the Connie but overall they were very similar in size. Now take a ship smaller than the Bellona, a 64-gun Ardent class, the cut off an entire gun deck and reduced the gun count to 44 total, which is quite a bit less than Connie's 54-Gun total and you have a ship that is probably less massive than the Connie. Also since the Connie was a SoL in frigate form, at least from an armoring standpoint, the Connie is going to weigh a hell of a lot. So that being the case, I would bet the Razze will be slower, but overall more nimble than the Connie. Firepower I am unsure of. The Razee had 26 x 24 lb guns and 12 x 12 lb guns so since GLs seems to allow for a one step up gunning of ships in the game this could technically translate into 26 x 32lb guns and 12 x 18lb guns which might even give it a bit more overall firepower. All and all, I think they will end up being pretty well matched.
  16. This is by far my most anticipated ship in the game. I think she is going to be the best looking ship in the game. Not quite as powerful as the Bellona but I am hoping she will be just a durable with slightly better agility. Would be pretty sweet.
  17. Not exactly on topic but I would like to see some mechanic that encouraged someone to abandon ship or surrender if all was lost rather than always "go down with the ship" Maybe every time you are actually sunk, your character loses experience or something. Surrender your ship, pay a ransom and keep all XP, die, lose 20% XP something like that. Also you could abandon your ship in a long boat and if you survive to make it to land, no loss of XP, die and lose 20%
  18. What is wrong with an icon or even a drop down menus allowing you to chose what to drop? I mean it is a game after all and some things have to be made rather simple to keep the game moving along. Also ask yourself this, what would an actual Captain do if he wanted to dump cargo or guns? Yep...he would yell out loudly, "DUMP GUNS AND CARGO!!!!" and his crew would dump the guns and cargo. Not much else to it so I don't see how clicking an icon is in less involved than yelling out an order.
  19. I agree about the SOLs, especially the 1st rates. There seems to be alot of focus on these ships when I am hoping they should be about as rare in the open world as Titans are in EVE Online. 1st and even 2nd rate SOLs should require the resources of large player societies to build, operate and maintain and be such a massive investment that there is genuinely a significant fear of losing them in any sort of combat. 3rd rates should probably be the maximum size ship that is fairly common, kind of at the level of a Marauder or maybe even a Battleship in Eve Online, costly but somewhat recoverable. This is why I questioned the Devs choosing the Ocean Class as the Wildcard because while it is beautiful 1st rate, we already have two beautiful 1st rates and not near enough 3rd, 4th, 5th and even unrated ships in the game. We need tons and tons and tons of these type of vessels for open world, NOT 1st rates or at least I hope that ends up the case. Yeah I am hoping that anything bigger than a 3rd rate will require the resources of entire player societies to actually build, operate and maintain and I think even 3rd rates should be extremely resource intensive being the largest ship that most smaller societies commonly uses and then only for big fleet or territory battles. For warships, our meat and potatoes so to speak should be 5th and 6th rate Frigates with some usage of 4th rate Frigates and SoLs. Obviously unrated ships should be widely in use as well and perhaps be the most common used ships in the game for general commerce, privateering, raiding and general PvP usage.
  20. Why do people keep saying this? The time cut off is like 1680 - 1830 so covers a pretty board spectrum. Yes we currently have mostly late 1700s to early 1800s designs but that isn't always going to be that way. For example, the Ingermanland is a 1715 design so you really can't call it a late period in ship design. Now I will fully agree that there is a pretty huge difference in the design of ships between the early 1600s and the late 1600s and those designed in the early 1600s really don't fit with the likes of a Constitution but there are tons of beautiful late 1600s designs that offer much more beauty and character without being outlandishly different in design and I am really looking forward to those making it in game at some point.
  21. Yeah with open world around the corner, we need some ships that are going to be more focused on Trade. Also an Indiaman would probably be the largest common ship a pirate could get a hold of so yeah it is probably a good addition. Still I like warships. Also I really hope the they bring in some of the late 1600s ships as I think they generally have alot more character while still looking modern enough to fit well into what we have currently. I am taking designs from around 1670 onward.
  22. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't there also a much more modern version named the Wasa? It was part of the player choice poll, Wasa (1778) 60-gun 3rd rate. Between the two Swedish designs, I would love to see the 1778 version, in fact it is my current top choice of ships not currently selected to appear. The 1628 version, while an interesting looking design, definitely does not look seaworthy. Way too top heavy which is probably why she floundered on her maiden voyage. Also 1628 is before the cut off.
  23. Not really sure if it was more interesting or rather simply people wanted to get a idea of what the non-warship trader vessels would be like once open world hit. Personally I have very little desire to pilot the Amsterdam and while it did take 3rd place overall, it really had only a very poor showing compared to the number of votes the went out for warships. If you look at it from that angle, the vast majority of the players want warships or else Amsterdam would have scored a much larger portion of the overall vote. Still, it is what it is and honestly for open world purposes there needs to be tons of ships more dedicated to the role of trader or merchant since I strongly suspect that transporting goods will end up being almost a requirement for all players if they want to have the resources to buy the better warships. That being the case, it is actually a good addition and probably rather timely considering we aren't too far out from beginning Open World testing.
  24. He is talking about the Amsterdam that won the players choice award. I figure since the poll just closed it will be quite some time before we see even very rudimentary renders and probably 6 months or more before it makes it in game.
  25. I think the issue isn't so much that the Christian VII wouldn't be a great fit or isn't popular, rather they seem to be looking for a very Generic looking 2nd rate with no distinguishing characteristics. Why I don't know but that seems to be what they want. Christian VII might have a little too much character for what they are looking for.
