Patch 9.68

We could do it closer to release

It is indeed a shame. But until rank requires you to sail certain ships it is hard to achieve, people will choose ships that let you perform better at sea skipping all others.

We do not have ideas yet on how to do it without "forced by design"

The number of frigates actually can support national ships somewhat to an extent

(for example - constitution is US only, trincomalee is british/french only, etc)

National ships would be great in the future.

National ships just mean that players who don't want to play for multiple nations won't be able to have some (perhaps a lot) of the ships in the game, and will be unhappy.

I personally think that national ships would add a lot to the theme of the game and gives you that extra decision point on whether or not you want to attempt a cap.   I think it adds a feather in your cap to be floating around in a capped ship not accessible by your nation.  That is a good thing.  Of course, you have to make sure that each nations is filled out with a balanced assortment of ships.....

Easy.  You do it with cost of construction, required rank, hull capacity, and speed on the OS and in battle.

Tlynx: smallest hull, fastest on OS, good running up wind, Cheap, small crew

Tcutter: slightly larger hull, second fastest on OS, good up wind, cheap, small crew

Tbrig: Larger hull, 3rd fastest on os, good running at 90, fairly cheap, med crew

Tsnow, Larger hull, 4th fastest on os, good running at 120, mid range cost,  mid crew, rear guns, top deck guns on side

New hotness, largest hull, slower on OS, good running at 180, more expensive, requires decent sized crew, semi armed for a fighting chance against Mercs and smaller

You forgot that the new armed merchant is DEEP draft, so it cannot get to many of the areas where its armament would be of most use, instead it will be operating in the same waters as trincs, Renommee, and Surprises...and from what I can see it cannot out sail any of them and with the guns of a brig its not likely to fair well enough to make up the difference.  However it is a welcome change, and once cargo sizes get adjusted downwards on the shallow draft ships it will be a common sight I'm sure.

Would require a lot of ships to be added to the game before thats even an option, not to mention you would have to introduce a lot of factions that had no presence in the Caribbean (or not introduce a lot of kick ass ships), witch would also require a bigger population than we have now, lest there will be tens of factions that cant even get enough members for a port battle ;)

Not at all.  Some ships simply need a new skin to reflect a historically captured ship to fill the holes.   And yes, we would get new ships in the deal.  It is a win-win for the game.....

Fixed bugs

  • AI marines fixed - they gave no bonuses to the AI ship causing easy wins in boarding

Just question... If Marines were making no difference in boarding for AI, were their presence taking up crew space also not slowing down reload and making sailing responses slower?

If so then will AI have the same effect that players have if they load a Marines mod?

Cheers,

Albert

Thanks. However, right now I'm just interested in what it's listed as in-game. I need to know that in order to update my List of Ships In-Game and in Development thread.

3rd rate. At least that what the ship store ingame list it as.

How come I have never heard of these ships, the patch doesnt describe these ships, and yet people are discussing their stats and uses!!  8)

Because people have known for ages that these ships were in development. Ingermanland was voted for by players in a ship selection poll from January 2014, while Grosse Ventre was teased back in Spetember, and later confirmed after the players figured out its identity.

The LGV can probably not fight off a solo renommee, so the extra cargo is nice, but I'm still gonna get an Escort from a Trincomalee if I am moving goods.

BTW in the SHIPS Ingermanland is listed as a third rate - so probably crafted with 3 dura. Disappointing. Might as well stay in captured 3rds as a Flag Captain, and in constis as a post captain.

CDR? (aka Camp Du Roy) .... Wasn't it supposed to be returned to Free Port status with the "Next Update" ... it has been 2 updates now, and 3 weeks.

I just want to get my ships and cargo out of it -- and move to another location. I have not logged in yet today, (at work), but as it is not in the patch notes, I am curious if it changed back to FP status. Anyone? Or is it still a Neutral port?

Thanks,

-Yank

Thank you very much, Devs, for these updates and especially these new ships!!

I can't wait to try my hand at raiding an LGV.

Diversity of Traders Ships sailing around can only be achieved by "forced design" I reckon.

Why should I take a small trader ship to do the time consuming trading?

For instance, only a Trader Lynx could carry GOLD.

But that makes everything a bit unrealistic....

Well if carting valuable becomes important than the should be diversity of traders. Big ones for volume cargo (logs, coal etc) and small fast ones for the craft notes, gold silver, upgrades etc

I'd only ever carry crafting notes around in a Renommee or a similar uncaptureable ship.

I am ok with the ships being nation locked if the nations can do some kind of community goal to unlock the other nations ships. Actually I am a pirate so I don't care who builds what I steal but espionage is a real thing.

To be honest, you would probably just have to tag an AI fleet of the said nation and capture it if you want it so badly.

However having the exclusivity as a nation would allow you to craft a very good one while other nation killing your AI fleet would have a meh version of the same ship.

Very bad idea...there will always be a "best" ship for PVP or whatever.  Restricting a considered best ship or just by fact the stats make it the best ship type to one nation will have the unintended effect of nation shift and population imbalance to the point of detrimental effect on the game.  Keep all ship types open and ignore the temptation to make them nation specific.  Very slippery slope that leads to poor game results.

With New ships being added, and now having basic 3rd rate, bellona and now the Inger being added to the BP list.    I would hope the Dev's are looking at eliminating the cap'd 3rd Rates and making people now make one of the 3 types of 3rd rates available.  With more 4th, 3rd and 2nd rates on the way.  It would make crafting and the game play and port battles much more fun.

Yeah, hopefully the generic 3rd rate/74 turns out to be just a placeholder, and that it gets replaced by specific historical 3rd rate designs. (Temeraire-class, please?)

Also, Sir Henry de Montfort, not to be rude, but I'd, uh... recommend you take another look at the spelling in your signature's banner. :P
