  1. Lol this made me laugh, Not at all focused on the dutch huh?
  2. Propellers ( and a engine of course ) are a required saftey issue when ships of those sizes are traveling in heavy trafficked sea-lanes. They help the ship to keep a steadier route.
  3. May i suggest adding an outer ring on the compass to show direction of nearby shallow areas? My example, Shallow areas sighted on the front port side of the ship.
  4. Not if they use a system simular to Potbs. You create a flag / sailpattern and then upload it to the server. After it pass thru the checkout, it's added to your account and only you can acquire it.

    Ship Classes

Would fire ships classify as their own class? http://www.marinmuseum.se/ImageVaultFiles/id_4658/cf_10/Br-nnare.jpg A swedish fire ship.

  7. I'm planning to visit the Swedish Maritime museum in the next couple of weeks. I spoke with them earlier and they will help me check the microfilm archives for blueprints. There is still alot of documents who hasnt been scanned yet. The ships i'm focusing on atm are Konung Karl, Wasa, Göta Lejon , Gustaf III and Amarant. I can check if they have anything on Kronan also. If they have any i will get the blueprints and have them scanned. It there any other ship that could be of interest?
  8. Well, many of the Swedish frigates at this time could do this, because they were also equipped with oars. http://www.sjohistoriska.se/sv/Fordjupning/MarketStore/Ritning/?msobjid=0015619&Origin=SM
  9. Tbh, the day i stopped play Potbs was the day my consumption of rum dropped I wonder if this game will change that back
  11. Back in 2003, this ship was found by accident when a ship who searched after a swedish DC-3 airplane ( who got shot down by the russians during the cold war, search for the catalina affair ) saw it on their monitors. Standing almost completly intact on 130 meters depth, this two masted shipwreck seems to be an old dutch flute. It's nicely decorated but it seems like it carried no guns. It's belived to be around 400 years old, wich makes it even older than Vasa. The identity of the ship is still unknown. Later on, the research ship returned and sent down a remote controlled camera to record the wrecksite. ( The diving part starts around 5:08 ) Enjoy
  12. Well, the prototype to this ship was actually buildt and was planned to take part in the war against Russia. But when it was completed the war was already over. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Experiment_of_Leith Why the "final" version ( that the OP posted )never got built was becase King Gutaf III asked Af Chapman for advice with this ship and Af Chapman answered ( roughly translated ) "To take this idea and create a large armed naval ship is just the same as if you would want to give an elephant the shape of a flea just so it would be able to jump 100 times it's height up into the sky, but in the end all you end up with is a spoiled elephant and not a flea" Hehe i guess Af Chapman didnt like the idea with this ship even thou he mentions something about stability and speed.
  13. This one annoys me so much. Riksäpplet was a 84 gun SoL, buildt in 1661 and sunk outside Stockholm in 1676 ( after returning from the battle in wich the Kronan was lost ). She was designed by Francis Sheldon who most likely had used the English triple-decker Naseby as inspiration when he designed Riksäpplet. She sunk after her moorings broke during a storm and run aground. The wreck was well preserved at 15 meters depth ( it was actually even more preserved than Vasa ) until 1921 when some idiot decided to blow it up and use the wood to make the doors on the city hall of Stockholm.
  14. I agree when i read that list again it contains several errors. Biggest error is the Great Northern War wich was a major defeat for Sweden. The defeat marked the end of the Swedish Empire. Theater War was somewhat of a victory for Sweden. Sweden attacked Russia ( who had a defencive agreement with Denmark ) Denmark honored the agreement and attacked Sweden. Denmark conquered several towns on the Swedish west-coast but later surrendered ( or actually declared themself neutral) when Prussia assisted by Great Britain threatned to attack Danish Holstein. The Nordic Seven year's war was also somewhat of a victory for Sweden. Denmark had to give up their claims on the Swedish Crown, thereby ending what's left of the Kalmar Union. The Scanian war, hmm well, Danish army invaded Southern Sweden but got defeated by the Swedish army. The Danish Navy beat the Swedish navy. Saying that we lose all flagships is quite wrong, sure we lose several in battle, but many other didnt get sunk. Besides, doesnt most nations lose ships in horrible ways? Sovergin of the Seas? A single candle took her out. Hms Victory (1737) wasnt either a well buildt ship. She sunk with all her crew in the English Channel. Not to mention the Danish-Lübeck fleet in 1566? Anchored in a storm. 15 ships went down and 6000-7000 people died. The Spanish armada after the defeat got sunk when they tried to sail around Great Britain. And the list continues... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_maritime_disasters
  15. Last summer i created a thread that contains some video footage from several swedish ships in the baltic sea, one of them was Mars. You might like it. Sorry about the language thou. http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/1202-videos-from-wreckdivings-in-sweden/
  16. Dont listen to the bitter danish troll. Here are several flagships and other major ships that survived battle. I do agree that Sweden did loose alot of ship back then, but on the other side, Sweden did take part in lots of wars with several enemies at the same time. Viktoria (1658) 72 guns - Sold or Scrapped Smålands Lejon (1633) - Sold Konung Karl (1694) 108 guns - Scrapped Göta Lejon (1702) 90 guns - Sold Drottning Ulrika Eleonora (1719) 68 guns - Scrapped Stockholm (1708) 68 guns -Sold Hessen-Cassel (1731) 62 guns -Scrapped Göta Lejon (1746) 70 guns - Scrapped Konung Gustav IV Adolf (1799) 74 guns -Scrapped Sankt Erik (1560) 90 guns -Scrapped Wrangel (1664) 60 guns -Scrapped Äpplet (1622) -Sold Göta Ark (1634) 72 guns -Scrapped It cant be easy being danish and talk about warfare... From Gustav Vasa and to modern day: it cant be fun going from to Simply because they start war with nations that they cant beat...
  17. Yes they did? The ships were made to take part in battles, not to become drydock queens
  18. Yeah, i guess you are right. The lines of the ship matches so. It's a nice ship however
  19. They do almost look like it's the same ship but there is still some difference with the decorations, mainly around the coat of arms. Did St. Louis have any sisterships?
  20. Nope, not La Sirene. La Sirene has 4 gunports in the rear, this one only has 2. And the decorations doesnt match
  21. So i went through some of the documents on the Swedish maritime museum's website and i found this ship. Does anyone know what ship it is? All i know it looks like it's french.
  22. You found this in the replica thread i guess? Thanks for posting it! I'm not sure if that blueprint is 100% accurate thou. I think i saw it on a modelers site. I belive half the ship on that blueprint is actually the golden hind. Nm.. I just checked that site, the golden hind blueprints s presented underneath this one
