  1. Some people probably don't know about the french counter-revolution, so here is a bit of context first: The Chouannerie & the Army of the Emigrated In 1795, the french emigration supported by the Brits came back to make a d-day, the Expedition Of Quiberon. It obviously failed, but it is an interesting chapter of History and of a failed d-day.
  2. HMS Agamemnon HMS Agamemnon was a 64-gun third-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy. She saw service in the American Revolutionary, French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, and fought in many of the major naval battles of those conflicts. She is remembered as being Nelson's favorite ship, and was named after the mythical ancient Greek king Agamemnon, being the first ship of the Royal Navy to bear the name. The future Lord Nelson served as Agamemnon 's captain from January 1793 for 3 years and 3 months, during which time she saw considerable service in the Mediterranean. After Nelson's departure, she was involved in the infamous 1797 mutinies at Spithead and the Nore, and in 1801 was present at the first Battle of Copenhagen, but ran aground before being able to enter the action. Despite Nelson's fondness for the ship, she was frequently in need of repair and refitting, and would likely have been hulked or scrapped in 1802 had war with France not recommenced. She fought at the Battle of Trafalgar on 21 October 1805, as part of Nelson's weather column, where she forced the surrender of the Spanish four-decker Santísima Trinidad. Agamemnon 's later career was served in South American waters off Brazil. Her oft worn-out and poor condition contributed to her being wrecked when in June 1809 she grounded on an uncharted shoal in the mouth of the River Plate, whilst seeking shelter with the rest of her squadron from a storm. All hands and most of the ship's stores were saved, but the condition of the ship's timbers made it impossible to free the ship; her captain was cleared of responsibility for the ship's loss thanks to documents detailing her defects. Recently, the wreck of Agamemnon has been located, and several artifacts have been recovered, including one of her cannons. 3. 'Resolution' HMS Resolution was a 70-gun third-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched at Harwich Dockyard on 6 December 1667. She was one of only three third rate vessels designed and built by the noted maritime architect Sir Anthony Deane. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Resolution_(1667)

  5. HMS Roebuck (1774) Plans based on Roebuck class. The Roebuck class ship was a class of twenty 44-gun sailing two-decker warships of the Royal Navy. The class carried two complete decks of guns, a lower battery of 18-pounders and an upper battery of 9-pounders. This battery enabled the vessel to deliver a broadside of 285 pounds. Most were constructed for service during the American Revolutionary War but continued to serve thereafter. By 1793 five were still on the active list. Ten were hospital ships, troopships or storeships. As troopships or storeships they had the guns on their lower deck removed. Many of the vessels in the class survived to take part in the Napoleonic Wars. In all, maritime incidents claimed five ships in the class and war claimed three. H.M.S. Roebuck was the nameship of a class of twenty fifth rates even though she herself was completed before any of the others had been laid down. Roebuck's keel was laid in Chatham dockyard in October 1770 and she was launched on 28 th April 1774. Measured by her builders at 886 tons, she was 140 feet in length with a 38 foot beam, and mounted 44 guns in total comprising 20x18 pounders, 22x9 pdrs. and 2x6 pdrs. Shortly after completion, Roebuck was despatched to North American waters where the American War of Independence was just beginning. First in action under Hyde Parker in the Lower Hudson River, she was one of a threeship squadron fired upon and badly damaged by the guns of Fort Washington on 9th October 1776. Although tactically defeated, the squadron's very presence in the river caused General Washington great concern and caused him to change his campaign plans in the area. Remaining on station off the eastern seaboard, Roebuck was in Lord Howe's fleet which played catandmouse with the French during August 1788, and she then acted as flagship to ViceAdmiral Arbuthnot at the successful capitulation of Charleston, South Carolina, on 11 th May 1780 where she was again badly damaged heading the line past the guns of Fort Moultrie. In her last encounter of the war on 14th April 1781, she captured, whilst in company of H.M.S. Orpheus, the 36 gun American frigate Confederacy off the Virginia Capes, the latter loaded with valuable stores for Washington's army. After a brief period as a hospital ship (1790-91), Roebuck next saw action in the West Indies during Sir John Jervis's operations off Martinique, and her final recorded engagement was the capture of the 12gun Dutch Bataaf off Barbados on 6th July 1796. Thereafter serving as a troopship (1799), a guardship (1803) and a floating battery (1805), she was eventually broken up at Sheerness in July 1811.
  6. hi this is my model of HMS HERMIONE, Andromeda class 32 gun frigate of 1782. Its still under construction at the moment but I just thought I would post some pics of how she looks so far.... and im open to suggestions and any help anyone can offer! My reason for choosing the Hermione is because of her history, bloodiest mutiny on any british warship..... ragnar hairy trousers
  7. 'Boadicea' 1797 Very active ship with rich history. Boadicea was one of a batch of large frigates ordered in 1795, all of which were the largest of their type, and the majority of which were to the draught of captured French ships, the Navy then being under the sway of Middleton and the French school of thought, a school supposing that the design of warships in France was of a higher quality. She was built to the design of Imperieuse, a 40-gun ship completed in 1787 and captured in October 1793. Changes were made to the shape of the topsides, and the scantlings and fastenings were strengthened to reflect British practice. She retained her shallow French hull form, and as a result the holds and magazines were considered cramped. More history and action can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Boadicea_(1797) Armament: Upper deck: 28 × 18-pounder guns QD: 8 × 9-pounder guns + 6 × 32-pounder carronades FC: 2 × 9-pounder guns + 2 × 32-pounder carronades Ship Plans

  9. HMS Archer, and the Archer-class of gun-brigs From 1793 to 1813, the Royal Navy demanded large numbers of small armed brigs for coastal warfare. These were smaller than the brig-sloops or man-of-war brigs, with a complement of 50 men under the command of a Lieutenant. Some were converted from merchant ships, while most were built to order - the most common design of these gun-brigs was the Archer-class by William Rule, consisting of 58 ships. These ships were workhorses, most with individually undistinguished careers or a supporting role apart from some colourful exceptions; HMS Staunch, for instance, was decorated for its efforts in the 1810 Mauritius campaign, while HMS Manly was captured and recaptured twice, spending half of its life in the Dutch and Danish navies, making the ship itself something of a battleground. It is worth noting that these ships were built at a great rate - the first 10 Archer-class ships were ordered on the 30th of December, 1800, and the last of that batch, HMS Constant, was launched on the 28th of April, 1801 and completed fitting out on the 10th of June that year. Also worth noting is that arming these tiny brigs to the teeth gave them a marked tendency to roll. Measurements Length at gundeck: 80' (24 m) Length at keel: 65' 10.25" (20.072m) Beam: 22' 6" (6.86m) Depth of hold: 9' 5" (2.87m) Tonnage (by burthen, not displacement): 177 31/94; 177.3298 tonnes burthen Armament: Broadsides: 10x18-pounder carronades Bow chasers: 2x18-pounder carronades (from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_gun-brigs_of_the_Royal_Navy#Archer_class_.281801_batch.29) What could she be in game? A low-level ship that doesn't handle like a the others, a square-rigged ship with both broadside guns and bow chasers for people who want to jump in the deep end early. For more experienced players, she would still be an ideal interdictor for the smallest trade ships, and the combination of an in-game 7th-rate's turn speed and bow chasers could make her a potent shallow-water warship in its own right.
  10. HMS Leopard was a 50-gun fourth rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, built at Rotherhithe and launched on 15 March 1703.[1] Leopard underwent a rebuild according to the 1719 Establishment at Woolwich, and was relaunched on 18 April 1721. Leopard served until 1739, when she was broken up. Building HMS Leaopard http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/topic/3097-hms-leopard-by-bluto-50-gun-ship-1790-180-pob-1790/
  11. I've been digging a bit and i have found some blueprints of the HMS Prince 98-gun second rate ship of the line that was launched on 4th of July 1788. It is a very pretty ship and it is a 2nd rate which we only have 1 of so far. Here are some plans: Orlop plan: Lower gundeck plan: Middle gundeck plan: Upper gundeck plan: Quarterdeck and forecastle plan: Inboard profile plan: Sheer plan and lines: Model: Now, I am not a historian or anything, but this seems like a cool ship and I haven't seen it with its plans in this forum.(might be that I missed it) Armament: 98 guns: Gundeck: 28 × 32 pdrs Middle gundeck: 30 × 18 pdrs Upper gundeck: 30 × 12 pdrs Quarterdeck: 8 × 12 pdrs Forecastle: 2 × 12 pdrs Some sources: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Prince_(1788)& http://www.kenthistoryforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=18598.0 Share your opinions!

  13. Here is a suggestion for a bomb ketch that could eventually be added to replace the mortar brig, or simply serve as another mortar vessel: HMS Granado Length: 64 ft 5 in (19.6 m) (gundeck) 50 ft 6 in (15.4 m) (keel) Beam: 23 ft 5 in (7.1 m) Depth of hold: 10 ft 0 in (3.0 m)
  14. HMS Portland HMS Portland was a 50-gun fourth rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched at Woolwich Dockyard on 28 March 1693. She was rebuilt according to the 1719 Establishment at Portsmouth, and was relaunched on 25 February 1723. On 17 March 1709, Portland recaptured Coventry, which the 54-gun Auguste and the 54-gun Jason (1704) had captured in September 1704. Portland was broken up in 1743
  15. 'Vanguard' I was finally able to find plans for my favorite ship. Enjoy! P.S will try to get her in game in the near future when Kickstarter opens up. HMS Vanguard was a 74-gun third-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched on 6 March 1787 at Deptford. She was the sixth vessel to bear the name. In December 1797, Captain Edward Berry was appointed flag captain, flying Rear Admiral Sir Horatio Nelson's flag. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Vanguard_(1787) Plans
  16. not sure is this has been posted yet sorry if it has. ----------------------------- The HMS St. Lawrence was a 112 gun first rate ship of the line launched on 10 September 1814 from the Kingston Royal Naval Dockyard. She was the only Royal Navy ship of the line ever to be launched and operated entirely in fresh water. how ever powerful she was as the largest warship on the great lakes, because of her sheer size and the danger she posed she never saw action as the U.S. fleet was too worried of losing their ships to her and was promptly decommissioned in 1832. She was the flagship of Sir James Lucas Yeo. Plans Length : 191 ft 2 in / 58.27 m to the tip of the gun deck Beam : 52 ft 6 in / 16.00 m Complement: 700 officers and men Armament: gun deck: 28 x 32 pdrs, 4 x 24 pdrs, 2 x 68 pdr carronades (for sake of game I'd just make them all 32 pdrs) Middle: 36 x 24 pdrs Upper gun deck: 32 x 32 pdrs Another plan Model While nothing special, she would add more variety to the game.
  17. i would love to see HMS Temeraire,it was Lord Nelson's favourite ship.
  18. HMS Enterprize (British 6th rate, 28 Guns) Ship designed by Sir John Williams; built Deptford Dockyard; launched 1774; 28 guns 6th Rate; harbour service 1799; broken up 1807 Ship Plans http://woodmodelbuilding.blogspot.com/2012/10/hms-enterprize-pdf-drawings.html
  19. I found a forum with details about many ships and some plans. It would be cool if some of those ships could find their way into this game. HMS Neptune 98 gun 2nd rate http://www.kenthistoryforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=16545.0 HMS Formidable 98 gun 2nd rate http://www.kenthistoryforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=19026.0 HMS Spartan 38 gun frigate http://www.kenthistoryforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=18132.0 HMS Royal George 100 gun 1st rate http://www.kenthistoryforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=15058.0 HMS Ville de Paris 110 gun 1st rate http://www.kenthistoryforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=17732.0 HMS Ardent 64 gun 3rd rate http://www.kenthistoryforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=18096.0 HMS Leviathan 74 gun 3rd rate http://www.kenthistoryforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=17025.0 And many many more ships.
  20. HMS Caledonia 120 Gun First Rate HMS Caledonia was a 120-gun first-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched on 25 June 1808 at Plymouth. She was Admiral Pellew's flagship in the Mediterranean. She proved to be a very successful ship, and it was said that 'This fine three-decker rides easy at her anchors, carries her lee ports well, rolls and pitches quite easy, generally carries her helm half a turn a-weather, steers, works and stays remarkably well, is a weatherly ship, and lies-to very close.' She was 'allowed by all hands to be faultless'. In later years she was to become the standard design for British three-deckers. On 12 February 1814 she took part with HMS Boyne in a hot action against the French line-of-battle ship Romulus off Toulon; the French 74 managed to escape to Toulon by sailing close to the coast to avoid being surrounded. In 1831 she was part of the Experimental Squadron of the Channel Fleet under Sir Edward Codrington. On 12 September that year she took part in an experiment whereby she was towed by the frigate HMS Galatea by means of hand-worked paddles alone. In 1856 she was converted to a hospital ship, renamed Dreadnought and became the second floating Dreadnought Seamen's Hospital at Greenwich, where she remained until 1870. In 1871 she was briefly returned to service to accommodate patients recovering from the smallpox epidemic of that year. She was broken up in 1875.
  21. It has been a 3 week long race. The First leg was long in Panama was initial hard fights around Playon, with the British front falling and allowing France to get a strong foothold in Panama. The second leg was the British Nation responded in force, capturing back all Panama ports with the French escaping to the North Yuctan being handed ports by the Spanish. The British front held throughout the week against relentless French/Spanish attacks. The third leg started off this weekend the French final bastion at Mugeres was captured. Before it was captured a trader lynx escaped to Jagua, and the french were given a port by the Pirates. The British responded by capturing surrounding ports around Jagua, but again a Traders lynx escaped the British Blockade to plant on another port given to the French by the Pirates at Manzanilla. Tonight the french were finally sent back home to Fort Royal as their last port at Manzanilla was captured. It was a good race, that i know the British have enjoyed and glad to fight strong and organized nation that France is. I do hope similar thoughts are shared by our French counter parts.
  22. Several weeks ago the French led by their Danish Lords set off to attack the British in an unprovoked declaration of War. The war began with the Dutch allowing the French Military Access to cross through their territory over 2 days with the first strike coming out of the Dutch neutral zone into the British Canalete area. There British forces were met with forces of the Russian Coalition led by Pirate, Spanish and French forces some 150-200 enemy forces were reported in the area. Over a period of 4 or 5 days the vast numbers overwhelmed exhausted British forces which eventually led to a blitz up to Great Corn into a region of the map with 8 Anytime ports which was easily overwhelmed and somewhat welcomed. During the next week the British council diverted as many ships as could be spared into the Bonacca region and heavy fighting took place on a daily basis with Spanish and French forces. Over a 2 day weekend British forces managed to get behind the French defenses and liberated most of the southern ports. Some great battles took place and it was quickly noted throughout the empire that French captains were of exceptional quality and showed much honour and gallantry in their efforts to defend. Coinciding with the hard fought battles to liberate Black River and Brewers order was restored in the south however not before French captains captured the Spanish port of Mugeres in the north. Over the following week some the most intense fighting of the whole war take place of some 250+ combined French, Spanish and British captains on a daily basis. With the captured of Conil and Cuyo the port of Mugeres was put under British Blockade however a heroic French captain in a mere traders Lynx broke through the blockade and led the capture of the Spanish port of Jagua in southern Cuba. The same day British forces captured 6 ports on all sides of Jagua in an effort to contain the French and remove their last port ending their ability to threaten British colonies in the region. However the blockade failed once again though this time it was under some strain from dishonourable individuals. With the pirate port of Manzanilla captured by France the Tour de France shall continue tomorrow, more updates to come. Please keep it clean guys French and British captains have held honourable relations inside combat despite their opposition so we have no need for forum trolls who were likely not even present to tarnish the reputation of either side or drag this war through the mud. Keep this thread on topic, moderators i suggest you send out warnings to people who fail to read this since they have no interest other then to cause strife and poison the community. I will update this thread as the war continues to unfold.
