  1. As far as ideas go, facebook hyper-targeted advertising is the cheapest and most efficient option, precise targeting is cheap ( as opposed to generalist ) since there is less competition, i have done advertising at 1p per person, and since you sell via internet you should normally have your conversion stats back via tracking pixel and url, but i have no idea how and if conversion stats work if your ad sends to the steam page instead of your own. Do A/B testing too. The only important thing is to be able to track conversion and continually adapt the ads to their specific targets. Steam sales are just as valuable for their added exposure as for the sale itself, if not more, so even a low discount is valuable at every single steam sale opportunity ( but too low creates a bad impression forever ) But yeah, too early, and the devs will probably get a marketing pro or agency in time.
  2. Here are some papers on pirates by Leeson: http://www.peterleeson.com/Pirates__Prisoners__and_Preliterates.pdf http://www.peterleeson.com/Pirational_Choice.pdf http://www.peterleeson.com/Rationality_Pirates_and_the_Law.pdf http://www.peterleeson.com/An-arrgh-chy.pdf http://www.peterleeson.com/The_Invisible_Hook.pdf
  3. There is nothing wrong with being a loyal subject of the crown. Better to drink tea than to throw it away...
  4. Love Piraro, he makes excellent comics! I highly recommend to check out his works http://bizarro.com/
  5. Seems very arbitrary; Given the many changes during that time, and the interesting various flags, i would be for letting players choose their own flags and switch it at will from an in-game database to suit their RP, historical and personalisation needs.
  6. We are happy with playing within a long timeframe with the innacuracies it creates rather than being stuck in a single perfectly modelled year.
  7. The older names sound older, more Historical, more legendary, more enticing. I say no, keep the older names with their charm.
  8. Great thank you. I do hope for a firefox version in the future but it's not like using various browsers in the same time was a problem. Nice work.
  9. Joseph banks is the real world inspiration for jospeh blaine. Maybe your edition has simply overlooked this error and it is corrected in subsequent editions.
  10. Hi, how about a privateer option, allowing to sign a timed contract ( letter of marque) of several weeks and up, so that a given captain can serve under various nations? With perhaps the personal advantage of variety and change, the exploration of the map over time, at the cost of say less rewards since the other party of the contract ( crown etc ) takes a cut? It should not be more attractive than being a member of a main faction. Possibly the balance advantage of a clan of privateers switching sides as need be for balance since many care about it ( but what war was ever balanced? ) The main issue would be traders simply using the letter of marque as a flag of convenience. Could restrict privateers to not be able to trade... but that's a restriction in gameplay. It is relatively common in some games to be able to serve an NPC faction for a given amount of time, building reputation, and earning some reward ( such as a faction specific ship/item ) Just a random undevelopped idea.
  11. Hopefully it will come at some point since it is perfectly doable. A similar system exists in other games where you can have your own sails by uploading your own png specifically named at specific dimensions and weight via a dedicated NPC for a fee. But it would definitely need pre-approval. ( r.i.p. archeage )
  12. It might happen if NA is already running in the backround for some reason. Might need to kill the NA proc via the task manager sometimes. No need to restart steam itself nor your OS.
  13. Strange combination of flag and name. Let's pool our ressources together.
  14. Yep, he's rising from the dead to check on what's going on with that piece of land named after him.

  16. Happy Birthday, you are the oldest you've ever been and the youngest you'll ever be. May the force be with you.
  17. (Cavalry) broadsword duel between davies and lincoln, to decide the outcome of the war. I can imagine that. I can also imagine lincoln as a luchador. Thanks for making me picture this.

  19. I fully agree with Sir Texas Sir. There is always a knowledge of the game; an experience, than cannot be replicated by an AI, which is why AI in games is usually cheating in some way or another. It's the only way to ensure that players don't crush it too easely.. Don't nerf, learn the ropes. In every game.
  20. Alpha issues nothwistanding, welcome aboard. The game is still in development and there is progress at every patch. in the meantime, If you have any questions ask in chat. And a clan will give you answers to the questions you didn't ask. I haven't messed up at start but i had no idea of the existence of some stuff like labor hours nor outposts.
  21. Actually the first turn will definitely take you several hours at the very least, as you need to set up a lot of things, and then maybe 30 minutes per turn for a bit as there is a lot of action everywhere, however after that the turns are relatively fast, say 15 minutes most of the time, as you have already set up everything. There is also a lot of automation that is easy to miss, like naval convoys or air patrols, and units can march from A to B on their own over several turns, no need to move them every single turn. It also helps to organize large naval convoys instead of many small ones. It is also a good idea to use a checklist to quickly go throught things ( new units-done, logistics-done, intel reports-done etc) instead of looking everywhere at every detail including those that don't need checking at the time. Note also that japan has less territory to manage than the allies. Also after a few turns you have a good hang of what is going on so you know what to look at and where. From my experience and a couple other people, a single year is enough to finish the game.

  23. Command Ops and Histwar are amazing games, happy to see others play them. But if you are into monster wargames then nothing beats war in the pacific admiral edition. total war can only be bland compared to those masterpieces, but it has graphics, base building, and different thematics including samurais and warhammer. Ultimate general is a very different beast in a very different style. Apples and oranges. It has its own special unique place, not counting civil war generals 2. if you like total war fall of the samurai, do check out the tv serie yae no sakura Interestingly enough, rifles from the american civil war ended up being sold in japan.
