  2. I found some old pubs in Stockholm around 1700. Only a few of those are left today. Zum Franziskaner - Named after the german order of St Francis. The oldest pub in Stockholm, dated from 1421. Shares it's logo with the German Beer brewery with the same name. Den Gyldene Freden - The golden peace 1721 Källaren Stralsund - The Stralsund Basement, 1502 was a shelter for homeless that also was allowed to sell alcohol, become Holländska Dyhn in 1659, but nowadays it has it's original name again. Quite unsure when it changed back. Förgylda Nyckeln - The Gilded Key Amsterdams börs och Constantinopel - Amsterdams purse and Constantinopel Sveriges Vapen - Swedens Arms Holländska Dyhn - Dutch Dyhn ( Dunno exactly what they ment with the last word, it might be mud ) Stjärnan - Star Europa - Europa Riga - Riga Draken - Dragon Tre kungar - Tree Kings Druvan - Grape Krypin - Cubbyhole? Pelikan - Pelican Tre kronor - Tree Crowns The one with Bold text are still open today. I even have some names of the places were the sailors / residents would go to find those girls who are not exactly what you would bring home to introduce to you parents I can post them also if you are interested

  4. Kalmar Nyckel (Calmare Nyckel ) Built in Holland (1625), bought by The Swedish Southern Company (1628) and was 1 of 2 ships that brought most of the Swedish colonist to New Sweden ( Delaware ) It sunk in late 1600's A replica was built in Delaware in 1997 Maybe add it ingame as a low level / very light tradeship?
  5. Yeah, small ships roll alot more than the bigger ones
  6. I do understand why you want it but i do doubt that it would help much as i mentioned in the earlier post. I wanted something similar like that until i realized that it would not help me at all. It would actually make me miss the target more. The reason is that if you lock the elevation on the guns, the rolling of the ship would still change the elevation of the guns so you would still undershoot / overshoot the target. The key is ( and i'm no expert on this because i still miss way to much ) is to test fire, and quickly analyze how both your ship and the enemy's is located in the water and then try to calculate where your ship will be next and adjust your test shot for that. Having patience to wait for the right moment is the key. ( This is were i fail, especially on a stormy map. I usually kill the fishes or the seagulls )
  7. That was what made France really good in that game. A tight community who worked together, govern by a leader who had the assistance of the soc-leaders on the French side. The mix of strategy, diplomatic relations and epic RP of the leaders was something that was quite unique for that game and i hope it can move on to Naval Action.
  8. How would this help? Isnt that a bit counter-productive? Ships moves all the time, either they are closing in on each other or they are moving apart. Not to mention ship rolling. I believe having something like that wouldn't help the player to improve is aim.

During the liberation wars, Sweden bought a fleet from Lübeck so getting ships out of country wasnt something new.

Less biased english wiki? It's a translation of the swedish wiki. The dutch ships was hired vessels. The leader of the dutch ships was an man born in Holland(Martin Thyssen Anckar Hjelm ) https://translate.google.se/translate?hl=sv&sl=sv&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fsv.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FSj%C3%B6slaget_vid_Femern&sandbox=1 but who served the Swedish crown, he even become an amiral of the Swedish navy. So it was a big victory with for the Swedish navy. Sure it had it's mercernaries but what navy / army didnt have that during this time?

Taken from the Sweden looks interesting thread. The links are translated with Google Translate so they might be a bit messed up. Klas Horn who defeated the danish navy during the northern seven year's war. Had several crushing wins against the Danes. https://translate.google.se/translate?sl=sv&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=sv&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fsv.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FKlas_Kristersson_%2528Horn%2529&edit-text= Carl Gustaf Wrangel, An admiral who chrushed the Danish fleet at the battle of Femern. 13. Did it really have that color-scheme? It looks really nice!
  14. I have read simular articles telling the same about swedish iron ore as well. Sweden was one of the major iron exporting countries during this time. I dont know how good wikipedia is for reference because anyone can edit pages but i found this article there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregrounds_iron
  15. I wouldnt mind buying rum from another player and go down to the harbor, drink the rum, yell at the seagulls and curse the name of the player who tried to sink me earlier
  16. So the Portuguese discovered Greenland and Newfoundland in 1498 even thou the vikings had colonized thoose areas( they sent christian missionaries there around they year 1000.. That map is sadly full of errors... *oops , i missed Thomas Aagaard's post
  17. Seems like the interest is low for some reason :-/
  18. I have spoke some with the Swedish National Maritime Museum and sadly it seems like finding blueprints of some of the older Swedish ship ( year 1600 ) is quite hard, The main reason is that there arnt that much blueprints saved from that time or if they even created some. Creating blueprints wasnt really a common thing to do back than But they also had some good news, according to them they have transfered much of the blueprints to microfilm and according to them, they have found. Göta Lejon 1745 70 Guns Wasa - 1778 60 Guns Konung Karl 108 Gun Trippledecker ( Rare in Sweden ) They might even have Göta Lejon 1702 90 Guns. They have offered me to visit them to check out the microfilm archive and if it's the ships i mentioned in some of the others threads here on the forum they are more than willing to make copies of thoose blueprints for me. Would you be interested in thoose? ( They couldnt guarantee that the microfilm contains the complete blueprints, thats why they told me to visit them to check out if what i want really is in the archive , but as they also said, if it's on microfilm, it is usually a good sign )
  19. Because it's their ship and not yours? You can also turn that around, why do you want to enforce your ideas on others? Ships in Sweden had several flags that told showed the rank of the commanding officer on the ship.
  20. Finding a Swedish 1st or 2nd rate during this timeperiod is quite difficult, mainly because we have always focused on having a navy that would be strong in the baltic sea. Our main enemy at this time was either Denmark , Russia or Prussia therefore we needed a navy that could operate near costal lines for both attack and defence. For example, go to goole maps and have a look how the sea entrence to Stockholm looks like from the sea. It's an arhipilago that contains more than 30.000 islands of all sizes. That's not a good place for a 1st or 2nd rates to sail around. What Sweden instead focused on was having few capital ships and instead focus on smaller heavier ships that could operate well in shallow conditions. and after the year 1764, they focused to buildt ships that carried around 70 cannons instead. I found this document ( in Swedish thou ) that tell us how the Swedish Lineship fleet looked like between 1721-1860. http://www.sjohistoriskasamfundet.se/fn/fn45-lag.pdf This is some of the info i found that might be what you are looking for. Sadly it contains only data and no blueprints or whatsoever. But i guess they can be found in the archives. Btw, Sweden didnt use the 1st rate, 2nd rate system, instead they used the weight of the ship to determinate the class. Here is some info translated for you: Size group 1: Ships 2500 tons and larger, armaments containing 30, 18 and 8 pounds cannons, 3 gundecks. Of this group, there was originaly only one ship, Konung Carl buildt in 1694, it had originally 108 cannons but was later rebuildt twice and had the amount of cannons lowered to 100 and later on 90. Maybe buildt to early BUT this ship somehow managed to stay active until 1771 (it got scraped because it started to decay) When it was buildt, it was one of the largest ships in the world, but that soon changed during the middle of 1700. Size group 2: Ships 2100-2500 tons and larger, armaments containing 24, 18 and 8 or 6 pounds cannons, 3 gundecks. (First ship in this class was Stora Kronan, or as most people call her, Kronan but that ship doesnt match the timeperiod sadly) Other ships mentioned here is Göta Lejon ( Buildt 1702, 90 cannons) and Enigheten ( buildt 1696), trippledecker carried 94 cannons ) but was later renamed to Konung Fredrik. 1768 she was rebuildt and she was reduced to a 70 cannon doubledecker. She was scrapped in 1785! Some info reg. this ships mention her in the battle at Rügen 1715 when she was hit more than 40 times in the waterline and still somehow manage to stay alive. Size group 3: Ships 1800-2100 tons and larger, armaments containing 24, 18 and or 6 pounds cannons, 3 gundecks. They mention several ships here but for some reason they mention them by number instead of names. I need to read the entire document to find the answer. ( found it, there was a list at the end of the document, ) What they say is that 3 ships whith 80-90 cannons was buildt between 1683-1684. Sverige, later renamed to Göta Rike and later on Prins Karl, was a 80 gun doubledecker it seems. Sunk in 1724 and two trippledeckers, one mentioned as Drottning Ulrika Elenora, buildt in 1692 was a 80 gun lineship, it was set on fire and sunk during the batlle of Fermen 1715. There are lots and lots more but this is all i manage to translate so far ( it's late and i'm tired ) , it seems like heavier 4th/ 5th rates. And there is also the Swedish Galley Fleet but they are no way near a 2nd rate even thou they might have sunk one. ( Dont quote me on that one ) The search continues. Both for images and blueprints.
  21. Ghöteborg is nice, but my favorite ship of the one mentioned must be Öland. The story about that ship is quite interesting. Öland was escorting a Swedish convoy when it meet a English squadron ( 8 ship of the line and 1 frigate, toally 430 guns ) when it was passing thru the northern parts of the English channel. The English forces started to attack Öland when it's captain ( Captain Psilander ) refused to lower the Swedish flag to salute the English one.( Swedish captains was ordered by King Karl XII to never lower their flag to anyone. ) The English ships fired two warning shots, but captain Psilander still refused, but instead fired back and the battle started. After been under fire from the 9 English ships for more than 4 hours the Swedish ship had took damage and was unable to manouver. Captain Psilander refused to surrender but instead ordered that the flag would be raised in schau ( you tie the flag in such matter to tell other ships that your ship was in distress ) The English forces stopped the firing. They captured the ship and sailed the ship and it's crew to London for repairs and to stand trial ( the captain was sent to prision for one month) where they had to stay for 3 months before they could sail home again. Sadly, the ship sunk on it's way home after running aground outside skagen in northern Denmark. The outcome of the battle: On the Swedish side, the Ship Öland was damaged, 16 crewmember died and 37 was wounded. On the English side, 3 ships was damaged, 20 crewmember died and 80 was wounded. The captain later became an admiral in the swedish fleet and got knighted by the king. And later on he become Governor of the island Gotland to protect it from attacking russians with great success. His coat of arms doesnt really need any explanation. Both the one he got when he was knighted and later on when he become a baron tells the story about the batte of orford ness. A battle between 2 countries who was not at war with eachother. Honor was everything back then... The coat of arms of Psilander. Please note the English banners on top. The 50-gun Ship of the line Öland So i guess the lesson from this is, if you get ganked, give them hell!
  22. Wouldnt it be better if the crew then actually yelled what sailed they lost instead of screaming percentage? I doubt many sailors during this time even knew what a percent is
  23. A question thou, should a player who recive the damage be able to see the health bars of his own ship or should he spin the camera around ( how they managed to do that in RL i dont know but...quadracopters perhaps? ) to inspect his own ship all the time?
