Patch 9.7 - Land sighted

I haven't played the patch yet, but have to wonder: perhaps  the combination of improved AI accuracy, increased penetration/faster sinking, and elimination of NPC captures doesn't representative of an effort by the devs to reduce the proliferation of SOLs somewhat?

So trying and be constructive and concise about this latest patch - And keeping objective for game improvement for all players...

Positives

+ Land in battle - Superb, great job!

+ Much bigger NPC Fleets for high ranks and clan to have fun with

+ Mortar Brig - interesting - but pretty specialised but that's ok. It has its place.

And then the bad stuff...

- NPC Terminator Ships - high accuracy, seemingly faster reload, High penetration, massive damage and high armour (NPC Essex side by side with my Live Oak Trinc with full carros all on target and I loose probably twice the armour in the same single exchange)

- XP Requirement changes (What Im nearly admiral, last night I was half way to Flag captain) I feel I have been robbed of my efforts to get to this level and the right to sail a 3rd rate has just been dropped in my lap.

- Holy hell - How many MASSIVE Fleets

- Traders now the unicorns of the game

- Mixed smaller mid fleets also now much more rare and don't risk it anyway as they will kick your ass what ever you sail.

- I understand and accepted the no capture change - however, It has largely killed my interest in NPC fleets.

- Anti-Ganking Measure - Not sure that quite the answer or solution yet.

This feels like a huge swing in reaction to a number of peoples suggestions on this forum. Well we got what was asked for and its a shocker.

You play very much like me ao im thinking you may have the same problems as i found before just logging off in disappointment.

In a side note in 5 hours of play i saw 1 enemy player to attack in the best hot zones. I did see crossed swords for events ever 30 feet though so im guessing most players have found the place to hide from ow they wanted.

Just a bad patch.

I'm not sure I'm on board with the new cannon penetration values or perhaps it was an adjustment to armor values? Not sure exactly which one but it does seem like our ships are a lot more flimsy then they were before the patch. The problem being is that there has been a long, long history of continually tweaking various ship values and performance....whether that be gun penetration, armor values, leaks, mast strength, gun loadouts, turning performance etc. Some of this has been good and some bad but that is what testing is for so no complaints. However, have we not tested the heck out of all this mostly in sea trials leading up to Early Access? Were there still complaints about how the combat mechanics felt? It seemed to me we had achieved a happy place regarding it so why keep messing with it? Work on other stuff :)

There are good things in this patch but I really wish we would have just left the combat dynamics/performance part alone.

just roll back this patch now and fix the things that need to be fixed after all we are just testing for you so it wont really matter much

the flooding is out of control even the slightest ram will prob sink you

roll this back till it is tested correctly

install a real test server and roll back this patch

Agree, Agree and Agree.  :D

On the positive note I really like how the land in battles was done. I think the larger scale version of the open world map is the best way to go and it makes the battles feel more varied and tied to the world.

Aye!

So far I'm loving it, AI is badass now which I love, love the land battles, love the new fleet missions, love that you remove the npc caping but still allow pvp caping. Awesome update! thanks

Tough the anti-ganking system I havent tried it yet and I don't think it should be there because PVP is PVP, you should expect to be ganked at some point, if there are whiners out there let them go to a PVE server, we don't want/like them in PVP

As the game is presently, you still have no problem enjoying your PVP though it will limit your group to 6 vs. 1 instead of 12 or more vs. 1

Is that really a problem?

And I do realize that it obliges you to pay more attention to sailing in a tightly formed pack in OW to achieve this but hey, isn't skill part of what you are after?

Or do you really get a kick by slaughtering someone sailing in a 3rd rate with your pack of 12~14 mates?

It's the principle of the matter... Could you happen to get smashed by a fleet of 12 ships sailing into your territory in all reality? Yes you could...players should be more diligent on scanning the horizon or looking for ambushes to ensure they aren't going to fall prey to an immensely powerful fleet. Run and sound the alarm. If you are foolish enough to be too far away from help or to not have an escape plan then that's on you. It also takes away from using land masses strategically to introduce more ships into a fight. Life isn't fair... This is the problem with the world nowadays... Everyone expects the government (devs) to protect them from their own poor decisions. If you don't want to be ganked, the pve servers are open. Edited by Rigel

the land in battles is really awesome, i love it.

The not being able to cap endless free ships for port battles anymore is also awesome.

AI super fleets and new missions are awesome too. real challenge.

The leaking is a serious problem, the aim is right the execution is very poor. you might turn this into a ramming game and everyone will hate it. see the thread in combat mechanics for full details.

The anti-ganking measure is harsh and it has a nasty side effect where you can use small ships to break apart tightly packed player fleets unfairly and then defeat small parts of them. this is clearly unintended but it has no postive side in either game play or realism. its going to be horrible exploited.

First off, let me just say to the Game Devs, this game is great. I love it. It is right up my ally being a big fan of this time period in the age of sail. Having said that, I can't play this game as of the latest patch. I'm sorry. I have obsessed with this game and have spent over 200 hours playing it. Now i can thank the Devs for allowing me to put it down for awhile. as it stands today with the new patch, it's become virtually unplayable. I can still do my econ until and If you fix this mess. What say you?

And why am i a landsmen? >:(

Well devs, judt look At the whole thing, for every player saying its a good patch(and i bet they havent tries it yet)there are 4 saying its the biggest fail in naval action history

I recommend doing a roll back and getting a test server runnig like NOW, delay the patch 1 week more and let people try the patch before ruining the game for everyone.

This patch is full of great content and I'm thrilled with about 75% of it, but now that I've gotten to see all it's aspects a few features need to be tuned:

1) Leaks need to be rolled back from where they are right now, as Leaks are so severe ships are sinking to the deeps far too quickly.

2) Captured AI ships should be able to be sailed with their 1 durability OR sold to the admiralty, forcing admiralty feels wrong. The "stakes" of capturing ships in the hopes you might get a master-craft you can actually sail feel ruined, and it's not nearly as fun.

3) Anti-Ganking mechanics break the metagame of intercepting ships on the way to port battles, which makes port battles less fun.

This is my first post ever and I felt compelled to post because I had a lot less fun playing today than I have in the past, although I see the potential for this patch to be the best yet if properly tuned.

please re-work leaks...

as i can see, you have introduced the old ''sea trials'' situation, that is good but give us back our 3 hull repair and 2 sail repair.   Ai damages are too heavy, i've lost 1 3rd rate live oak vs 2 surprise...they penetrated my side like using carronades with double shots and i have a low quality fir  planks...their 5-6 broadsides destroyed quite all my side.

reduce also number of men required for leak or reduce ''easy-mode leak'' creation...580 men repairing some leaks on a 3rd rate is game over, non fun cause is impossible to find a solution.

other things are very good, really.

but please resolve leaks/ram situation fast.

Yep sorry - Missed a few other Massively painful issues in my previous post

+1 - this leak thing is a totally disaster

+1 - Ramming - yep that's bad

+1 - So far these posts mostly cover ship battle issues - I've just read that the economic changes in this patch really do me fixed prices at all ports regardless of how much players dump stock! So experienced trading game is also now dead and another reason not to sail further than a couple of ports.

This forum probably has a lot to answer for given the moaning that's been going on about the Grind + OW Sailing time + Craft Hours + Lack of local resources

This appears to be the result and what a mess we are in now.
