  1. As we start to see image of the open world, that got me thinking about the NPC. We can pretty much tell the OS will be vast and one way to make it more populated will be NPC.... Im kind of hoping the NPC will be a bit based like the characters in Mount and Blade... they are basically AI player that have "motivation" and attribute and progress as a human character.... They could even be unkillable(sic) as in M&B... One thing i like about M&B sandbox is that it doesn`t care about you.... you are a character in a world and the world doesn't revolve around you.... I think in NA with human player, NPC and the size of the world it could get really interesting. Speaking of M&B, i think will have something very simillar in the way it handle the open world and instance.... We have a time compression on the world map, same compression for everyone, and normal time when you get into an instance... Ony diffence in NA we dont have a 2d map but an gorgeous world to sail in...
  2. and to add another, most french fleet (is that the correct term???) so far have been based in France in RL, So time zone is a bit of a pain for me (in NA)
  3. I may be dreaming but i hope that reputation or progress is somehow based on accomplishing mission and not just damage, kill or capture. I have a vision of multi tiered mission for fleet/guild. Exemple if a commander decide to attack a port he would an objective set and a starting point. He could decide the number an type of ships and the system would automatically set the supply needed. One this is set some missions would be available to captains; -get ship to the starting point to form the fleet -merchant could pick supply mission to starting point -maybe an optional scout mission to the target port. -etc Once to sub missions completed the commander could launch the fleet for the attack.... I would like to see a system in game where you feel you bring something to the big picture and grt rewarded...
  4. Hornblower is good, but Aubrey/Maturin is soo much better, altough the parts he spent on land is a bit tedious, i guess it really reflect the whole career of a captain.
  5. So i get this right this fleet will be english speaking playing french and mostly based in North America..... You can count this acadian in....
  6. Je suis un ancien de POTBS, mais j ai seulement joué l première année. Je suis acadien mais des quebecois ferront bien l affaire aussi ;-)
  7. Je cherche des marins de la "Nouvelle-France" ;-)
  8. glad to see im not the only one who use price per hour to justify spending on games (especially to the significant other).
  9. really make me wonder how much keys are in a batch, One thing for sure, it`s a good news. Like Yogi Bera said... nobody goes there anymore it's too crowded
  10. I think the marker we have now is the best compromise IMO. It`s not too demanding, doesn`t add more animations and it gives you a good idea of when the guns are aimed and ready.
  11. I know ship that would vb more classified as merchant would be useless in the sea trial we have now but i think it would ve nice to a least try them out. Are any models done? Which ones are planned? indianman? Fluyt?
  12. I found a french treaty written in 1690 about the states water would go through aboard a ship. It was potable for about 2 months aboard, but with the tempersture near the tropics it would start to get a rusty colour and smelll terrible for about 2 weeks. It would then clear up a bit but still have a taste for about a week. She would the be somewhat pure for 3 . The the rust colour would reappear and worms would start to show up, about the lenght of a finger and the thickness of wheat blade. They would filter out the worms with cottons. After a few weeks the worms would dies out but the water would turn milky. She would then stay that way and still potable but smaller worm would be present so small that they could not be filtered. I use the term potable loosely. They finally figures thst the wood of the barrel would cause the water to ´rot´. And quality was improved when they started to carry it in tin barrel.
  13. I think they probably have more done than we think... If you look at the trial, all mechanics were in place quite a few months before it was open as you can see in videos back from at least june and july. I think they just did some polishing on the combat since november. I think it`s fair to assume that once we get some part of the open world, the actual work will be a few months ahead. I think they have the early access path pretty much right: deliver finished module one step at the time. I like to point to Kerbal space program as a successful early access devellopement. It pretty much was open for the last two years but will see the build 1.0 in the next month or so.
  14. No i wasnt pirate, i was french navy. I do remember the pirate capital being big but this one was even bigger, might have been a french capital. And only played the first year, this town was a reowrk and i remember people of forum complaining a lot about it. I do agree that some of the environnement were well made, but eventually the avatar part of the game was what drove me off Potbs. It felt like a warcraft clone (altough i never played warcraft).
  15. everytime i think avatar and POTBS i think of that HUUUUUUGE town they had in the beginning, it took 15 min to walk to the end to get a quest.... It was in the first year so i dunno if that stayed in... It had no gameplay value, wasted player time and devellopper time...
  16. I d like to join, but i assume you ll be sailing British... I m inclined to play french... Being french canadian ;-)
  17. Sorry for the poor pun... I just earned my Suprise yesterday and had a few battle with it. I was in a few PVP with a couple of bigger ship, and i haven`t seen those big boys since the first week. Those couple battle just amazed me and reminded me how cinematic the game already is. I did enjoy the PVP light, but i was getting a bit accustomed to it. Now when you see a Bellona dwarfing a Suprise and when you see him coupled with a few Constitutuion and Trinco it makes for a very amazing sight and sounds. Haven`t seen a Victory yet and can`t wait for the Trinidad. Keep up the excellent work.

  23. Playing my first game and i had this shanty in my head all along (unofficial Nova Scotia anthem) O the year was Seventeen Seventy-Eight How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now A letter of marque came from the king To the scummiest vessel I've ever seen Chorus: God damn them all I was told we'd cruise the seas for American gold We'd fire no guns, shed no tears Now I'm a broken man on a Halifax pier, The last of Barrett's Privateers O Elcid Barrett cried the town How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now For twenty brave men all fishermen who Would make for him the Antelope's crew The Antelope sloop was a sickening site How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now She'd list to the port and her sails in rags And the cook in the scuppers with the staggers and jags On the King's birthday we put to sea How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now Ninety-one days to Montego Bay Pumping like madmen all the way On the ninety-sixth day we sailed again How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now When a great big Yankee hove in sight With our cracked four-pounders we made to fight The Yankee lay low down with gold How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now She was broad and fat and loose in stays But to catch her took the Antelope two whole days Then at length she stood two cables away How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now Our cracked four-pounders made awful din But with one fat ball the Yank stove us in The Antelope shook and pitched on her side How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now Barrett was smashed like a bowl of eggs And the main truck carried off both me legs Now here I lay in my twenty-third year How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now It's been six years since we sailed away And I just made Halifax yesterday
  24. I think the Aubrey Serie is not only the best nautical novels but one of the best written adventure novels. The way he introduced the reader to the sailing terminology by the way of Maturin was just brilliant.
