  1. I got into a war with the USA, who had a 300 ship fleet as Italy when I had about 70 ships. I fought them for 2 real-life evenings, about a year in game, did dozens of battles, sank 280 of their ships, put in really a lot of time into it to defeat them in every way possible, and then when peace happened despite thrashing them to the point they had a revolution and no navy left could not even get morocco in the peace deal (they only thing they had that I wanted). The money I was offered for this thumping victory was about the same as it cost me to sail my entire fleet home in wartime before I could put them on limited. Literally earned taxi money home and that's it. I just quit in annoyance to come back to it later and when I came back to the autosave later it didn't even offer me the peace screen. I was just no longer at war and didn't even get the money. War was just magically over and I didn't get a single ship, dollar, or territory. There is no autosave to go back to, nothing to be done. Two evenings totally wasted in terms of game progress. This is a phenomenally frustrating gameplay experience on every level for a game that is supposedly in release state. Firstly an autosave shouldn't erase any start of turn events and pretend they never happened, and secondly you should be able to get more out of peace deals in the first place.
  2. Ok, I don't remember seeing values this high before, but maybe I just wasnt paying as much attention after the early years. The 37.5 inches deck penetration at 30,000m still seems wrong though. Can't imagine a shell at that distance plunging having 2/3rds the penetration of a point blank shot. But since hits at that range are staggeringly unlikely I guess it doesn't matter much in gameplay. holding Alt is a neat feature, I didnt know about that.
  3. Have gun penetration values gone completely crazy, or is this just me, or is this a bug, or...It cant always have been like this right? 60 inches of belt penetration at point blank, 37.5 inches of deck penetration at 30,000m? This is 1920 start germany, I found the same result with 1920 france, britain, japan etc. all with capped ballistic 2 shells. The step ups are consistent across all the different shell types. Perhaps the yardstick is wrought iron or something? but I dont remember the values always being like this, I used to use them to choose my armour thickness, to create a realistic invulnerable zone. So if this is deliberate its a very odd decision, how do I translate these values into something useful? Because if these penetration values are for real steel armour, armour is pointless.
  4. Ahhh, that's what I saw. I somehow remembered that as a setting, not a vote. Thanks
  5. I am sure that a setting exists, or existed, to turn these off? when I started my previous campaign (first time back to the game in a while) I think I saw it, but left them switched on. But now I started a new campaign, and I cant find this setting anywhere. Did I imagine it? or am I just missing it somewhere.
  6. I cant stand the spotting/visibility/fog mechanics anymore. Its made the game so frustrating its unplayable. This has been an issue for 2 years and nothing has changed. I dont understand why this entire game is played in perpetual fog, both visually and mechanics wise. Only being able to spot ships when they are 3-6km away on a fine clear day is just nonsensical. I have all these battles where I steam towards the enemy and they ambush me like its in a thick forest or something. The AI always spots first, and starts firing, and then all of them instantly dump smoke, and you just end up in this confusing nonsense of not really being able to see where the enemy fleet is. Please don't quote arguments of realism, I spend a lot of time by and on the sea, and am painfully and intimately aware of how things look and appear at different distances. not being able to spot a destroyer sized ship until its 4km away in fine weather is rubbish, it has no basis in reality. Im tired of it, i've been playing the beta for years on and off and despite a lot of talk about this, nothing has changed. Please, just let us be able to see the enemy fleet before the shooting starts, to allow some tactics and positioning and planning, rather than just groping around in the fog until the enemy mess/furball of ships appears. there is so much wonderful stuff about this game, and so much stuff that isnt great yet but is rapidly improving, but this issue never changes. This is not what the sea looks like on a typical day. It just isnt. this is what a fleet/seascape looks like on a typical day. Please, please, please...please, please.. just tone down the fog and increase the spotting distances. please. I just want to be able to see the game I am playing, and see the enemy I am playing against.
  7. no, its working now. Thanks
  8. I see lots of people having trouble with verification, but i cant even get the buy now link to work. it just blank pages. tried on multiple browsers.
  9. I don't think I have ever even heard of a total war where the aggressor manufactured an excuse to do to war, failed one tiny attack, tried to sue for peace despite never being counter attacked, then ran away so far that they actually left their own country. even the French wouldn't do that. you were literally defeated by your own fears, divisions, and some words on the forums. People say forum PvP isn't or shouldn't be a real thing but here, Britain defeated spain in a total war, and the only real fighting was on the forums. It is quite beautiful and extraordinary to behold. thank you for the lolz.
  10. The really bizzare thing is that on both occasions it crashed my router badly, and for a long time confused the shit out of it and my PC. first time I thought it was co-incidence, but after the second one. I have no idea how this Is possible.
  11. Lol Sunday night. definitely not going to get fixed anytime soon eh?
  12. Jorge announced that they are going to stop doing RvR and all go back to Havana due to the 'bugs'. Since this is not starships troopers, the bugs are not the problem. what he really means is that they realise they are not going to have an easy win and are running away using some lame excuses. either way, the 'total' war is over without really a shot being fired.
  13. Brits would have made port battles today at both Salamanca and Carta without that bug. so all the bug did was delay by 1 day. the problem is not the bug, the problem is you started a war you cant fight. 1 day. 1 day. literally. you would not have been able to defend both ports. so, this whole 'bug' excuse is just pathetic. you were going to lose that port from the moment of your melodramatic war declaration.
  14. You failed at Omoa because you brought the wrong ships and played the wrong way. you brought 1st rates to open water fighting, and didn't escort them properly. we could have used Lynxs/privateers/pickles as fire ships with the same effect. you simply played it badly. then, you didn't come back in the correct ships to get hostility, you just rage quit. You failed at Georgetown because you didn't expect us to have allies and we screened you. you were disorganized and weren't in the right places at the right time. yes, the tagging mechanics are dumb at the moment, but they work both ways. You lost Cartagena because we can make 2 fleets and you 1. ok, the port activation was a bug, but we would have activated both ports at the same time the next day. so, you would have had exactly the same problem, just a day later and there would have been no bug involved. your mistake was declaring 'total war' on a bigger nation. of course Brits would use their numbers to advantage to counter your better ships. you were going to lose Cartagena today if you didn't lose it yesterday, because you cant defend 2 ports and we can attack 3. The problem is not that you lack ships, or skill in PBs, you just were led by arrogance and emotion and no strategy whatsoever. its remarkably childish the whole mess you got yourselves into and you have no one but yourselves to blame. Britain didn't want war with you, and only defended our port at Omoa. now you have lost Carta, and the only people who can be blamed are yourselves! Not Brits, not Devs, not SORRY. you are just lucky that despite your declaration of total war, saying that all british clans were scum who you wouldn't even talk to and definitely wouldn't allow to surrended, the British clans were adult enough to let you keep the ports you need and accept peace despite the insults and accusations. What a shame this whole episode is on the Spanish clan/nation. try being less arrogant, and less melodramatic, rely on being smart not on being in big ships and try and just have fun. you will do better.
  15. They weren't late, that was a bug where the rest of the world was 30 mins early. so if anything, its the devs fault. And those weren't 18 Oceans, that was a bug where a bunch of ships were accidentally duped. actually they only had 3 players there.
  16. yeah, the system is slightly buggy right now. (same bugs for everyone) Better immediately give up on the 'total war with no surrender or diplomacy' as a result of that. That is the only logical course of action at this point, after the massive effort you put in with all that posturing. everyone totally believes that is your reason. the bugs. not that you bit off more than you can chew.
  17. pft, most of our PvP players went to Gobal, most of the rest are inexperienced or not organized or moved to other nations on EU. numbers isn't everything, the quality in Brits right now is very low and organized clans would be very effective against them if they actually tried. Also, If I was a small nation, I wouldn't melodramatically declare war on a big nation and expect not to get swarmed. If I had declared war, I wouldn't then immediately give up when there was a problem or I did indeed get swarmed. either way, it doesn't look good or smart what you guys have done. you cant punch a much bigger guy in the face, then wake up from your coma and complain he only won because he was bigger, or accuse him of picking on a small guy.
  18. What fighting? if you mean when basic cutters chased away 1st rates, I don't think that counts. other than that, there was literally no fighting before you gave up. And there is no point claiming we only fight when we have lots of help, we once fought every single nation apart from the Dutch all at the same time, and didn't lose. nor did we give up when minor bugs or adverse events happened. so.....
  19. This is too wonderful. I provide a Spanish - English translation service below To our rightful overlords the british. we are going to use a minor bug, that is really not a big deal at all and nothing compared to previous problems us and others have had, as an excuse to back out of this melodramatic 'total war'. We realized very soon after the war started that we would face actual resistance, in the form of a number of small clans and random players in frigates. now, we do have a huge fleet of Oceans, but we are worried that if we have to actually fight in them, some of them might get scratched and we really, really don't want that. We assumed that the british wouldn't have the guts to resist us, especially with our masters SORRY to help us, after all, that's what we would do in that situation. So, having started this war in error, and not wanting to admit we are just too wussy to actually carry out the melodramatic actions we committed to just 4 days ago, we are going to seize on this very weak excuse and minor problem and run all the way home. we think people will fall for this. I mean, we once participated in a mass attack on British nation where 7 ports were attacked at once, and all were defended, but we cant fight 2, that's madness. better to not try at all in case we fail, after all, games are about not having fun with the ships we have spent dozens of hours crafting. right? right? As a parting comment, and to try and pass the blame for this embarrassment, I would like to try and blame the devs, who dare to have bugs in this alpha game. its a total disgrace etc. etc. etc. So, we are going to run home, please no one come and attack us despite our threats and posturing, we are really just a bunch on overly emotionally driven people who want to have big ships and act scary without having to really fight. Devs please could you just arrange us a server where we have big ships, and the enemy nations are just full of bots who run away and offer their surrender? this is our best type of enemy. thanks.
  20. So, literally the first opportunity to have a real fight in this 'total war' and its going to be solved without a single shot being fired? And no fun was had by all! Rofl I mean, seriously, I get that the bugged hostility thing was lame but why not just abandon Cartagena and have a real port battle at Salamanca? Spanish would almost certainly have been able to defend it and it would have involved actual fun, rather than this lameness and the result would have been the same!!!!!
  21. lol wut? could your lies be any more ridiculous? For most of PvP EU history the british fought either alone or with 1-2 allies against the combined Spain, pirates, swedes, Danes and French attacks on every part of our nation. Our only allies in that period were intermittently the US (who we also fought at first) and the Dutch (who never really came up to the main british areas, our alliance was more of an agreement not to attack each other). The US and Dutch were two of the weaker nations for most of that period. the US was only strong when we weren't allies, and only allies once they were weakened by mass exodus. The dutch were never strong outside their immediate area. Not only that, but the majority of our wars (with the notable exception of Spanish) were defensive in nature and took place in our waters. the only other exception being a sustained defence of Barbados, and a short Danish campaign (in itself a counter attack). So, we were a strong nation yes, certainly the strongest single nation at the time. but we usually allied with weak nations to defend against the huge coalition. the only time we fought a real offensive war (the Spanish war) we had 0 allies. none. zip, nothing, nada. And the comparison to real life? really? really? haven't we all grown up past that yet? So, like I know there is a well worn theory that a 'big lie' is more effective than a small one, but I think you overdid it by just reversing every fact you could think of.
  22. Wait, the guilty of the cutter dirty war is who? The Spanish, who started it over a week ago (see above), or the British, who responded, or then the Spanish again, who finished it? Not to mention, the brits didn't even care when you camped outside Belize in cutters. you are sitting there complaining about your own tactics and blaming us for them, which is really odd. When we try and raise hostility in PIRATE waters while we were not at war, you block us with cutter swarm as above. ok, its lame but we didn't complain. Then, when we are still not at war, you invade our area with an entire fleet of 1st rates, with no warning, and we defend OUR WATERS with the only thing we can against 1st rates. fire ships. if the game didn't allow basic cutters, we would have used other cheap ships with the same result. THEN you declare total war on us, for daring to defend ourselves against your unprovoked aggression, defending using tactics you used on us first, and you then switch back to those same tactics yourselves, too afraid to use your 1st rate fleet even though you know we cant fight it. if you were any good at the game and used escorts and screening for your heavy ships, even fireships wouldn't work. You say hilarious things like 'now you have CMs so you can fight', when we have had them only for 2 weeks income off two ports, so, that's like 10% of what you have had total. Can you expect anyone to take you seriously when you make such obvious nonsense and hypocritical posts? If you had any guts, you would have accepted the Swedish offer of a war, but you don't, so you didn't. You only want to fight against people who are not even allowed to defend themselves!
  23. whatever dude, don't be so prideful. capital, capital region, whatever. you beat us by throwing hordes of cheap ships at us so fast we couldn't kill them all and still get to the port, a perfectly legitimate tactic but more to do with economy/logistics than spirit. Also, the game mechanics now wont even let us create a battle with your fleet of 1st rates. the BR difference will be too high, so we cant even use your same tactics. And cherry picking battles you won, blaming your defeats on 'not being there' lol. I was in a dozen or so full fleet battles and I remember losing exactly once. my memory is just fine. its better to have a memory that's refreshed rather than one that's been altered to only remember good bits. at least I was honest and acknowledged you fought well and got us to a draw, which is what happened factually. trying to make it out that you only lost when you weren't there and after that just beat us easily is hilariously daft. do you work for Sean Spicer by any chance? if not, you should send him an application. he would like your style. You missed the point either way, being that the experience of being reduced to very few ports forged the national strength. something I hope happens to the brit nation.
  24. to anyone who says that 'organisation' is the problem of the british and dismiss it as our fault, please, come over here and see the reality. 1. Britain is the starting nation of most new players it seems. and thus, it is a nightmare to explain to them what is going on or organise them. All they care about is that they get ganked by the vast armada of raiders from all nations outside, and all they want the clans to do is protect them 24/7. they don't understand that most of our important resources come from a long way away, and that they need protecting or we have nothing. They also don't understand the important of having the best PB fleet in important battles. since the CM changes, it is a total free for all to get into these battles, so its IMPOSSIBLE even if we have the ships, to get a good PB fleet into battle, as 50+ unclanned players in surprises will try to get in. this is not an easy fix in any way. So when people say we have the biggest playerbase, well maybe, but in this game quality is everything over quantity. other nations have this problem, but its not as severe. 2. Most of our active PvP and RvR players left for the global server, to get away from the very boring and tiring anti-British propaganda and aggression. we are seen as 'the evil empire' but most of the people who earned that title, don't even live here anymore!!!! not only that, but those who are left are scattered in 20 understrength clans, who want to cling onto their identities. its not possible to convince them to merge, its the internet, the ability to persuade them is very limited. other nations have this problem, but not as extensive, and the same solutions don't work in such a large and spread out nation. 3. A lot of the clans now in Britain are not English speaking, or have anti-British agenda. we have several clans, who when even politely approached for co-operation ignore us or are obscenely rude. some are even working for other nations against us or are alts. its not possible to 'organise' these groups, we don't have the levers of power. we had some clans who actively tried to ruin the Danish-British deal, and partially succeeded. instead of 3 ports activated, only 2 was achieved, because some Brit clans managed to sabotage them. I am aware other nations have had similar issues, especially the swedes I know, but the scale is different, and they were able in their very small area to control it. this isn't possible in Britain. Anyway, ironically the one thing that might force Britain to work together is being reduced to 1 port. so, fine! whatever. but don't pretend that we have a chance in that war, its not a lack of effort, skill or organisation ability that will make us lose, its simply circumstance. This is the nation that simultaneously defended 7 ports against 4 nations in every corner of the map. That was on a day that the Spanish in particular claimed would be the end of Britain and was celebrated in advance. We are not incapable when we have the resources and ships, we are just handicapped this time, there will be no repeat of black Friday this time! But seriously, I think the best thing for the brit nation would be to be hammered flat and have to start again. it happened to the Spanish, who were hopeless before they were reduced to their capital and lost almost every serious engagement. after that, they were forced to improve, merge clans, get better and now they have a serious nation with good PvP players who were able to fight Britain to a draw in west cuba (albeit it with help). so hopefully, a similar thing will happen to the brits.
  25. I don't 'like' it, but when you are in a corner and being attacked on multiple fronts, you do what you have to to survive at the time, and worry about the consequences later. there is no point in this game being strictly 'honorable' if you are dead! In any case, the other big nations also use many exploits against us in the past, an I am sure will do again. so, every nation uses them against everyone. its just a sad thing about the internet.
