This game is all about PvP?

Recommended Posts

If you are like me and do not like to play PVP that is player against player this game is NOT for us how are not or do not like to be extra competitive.

At least not the OW game where the only interest seems to be to destroy your fellow humans.  :o

And you have no choice in it!

It is being eaten or eat you fellow players otherwise the game offers to little possibilities.  :(

Sorry I did buy this game but I did not know it turned this way.

Bye and if you like this sort of game then have fun.

Never understood why people are afraid of a little PVP. Lot more challenging an interesting than just fighting AI opponents.

Just because people do not like PvP does not mean they are afraid of it. I love PvP, but tire of the people it attracts. As a good friend of mine once said of another MMO, "Not all PvPers are jerks, but all jerks are PvPers". He used a stronger word that jerks though :)

Despite the fact that all real captains fought against real people...

... and all real traders traded real slaves and all real fishermen fished real whales and most of real children didn't go to school... It was real hard time. :( Fortunatly, NA is a game, a make-believe  :) .

May be not a matter of being afraid but a kind of philosophy because PVP purpose is, above all, to defeat a real human being. And some dislike the idea...

If PVE server is happening, great for them.

On the other hand, some are less interested in naval combat than in other sea activities. For them, trading and exploration are expected....

For the time being, OW prototype's goal may appear to some as getting more and more XP/gold/ships by killing, killing, killing. And a game's goals is fundamental for immersion.

But it's a test with specific testing purposes, right ?

A game called Naval Action and yet people don't expect or want to fight, sorry the title confused me a little.

AI opponents are easy enough once you figure them out, human players are unpredictable and therefore harder. Some can't handle either the additional challenge or a few mean words in chat.

Please don't split the already small population, craftng, trading and exploration are the non-pvper options

Maybe another reason why some favor IA opponents...

However, wait and see before stating that NA IA opponents will be easy.

Game Labs' Ultimate General IA does great things.

Some can't handle either the additional challenge or a few mean words in chat.

Mean words and behaviors and trolling often kill immersion, whether or not you can handle them.

Some people need to learn the meanings of "alpha" and "testing." This game is no where near completion! We bought this game to test it. Anyone who decides to give up on OW after a few days is a fool. It has been clearly stated that there will be PVE added later on, just not yet. Current OW testing is for battle and sailing mechanics, not trading. But if such an uninformed and pessimistic person wants to quit, then that's for the best.

Testers are expected to remain respectful of each other at all times.  There is a curse generator at http://wiredstar.com/NAInsults if you really feel the need to sling mud in chat.  Insults and cursing at another Captain outside of that generator may result in punishment, including having your progress reset or worse.  "Mean Words" should be yelled at the screen in the privacy of your own home, please do not convey them into the chat.  This is not "World of Stuff" where one may be nasty to other players and get away with it - the "feeling" of the Napoleonic Era is being sought here, and in that era, a Gentleman did not go around insulting other people without shortly being challenged to a potentially fatal duel.

Please be respectful of each other, we're all here to have fun and test the game, there's no room in testing for those that want to be jerks.

Well and good while in a closed testing enviroment, but once it released don't be shocked if a lot of people don't hold to the gentlemens code while in chat. Should it be that way, no but is it sadly the answer is often the opposite.

Just because that may be all that you have ever experianced does not mean that this is all there can ever be.

Aiming at the lowest common denominator just means you are aiming for mediocrity. The game won't be filled with "saints" (pun intended) but Im sure assholes will be treated by the community that has been assembled thus far appropriately to ensure they are not long tolorated.

Admin once posted this video in response to a person who said it would be hard to enforce politeness in chat:

I hope there won't be a separate PVE server, it would be nice to do some trading and exploring with the risk of being fired upon! That way you can hire escorts and work in convoys to secure trade routes.

I'm more a PVE person but the mix with PVP is always great, we'll see what happens I guess!

Addition of a PvE server will most likely negatively impact the bustle of in-game economy of the PvP server (good trade is PvP). Definitely against this as it will lessen the impact of player action for both servers.

Problem for 'splitted' server (PvP/PvE) for all former MMOGames, community also splitted, needed different gameplaystyle means splitted dev-resources, most times PvP servers limiting to pure 'kill all 'P's you can' ganking and PvE for all who want become a comfort wealthy 'Rockefeller' without problem, only spending time to play. At least Open World should not be splitted to 'gameplay for any taste and mood, there are no rules, except those you want', single battles can be with different styles like now existing. But such holidaypark gameplaystyles (chose attraction you momentary like) are surely 'nice' but nice is far away from great and cool.

Possible solution to keep one world+economy: Players can create PvE characters which remain invisible to player controlled ships of opposing factions. (Battles probably would have to be flagged as well to deal with potential PvP players entering later)

I'm not a fan of splitting up the servers based on PvP and PvE or allowing players to sail around invisible with no fear of anything. It's not like this game was suddenly changed to multiplayer. It's been known from the beginning.

Where is the fun without some risk? Otherwise it kills any need for escorts and takes away from the strategy and dynamic of the game. Personally, being a multiplayer age of sail game is what makes this game for me. I wouldn't be here if it was single player game without risk.

I loved the economy side of POTBS, i enjoyed making ships and giving them to the new players and help them level up to try populate our nation back then, team battles and port battles were quite fun with the teamwork element that was created, nothing annoyed me more though then the PvP red-zones, most of the time it was where you need to go to get supplies to continue doing eco, but there were far too many keyboard warriors that thought they were tough bullying and abusing people, it is a game and its there to have fun not for bullying or ruining hard work when all they wanna do is make a fun playing environment for other players in the community, the only way i see in catering for both player bases is the ones that want to PvP is to flag themselves and then fight to their hearts content and the ones that don't just go on about their business with no troubles, if at some point the PvE players want to try their hands at PvP or team based fights then they can flag themselves up and have ago and maybe slowly build there confidence and experience when they are ready, though we do need to remember it is still in testing and building stages and the admin and developers will take our words on board and endeavour to make a great and enjoyable game for us all.

I am not in favor of splitting up the community onto 2 separate servers, however,  If it came down to a choice and we REALLY had to choose between watering down the full PvP experience with PvP flagging and invisible PvE players OR providing them with their own PvE server then i would rather that they have a PvE server and go there instead of ruining the Full PvP open world for all others.

That is a risky strategy Cotton.  Lets see how it plays out.  (I'm guessing not so well)
